Number (N)ine to close
The news has been doing the rounds over the weekend, but we felt we should start the week with this news for posterity. Number (N)ine’s recently displayed AW09 collection – which was called ‘a closed feeling’ – will be their last. Hint Magazine received a letter from the company stating that “When you’re finished changing, you’re finished.” Whether founding member Takahiro Miyashita will start up another company remains to be seen, but this seems to be one designer closure that has nothing to do with the economy.
It stinks that so many designers are calling it quits, most likely because of the craptastic economy. Though I’m not exceptionally fond of or familiar with Miyashita’s work, I’m still wondering how many more of these we’ll see before 2009 is over.

You Weren’t Invited. Neither Were We.
Bill. Bill. Bill. Postcard from grandma. Bill. Parking Ticket. Bill. Bill. Invitation to Dior Homme Fall 2009. Aside from the bills and the parking ticket (sorry Rebecca), this would be the ideal contents of any mailbox. The perfect clothes, accessories, hair, makeup, lights, sound and runway are all necessary for a killer show. But if you don’t send guest innovative invitations, you’re audience is going to be empty! These are just some of the nifty invitations to this years F/W 2009 men’s fashion shows!

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Number (N)ine Fall 2009 Collection

Now I’m normally not a fan of the color brown, but when a designer manages to make it look amazing and present it well like Number (N)ine did for their Fall 2009 Collection, you can’t help but tip your hat in approval. The collection featured a ton of cropped pants, uniquely decorated dress shirts, and shin high boots for everyone. Judging by the images it seems as though the show was far from conventional in style, and the full facial coverings really added an awesome element to the show.

At the Number (N)ine show in Paris yesterday, designer Takahiro Miyashita paid homage to Kurt Cobain with a collection that was full-on grunge. Called My Own Private Portland, Miyashita gave us layers of mismatched flannels, thrift store sweaters, Elmer Fudd hats, plaid shirts, shabby knits, busted shoes, and even moccasins that took us waaay back.
