With New York Fashion Week over and done, we get to see what designers latched onto which wavelengths, sending down similar looks for us to love. Whether it’s an outlined slimming technique, laser technology treated leather, or the red wine that everyone in fashion’s been drinking, there are some trends that have permeated the runways. We’ve gathered 10 trends that have turned our heads from the indie runways up to the big guys’ catwalks. See what you may be wearing in 6 months time, or sooner.

See the future ahead.

Pulling some tricks from Stella McCartney this outlining trick slims and stuns all at once. it tricks the eye into giving the body perfect curves.

Color blocking has been vertically integrated. Split the scene two-faced for a cool contrast.

The hues run deep in Fall 2012, but none deeper than burgundy. Red wine flooded nearly every runway this week, and left us delightfully buzzed.

Perhaps inspired by the multitude of collar necklaces that have surfaced since Spring, collars are now stepping into the light, taking on their own colors separate from the rest of the garment. And it pops in a way that you won't have to lift it up.

Fanny who? These waist bags are all grown up, and some have even doubled. Hands and shoulders-free has become so chic.

The boob tube turned fuzzy as black and white meshed like a snowy television. The signal may not be coming in clear, but the trend certainly is.

Designers are pointing out your sexiest curves: hips, boobs, shoulders. On point.

Jackets hems hit the floor, billowing out behind as you take a step. The look is regal, the effect is long.

Because we live in the future (and Christopher Kane flourished with it last season), laser cut leather lace is cutting out everywhere.

Whether we're getting our athletics on, or yearning for old "glory days," this trickle up trends has saturated the runway and blown up street style. They. Were. Everywhere.

I would’ve thought that Marc was already on the board, if not president Diane von Furstenbrerg‘s girl Friday, but mazel to the kids, who were nominated by the board of directors way back in July.
You might have seen my packing Czech list for this spa journey I’m on through the Czech Republic. I neglected to include that I brought just one swimsuit with me – a neon striped bottom and reversible bandeau top. Such an efficient packer, thought I. What I didn’t realize was how few massages I’d be getting, and how many bath houses I’d be swimming in. The Czech spa triangle is famous for is natural mineral water springs – for drinking and bathing – that hold cures for many illnesses and make your skin look sensational. Thus far I’ve swum in the mineral caves of the Castle Bath Spa in Karlovy Vary, the public family mineral pool at the Aquaforum in Frantiskovy Lazne (where I also got a hot stone massage from the hot son of the hot DILF spa owner – more on that later), and the royal roman bath house at the Maria Spa in Marianske Lazne (from which I’m currently writing). With that – I wish I could have brought these 12 Spring 2012 swimsuits with me. Czech It Out.

There’s a definite consensus around the FashionIndie office regarding this season at the tents: lackluster. Gone was the excitement and the thrill of the new and in its stead stood a circus comprised of the old guard impatiently appraising the crop of would-be streetstyle stars and the army of bloggers hanging about as they waded through the muck of the nameless and the irrelevant to find a collection onto which to pin their ever-dwindling hopes . Still, there were a few shows that set the five barely-beating hearts of FashionIndie racing and had our backs aching to be clothed in their bright and bold designs.

Fashion Week is the time of year when we can get inside the heads of all the creative types that dominate New York City. We are taking this opportunity to ask a question a day to all the industry pros we meet for a quick fashion fix. Today’s question: What was your first fashion moment?

Aila Wang, Photo via The Cut

“When I was 15 and first got scouted to be a model, I didn’t know anything about fashion. I started paying attention to fashion by collecting magazines and tearing out pictures of models and putting them on my walls.” – Jessica Stam

“When I walked in the Marc Jacobs show in 2006.” – Chanel Iman

“I sneaked into the Valentino show when I was 17.” – Ronen Jehezkel, Parke & Ronen

“I’m 100 years old now, but when I graduated, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. It was the early 60s, and I wasn’t fitting in with the Mad Men style of the times. But then I went to London where things we’re really beginning and fit in with the movement there. I started designing and six months later had full pages in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar and thought ‘this is what I need to be doing.’ – Norma Kamali

“In about 1993 was the first fashion show I ever attended. It was in an old theater in Paris and it was so amazing, so exciting.” – Terry Richardson

“My first fashion event was probably when I was 10 and at the YMCA. It was a ‘fashion show’ but really it was kids walking on the stage waving to their parents.” – Erin Wasson

“My first fashion event was probably in 2005. I was in New York and I couldn’t tell you the name of the designer, but there were a lot of very pretty women there.” – Amare Stoudemire, NY Knicks

“Two years ago at SoHo House in New York, a friend of mine was putting on these weekly fashion shows for different designers. There were models, synchronized swimmers, acrobats – the works. It was really cool and we went every week that summer.”- Carrie Preston, True Blood

“I went to Central Saint Martins and the first fashion show I ever went to was the graduate end-of -year show. Antonio Berardi was graduating that year, and I remember how great that show was. It can be a very emotive, incredible experience – it sort of speaks to something in your soul. It reinforced to me that this is right, that I loved what I was doing”. – Annabel Tollman

Norma Kamali and Nicola Formichetti are among a few select designers utilizing 3-D technology this New York Fashion Week.

A 3-D avatar of Zombie Boy

“Video is more descriptive, more entertaining and, really, the most detailed way to present a collection,” said Kamali, who will be showing her spring 2012 collection via a 3-D short film on September 14th. In addition to the film, Kamali created a 3-D lookbook that can be viewed in different formats — including the good ole-fashioned red-and-blue cardboard glasses — at normakamali3d.com starting September 15th.

Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti on the other hand worked with fantasy-gaming company, CCP Games, to create a video featuring an avatar of his muse, Zombie Boy aka Rick Genest. The video that will be shown on a seven-foot screen at Formichetti’s BOFFO pop-up store opening September 8th at 57 Walker St. Viewers will also be able to manipulate the angle and speed of the video using an iPad docked at a nearby podium.

In the video, Zombie Boy wears a leather jacket designed specifically for the 3-D environment and while Formichetti concedes that they could “make that into a product,” he’s “excited for the idea that it doesn’t actually exist in the physical world. It’s not about a product or a T-shirt. It’s about a new idea.”

And I’m excited for this 3-D interactive video, mostly because I’m a nerd at heart; though I will say, real Zombie Boy is a lot cuter — and, funny enough, less creepy — than avatar Zombie Boy. [NYT]

According to Jezebel, who bravely and and altruistically estimated each year’s value of Oprah’s Favorite Things (OFT) — that bygone seasonal orgasm of mass consumerism and mass hysteria — Oprah dropped about $23.8 million on making her studio audience cream their relaxed fit khakis since 2002. But in Oprah money, that’s equivalent to a trip to the grocery store and a mani-pedi with Gayle.

2002 – The first OFT was a subtle affair. Clocking in at $730,500, highlights included key lime pie and a J. Lo velour sweatsuit. You gotta start somewhere.

2003 – O then proceeded to crack the million dollar mark, $1,527,750. This is when she started throwing $600 watches and $400 Blackberries at people.

2004 – Shit went down. $4,299,600. We’re talking flat screen TVs ($2,299), spa trips ($850), $11,000 bedding and a $2000 laptop. Suffice to say, there were no J. Lo sweatsuits.

2005 – A little more conservative. $2,211,600. We got a little Ralph Lauren, a little Burberry, an Apple iPod and the big ticket item, a $2400 diamond watch.

2006 – This year’s studio audience must have been PISSED. Facing criticism that she had been basically feeding into American’s capitalist greed, Oprah gave her studio audience camcorders and a $1000 credit card to perform (and record) a good deed. Cost = $390,000.

2007 - So that happened, a lesson was learned by no one and then Oprah dropped $2,364,000 on some hideous footwear ($120), the super awesome Planet Earth DVD box set and a $3800 refrigerator. I wonder if that included shipping and handling?

2008 - Remember the recession? Yeah, me neither, but Oprah did and so she shafted her audience again with an installment of “Thrifty Favorite Things.” An H&M swimsuit ($15), a Norma Kamali suit ($350) and something known as “Fit Flops” ($50) broke the bank at $210,600.

2009 – Oprah didn’t even bother this year. There was no OFT, no one checking under their seats for anything, no one jumping up and down in an embarrassing fit of ecstasy. The end was nigh.

2010 – Lulled into a false sense of security, Oprah struck with what would be her Biggest and Last Favorite Things Ever. A bittersweet moment, no doubt, but one still considerably sweet at a cost of $12,075,000. Diamonds! Cashmere! $700 cruises! $3600 3D televisions! $500 iPads! And the grand daddy of all prizes, a $22,000 Volkswagen Beetle! Crying, jumping, hyperventilating, heart palpitations, etc. followed.

And that’s all she wrote. To those lucky couple hundred of people who got to bask in the glory of Oprah as she screamed in your face about gifts you could otherwise never afford, I salute you. To the less fortunate souls from 2006, 2008 and 2009, at least you got to bask in the glory of Oprah yelling in your face about something.

That’s more than many of us will ever be able to say. [Jezebel]

The May 2009 issue also cites her in the list of contributors, thereby giving models just a little more credit.

L.A. based designer John Ward has revived the idea of luxe sportswear with his new line, Maggie Ward. Taking a fresh, updated approach to modern basics, his Fall 2009 collection features elegant body-hugging leggings, tanks, thin knit sweaters and bodysuits that you probably wouldn’t want to actually do any real physical activity in. Using non-traditional materials such as artesian Japanese fabrics and washable stretch leather and velvet, these pieces only look casual yet are nonetheless comfortable. In addition to opulent details, Ward’s penchant for architecture is evident throughout the collection with the use of geometric patterns and semi-structural designs. From partying to shopping to just plain chillin’, Ward’s blend of simplicity and luxury makes this label a truly transitional staple.

Shocking as it might seem, there are still plenty of people who would rather try on clothes before purchasing it. They stray from the click and ship options and choose to head to the stores before they drop their hard earned cash. Well, Norma Kamali has an option you can’t refuse. Try-Before-You-Buy!!!

Basically, NormaKamali.com will send you items to try on at home. You have 48 hours to check out the item and if you don’t like it, ship it back. This is the greatest thing to happen to the web since one-click checkout. You get to try on your item at home, check it out with all your goodies, and change your mind if it doesn’t work.

Expect more brands to jump on the bandwagon as this becomes a standard of online shopping.

Thanks Fashionista for pointing it out.
