Not only did the show begin with a montage of “Kardashian-Humphries Divorce” clips and headlines, it opened up with an ominous “8 months earlier” stamp across the screen, securing the fact that this entire season is going to be a documentation on the downfall of the $18 million bride.  But have no fear, its not all Return to Depression Mountain here, because of the show’s saving grace: Baby Mason (aka the happiest baby in the world).

He’s adorably well dressed, knows how to dip his french bread in olive oil, and does classy toddler appropriate things like screaming hello to New York off his Gansevoort Park penthouse balcony, classic.  We won’t waste your time with any analysis on Kim and Kourtney Take New York #BMMTS because seriously, who cares,  but we will give you a list of the Top Ten Post Kardashian Show Highlights: 

1. Kourtney means business this season, with a higher and tighter ballerina bun than ever.

2. The foursome move into the penthouse of the Gansevoort Park Hotel, a sprawling 3 bedroom duplex that quickly turns out to be way too small.

3. Within a couple of days of living together, Kris grumbles about how star of the show, Baby Mason is just too much to deal with. He actually yells. At a baby. Hump, you’re dead to me.

4. Scott and Kris shave each other’s armpits…WTF?

5. TRIPLE THREAT: Kourtney surprises Kim at their spa day with…an enema! Kourtney later “leaks” (it is exactly what you think) onto Kim & Kris’s bed!  You also hear the ladies fart. That’s right. f-a-r-t, FART. Who says these girls aren’t still known for their asses?

6. Avril Levigne‘s Abbey Dawn fashion show was featured in one scene, showing at least one press outlet that enjoyed plugged her collection.

7. Kris then kicks off his first tv display of a$$hole immaturity by calling the nude yogi (yes, there’s nude yoga in this episode) “some rasta dude”, asking him “if it was cold in here”, calling him “disgusting”, then outwardly laughing in his face.  This was of course followed by a public argument with Kim and ends with Kris leaving (insert completely unshocked face here).

8. You get to see the inside of Dash and not only does it look like people are working, it is one of the rare scenes where the sisters seem genuinely happy.

9. By the end of the episode Scott and Kris have both moved out. Season foreshadowing dun dun dunn…

10. We are left with a teaser reel of Kim breaking down in tears about her failing marriage and low self esteem, making us disregard any negative feeling portrayed in this entire article.  Can’t wait til next week!

Now I’ve been to my fair share of uppity Manhattan fundraisers and this is by far the most fun event of the benefit season.  The key?  It is run by an amazing group of 25 young people who are all uber passionate about helping this cause.  The event itself is the brainchild of friends that wanted to put their social lives to good use, and in two short years they have managed to pull in over $200,000 in proceeds for the Make A Wish Foundation. What made this different from any other charity event?  This group has concocted the perfect recipe for a killer bash:

1. Endless list of spirits sponsors & phenomenal food 

Perrier Jouet champagne, Patron tequila, Ultimat vodka, Pryat Rum, Corona & Sam Adams beer, Evian water, combined with a ridiculous amount of yummy Lavo appetizers put everyone in the best spirit to party and more importantly, shell out more cash for the #2 most important thing:

2. Killer prizes for an at-event raffle drawing and silent auction:

Partygoers were able to bid on a plethora of high-end auction items including airfare from Virgin Atlantic, a Ferrari driving experience from Gotham Dream Cars, gym membership to Equinox, boxing tickets from HBO Sports, premium seats to the New York Yankees and Giants, a golf outing at Winged Foot Country Club, designer purses, unbelieveable spa packages, getaway packages, autographed memorabilia, hotel stays, restaurant gift cards and more.  Rarely do you find such an array of can’t-otherwise-get prizes, especially ones that will surely impress any sort of date you brought with you.  This brings us to our third key element in throwing a successful shindig:

The wedding day is finally here and we’ve got even more details about the Kim Kardahsian Kris Humphries uber lavish wedding.  In addition to our earlier list, here are the latest bits of gossip about the famous nuptuals:

1. The jaw dropping invitation is above, which includes requests for all guests to wear black and white.  The invite was delivered in its own box which was decorated by hundreds of jet black hematite crystals

2. $66,000 worth of wedding gifts have been purchased from her registry by the couple’s wealthy guests.  Still up for grabs are the $305 per plate set of Hermes dishes, a $7,000 Baccarat vase, an $840 Havana ashtray, and $205 KT ice tongs.

3. The wedding party is all shacked up at the Four Seasons Hotel, and they’ve caused so much ruckus there with the cameras and staff that another bride to be that was actually having her wedding there wasn’t even allowed to attend her own party due to security blocks for the celebrity entourage.  She was said to dash to her room in tears over the Kardashians taking away attention on her special day.

4. Kim’s wedding will actually be held at the nearby Montecito Sotto Il Monte Estate 

5. Post ceremony, the couple will be jetting back to their new home at the Gansevoort Park Hotel in New York City.

6. The wedding is set for 6pm west coast time this evening, and in attendance will be celebrity guests including Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Nicole Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Jennifer Lopez, Venus and Serena Williams, La La Anthony,  and the New Jersey Nets basketball team.

Jimmy Choo’s third NYC outpost opened this morning in the West Village between Zadig + Voltaire and Marc by Marc Jacobs.   Bedecked with chandeliers, mirrored furniture, and overstuffed seating, the designer shoe brand’s founder Tamara Mellon told Women’s Wear Daily that the shop “evokes the feeling of a Forties boudoir“.  The boutique carries the full range of Choos for women, as well as bags, leather goods, sunglasses, and the Choo 24:7 line, giving downtown fashionistas another place to exercise their credit cards.

My buddy DJ NVM, the resident DJ over at the Sunday pool parties at the Gansevoort Park Avenue, has been telling me about his party for a while now… but after a bit of convincing by the guest DJs Steve Aoki & Marshall Barnes did I finally take a trip over there (reason being I’m usually way too exhausted after a weekend of Hamptons raging to move on a Sunday).

Let me tell you, this is no ordinary pool party. The chicks are HOT. The guys even HOTTER. And when you get that many HOT people together and feed them alcohol for hours under the summer sun, you’re going to get one amazing PRETTY & PLASTERED gallery…

You can find it on the roof of these fancy shmancy clubs and hotels:

The Soho House – If you can find a dear friend (or at least a one night stand) in someone with a membership to this über exclusive British import, you can access their famed rooftop pool. Rub elbows with celebrities, or at the very least, their publicists.

Le Bain – On the roof of The Standard lies a bed of high tech synthetic grass, on which you’ll find giant plushy waterbed poofs and beautiful people.

Le Parker Meredien – For $50 a day you can use this just-south-of-the-park rooftop pool and all of the hotel’s amenities. A touch pricey, yes, but free of screaming children and pisswater.

The Gansevoort & The Gansevoort Park – Uptown or down, get free entrance and steep drinks. Lovely views, but beware – the BnT crowd has discovered (and invaded) this gem. ***UPDATE*** They don’t let the questionable crowd in on Sundays. Only beautiful people with slippery morals.

Park your beach bum at any of these NYC Parks, Piers and other Public Places:

Central Park – Duh. But check out these key layout spots: Sheep Meadow or The Great Lawn. Or find a giant slab of rock face and bunker down, they make surprisingly comfortable beds.

Clinton Cove - This stretch of park at Pier 95 at 55th st on the West side. Tan with a water’s view and real grass beneath you.

Christopher Street Pier – River view tanning in the West Village, but the pier is made of wood, so perhaps bring a beach chair for prime comfort.

Bryant Park - Midtown crash tan in the middle of work. Grab lunch at Hale and Hearty or Le Pain Quotidien and bake in the sun.

Battery Park - Find the sun in the Financial District and a view of Lady Liberty.

High Line – This train track turned eco-walkway has parts lined with lounge chairs and stunning water views.

The fragrance itself, described as “the ultimate connoisseur’s scent”, was a concoction of pepper, grapefruit, lavender, vanilla, and patchouli (aka light, cool, and a little intimidating).  Former NY Times Scent Editor Chandler Burr walked us through each individual scent in a fun and compelling sniff class that broke it all down.

Who is this man exactly?  GQ Style Correspondent Brett Fahlgren told us that the character behind the scent was “a contemporary charmer, with a spirit of masculinity– a man who is courteous, refined, and cultivated” while the designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana remarked “he is worldly, successful, impeccable, but also boasts something else such as an innate elegance that distinguishes him from the rest”.

More exciting news at the event was the launch of Dolce & Gabbana’s new iPhone app, “Rules for the Modern Gentlman” which was written by Dylan Jones, editor of GQ UK.  The app was designed to cover tips on etiquette (like asking a girl on a date properly), style & grooming (like how to match your patterns), and quick solutions for gentlemanly predicaments (sort of like the how to eat a pork loin off a rib without disturbing the passed appetizers peace).  Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana told us, “The application is a perfect reflection of the scenarios that the Dolce&Gabbana man may find himself encountering; as a modern gentleman he can approach each situation with a sense of poise and confidence that distinguishes him from the rest.”

When looking for the campaign’s face, naturally, the brand turned to Hollywood ladies man: Matthew McConaughey.  The campaign video showed off McConaughey, the one gentleman himself, the morning after an epic celebration (very a la How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days). Still tuxedo clad, he strolls through the party ballroom doing exactly what we would all do after a grand night at a ball, staring into a beach sunset.  How dapper. We recommend the scent for the young and elegant set, the gentlemen of our generation.

1. How did the idea strike you to start Collegefashionista?

It started as a personal blog that I was using to enhance my resume and establish my voice in the industry then turned into an actual company and full-time job.

2. What does your day as the creative director/ founder of Collegefashionista.com consist of?

A great part of my job is that there is no typical day as an entrepreneur! One day I will be working with our social media team on a new Facebook app and the next day I will be around town shooting a video series with influential leaders in the industry. It truly changes day-to-day and that’s what leaves my job extremely thrilling. One thing that is consistent on a regular basis is connecting with my Style Guru team and making sure all 200 plus members are on the right page. I have a very intimate relationship with my writers and they are always my top priority each day. And, of course, there is also loads of editing, writing features, photographing subjects for my column, connecting with our readers through Twitter/Facebook/Tumblr and meetings with brands and other partners thrown in there as well. CollegeFashionista is a 24/7 job and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

3. What is your most favorite part about being the Editor of such a well known street style site?

The impact I have on my Style Gurus is the most rewarding and my favorite part of my job as editor. I love interacting with my team and seeing the effect my Web site has on them. They’re enthusiasm and dedication to the site is invigorating.

4. Did you always want to work in fashion?

While I always knew I wanted to work in fashion, I was never quite sure what aspect of the industry I necessarily gravitated to. CollegeFashionista has been that niche I had been looking for.  It combines so many aspects of the fashion industry, which, for me, makes it the perfect, perfect job. You can’t plan what you think you will do because chances are that isn’t where you will end up!

5. What was your first job in the fashion industry?

My first internship was for a PR firm in London during my Junior year in college. I have never worked full-time for anyone other then myself since I started CollegeFashionista right after I graduated in 2009. Pretty luck girl

6. What makes a good intern?

Someone who is driven, self-motivated and can figure things out for themselves. I know as an intern how stressed out my supervisors were. They needed me as the intern to create my own projects and didn’t have time to hold my hand. A successful intern is one who can navigate the office and figure out what needs to be done without being asked.

7. What is the best advice you can give to an aspiring fashion editor?

Be nice. I can’t begin to tell you how often that is overlooked and how far that will get you.  There is very real stereotype that people in the fashion industry have a hard edge. But I firmly believe it’s those who are kind that rise to the top. We all need other to succeed. Don’t forget that!

Equally important is networking. Develop relationships with people in the fashion industry, people in other industries and everyone you meet in general. You never know who that person may know that could help you get your big break.

8. What is your favorite fashion statement piece?

A white silk blouse. I think I own 10 plus white silk blouses and never get sick of them. They are my go-to piece. My sister calls the look my uniform.

9. Who do you consider your fashion Muse to be?

Iris Apfel- she’s such a cool, elegant lady. And the Olsens. I mean, you can’t get much better than that.

10. What are some of the brands that you have worked with

Juicy Couture, Bop, Ray-Ban are a few.

11. Who are your top 3 favorite designers?

Alexander Wang, Jenni Kayne, The Row.
12. What is your perfect summer outfit?

A sheer maxi skirt, loose white T-shirt, strappy sandals, my go-to Dries Van Noten sunnies, and a Chanel bag.
13. What blogs do you read the most?

Ah there are so many!! I always read TheCoveteur, WhoWhatWear, JakandJil, The Selby and, of course, CollegeFashionista. I usually read loads more but those on a regular basis.

14. Who are your favorite “tweeps” to follow on twitter?

@DKNY and @OscarPRGirl both crack me up and I love following our Style Guru team and seeing what they are up to!

15. Where do you see Collegefashionista 5 years from now?

CollegeFashionista has gone from a personal blog to a website and now a brand. Out of all the aspects of CollegeFashionista my favorite part is empowering young women and helping them shape their careers, which a lot have through writing for the website. I want to continue to hone in on this mentorship type relationship and really develop that aspect out.  I hope CollegeFashionista can continue to be that outlet for more and more young adults with a passion for writing and fashion.

Look Four: Universal Cutout

The Peekaboo Dress: Timo Weiland, $320

This look began with this thick, smooth stretch dress that toys with the body and the eye. It checks at the bust at the fiber level, essentially building in the bra. And the strip in the middle is sheered black. Timo and design partner Alan Eckstein always make it interesting and know how to get ahead young.

The Universally Painted Dress: A. Turen

Tight, long sleeve and cut classily short, the under layer is actually a dress. It’s hand painted by Ashley Turen to me looks like the far reaches of space.

The Bitchin’ Jacket: A. Turen, $850

Painted by hand and studded at the shoulders, this bomber is bitchin’. That might be the only adjective for this jacket. I felt lie a rock star in it.

The Mesh Ring: Laura B Collection Particuliére, $154

I chose this ring because its multi-tonal woven metal meshed with that of the hand painted effect. It has metal beads tied into it as it sits thick on the hand. I told you about Laura Bortolami’s high fashion history, but now you can find her luscious chain mail in boutiques across the globe.

The Painted Shorts: A. Turen, $168

The look began with the jean shorts, hand painted by Ashley Turen. Tattered to exposed-pocket summertime delight, these completely original mid-waisted metallic daisy dukes spoke to me.

The Nude Leather Tank: Maggie Ward, $282

I chose this top for its stability and flounce; the cropped A-line is perfect with a short and tight high waist. Plus, the leather is like cream. Maggie Ward was founded by Three Dots co-founder John Ward with the vision to make comfortable clothing that doesn’t appear comfortable. Tricky, tricky, and totally working.

The Softest Cropped Cardi: KristenseN du Nord, $239

This piece immediately warranted a home in the Boutique Critique. The combination of fabrics so delicate on a shape that embraces the moment makes for a must-have. Since the brand’s inception in 1996, they have worked exclusively with carefully selected Italian craftsmen and the finest materials. They use a method they call “wash-wash” to ensure zero shrinkage.

The Turban-Tied Scarf: Juma, $176

Amidst the wall of brilliantly patterned scarves, this one jumped out in its regality. With the image of a peacock surrounded by its painterly feathers, it just begged to be wrapped around my head until it became a fabric beehive. Brother and sister duo Alia and Jamil Juma forged these scarves and the rest of their collections from the influence of travel and art.

The Memories Necklace: Venessa Arizaga, $325

Off this chain hangs little bits of reminders of the trinkets you’ve encountered throughout your life and childhood. Each piece of jewelry is different; these pieces are gathered by Vanessa Arizaga through her copious travels. Before she took the dive into her own jewelry business, she was deep in the design world working under Tuleh, Carolina Herrera and Zac Posen. This is jewelry with a sense of humor and a background of elegance.

The Sneaks: Ash, $130

Properly faded and bleached, this pair makes one chill summer sneaker. The design pair Leonello Calvani and Patrick Ithier share a history in French luxury and create fine shoes that hit abreast of the trend – they strive to cater to those who seek out fashion in the most thrilling cities in the world.

The Chain Mail Pouch: Laura B Collection Particulière, $760

Made of metal mesh that moves like water, this pouch slouches so elegantly at the side. It has an alternative handle to carry on the wrist as well. Versatile and a little bit see through, I’m rather in love. This bag came to Laura Bortolami in a dream, whilst sleeping in Morocco; a glimmer on mesh. And so she did. Before she did any of this, she worked in her native city of Rome for Armani, Gianni Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and more until she dedicated herself fully to her jewelry venture in 1999.

The denim collection boasts every type of jean — skinny, boyfriend, drop crotch, straight leg — each treated with a burst of cosmetics  for a signature spin.  Whether it be a splash of purple eyeshadow on the butt or bursts of pink blusher throughout the thighs, the collection brought a bright, uplifting feeling into your Spring denim selection.

Here’s the amazing stylist Dani Stahl posing with the new collection — she was killing it in a pair of super skinny stretch teal jeans, heels, and a cute leather jacket.

Once you figured out what pair best suited you, Make Up Forever artists were ready to give you matching makeovers!  They were painting on bold lips and pops of eye color in magenta, teal, yellow, and blue, with their new liquid eyeliner.

The denim bar has fun spring colors including dusty blue, yellow, coral, teal, white, and railroad stripe. My personal favorite were the destroyed white skinny, which didn’t have much stretch but fit very true to size. A runner up were the super skinny stretch teal jeans, which were a powdery light color that once painted on your body, were surprisingly flattering.

While Harper’s Bazaar tackled the online counterfeit debacle at their recent Anti-Counterfeiting Summit, New York is getting all sorts of serious about the topic of fakes. New York City council member Margaret Chin is championing a bill that would criminalize the purchase of fake trademarked items. In layman’s terms: Buy a fake bag, go to jail.

“The bill targets those people who purchase goods that they know are counterfeit,” says Chin.

Fake bag street vendors line Canal Street and crawl through Soho and Chinatown, making it at once a destination and a trap for tourists, and are a serious nuisance to those who live there. They cost NYC over $1 billion in tax revenue and all for what? To make you look tacky, that’s what.

Counterfeit is Ugly

This past Tuesday, top editors, PR firms, designers, and guests of honor from the Mayors office gathered under one collective roof at the Harper’s Bazaar 7th annual Anti-Counterfeit Summit. While dining on delicacies like truffle risotto balls, a panel of experts spoke about the dangers and harms of counterfeit goods.  Frank Abagnale, one of the world’s most respected authorities on the subject (seeing that he lived the part which was interpreted in the hit book, movie, and now Broadway show Catch Me If You Can), Susan Engel, CE of Portero Luxury, an internet retailer of luxury goods, and Thomas Onda the chief of intellectual property at Levi’s were all on the panel to educate us on how the counterfeit industry funds terrorism, child labor malpractice, and fuels the drug industry.  Judging by the surprised and horrified looks on everyone’s faces, counterfeit goods seem to be a battle that can mostly be won through mere awareness and education.

What can you do? Instead of buying fake, get a bag that no one has ever seen. Find one in a local store, go vintage, go to the biggies like Urban Outfitters or Zara, or save up for the real deal!

Now you’ve been warned: Do not pass go, do not collect a Gucci bag for 30 dollars. Chances are, you’ll go directly to jail.

Look Four: AvaMaria in Wonderland

The Oil Slicker Saddle Heels: Repetto, $250

It started with the Repetto; this time, oil slicked. In the most beautiful way, it looks like a dirty puddle. It was love at first glance. Repetto is famous for ballet shoes, and construct gorgeous others for we non-professional-dancing folk.

The Mini Checker Shirtdress: Cacharel, $178

Ah the shirtdress, blue and gold checked, enhances the hidden hues of the Repettos. So dainty on its own, so innocent, yet vibrant as well. Cacharel took off in the 1960s with its iconic shirtdresses designed by Jean Bousquet. Following in the traditional footprints, they are still prevalent today.

The Kitty Silk Top: Paul & Joe Sister, $228

A shirtdress is a shirtdress, and I couldn’t wear just a shirtdress. I was jazzed to find this complementing silk top that slid underneath the open top so smoothly. The blues dance together and the checks on cats patterns don’t protest too much. Famed French menswear designer Sophie Albou started Paul & Joe in 1995 and branched into les femmes in 2006 with the little Sister.

The Waving Belt: Linea Pelle, $188

The gingham and the shirt came alive together, but the look was still lacking something. Linea Pelle belt corsetry filled that void. With the ends fastened at the back, the shaping quality of waving leather strips brought more shape to the silhouette.

The Flowering Rings: Marie-Lise Lachapelle, gold-plated leaf, $350, silver orchid $375

The silver and golden leafy rings flourished on one hand, enhancing the dual tonal quality of the entire look. Marie-Lise Lachapelle constructs these structures by making molds from actual orchids and leaves. That’s why the metal has so much wildlife in it.

Look 1: See-Through Señorita

The Swishy Jumpsuit: Zimmerman, $360

Look One began with a washed silk jumpsuit. With a solid boned bodice, the heart shaped neckline hugs sturdily on the ribs. This allows the swishy washed silk to sway to the billowing harem whilst staying put on top. The pockets are deep and the ankles are stretchy; Australian duo Zimmerman has paid attention to the details.

The Recycled Net Top: Camilla Norrback, $188

This next piece came into play because of its netted quality that sees clear through to the jumpsuit. As playful as it is practical in the practice of layering, this shirt also happens to very conscious of the world around it. Swedish designer Camilla Norrback can claim eco-friendliness since 2002, and has made this top out of 100% recycled polyester.

The Orchid Statement: Marie-lise Lachapelle $375

Pinned to my hair is an orchid dipped in gold, the flower immortalized as jewelry, preserving its natural beauty. This piece originally sat as a necklace in the display, but with a thick, long curved bobby pin, it became a hairpiece rather simply. With an entrepreneurial sculptor father and high fashion model artist mother, Montreal native Marie-Lise Lachapelle captured the attention of her own celebrity clients with her stunningly delicate jewelry. She made the jump from styling to full time jewelry making in 2005.

The Mary Janes: Pedro Garcia, $180

Just about the only thing that could compliment the flower in my hair is Mary Jane. And this pair by Pedro Garcia elevates the look with a touch of demure formality. Hailing from the south of Spain, the brand breathes the Mediterranean Sea.

The Foxy Bellbottoms: Court, $117

This look started with the house-made jeans. Except for my super wide-legs, I’ve been rocking skinnies for the better part of a decade. Only now am I remembering the joy of a good flare, and it’s bringing me back to a day after Studio 54 brunch. Though these are built differently than the bells of our past, they seem to expand with less resistance.

The Burnout Shirt: Mink Pink, $60

Cropped to just below the waist and pre-worn-in, this tee wants you to just hang out in it. It’s no muss, just a well proportioned texturized t-shirt.

The Chill Out Tunic: Seneca Rising, $118 (originally $165)

Designer Andi Ballard’s aesthetic stems from her personal collection of thrift store finds and older bro’s hand-me-downs, all of which equal a soft layerable compilation of visceral favorites. Made from a blend of Tencel and Rayon, the hand feels well worn like a washed silk. It looks real relaxed here, but let down the sleeves and button it up for a suave effect.

The Striped Wedges: 80/20, $118

Multicolored stripes of varying widths on a canvas and cork wedge seem born to live beneath bellbottoms. The bit that peeks out the hem shouts Sun, Sun, Sun like Jakki in a disco fever.

The Leather Hair Corset: Court, $48

You’ve been seeing this hair tie by store owner Nicole Tondre all week. The way it brings my hair off to the side gives me those Native American vibes, like I could weave a tribal tapestry on a hand loom. Well, maybe if I make that tapestry a reality, and the traditional leather tie will keep my hair out of my face while weaving. AKA I’m going back and buying this. Now.

Part leather, part stretch, this jacket doesn’t just wear, it gives a hug. Plus with its super spacious pockets, there’s room to tote it all. The squared lapel falls in such a way that it lends itself to options.

Short in the front, long in the back, the weight and shape of this top falls lightly on the body. This brand from Australia has fine quality goods.

The Striped Wedges: 80/20, $118

Cork wedges get even further summerized with relaxed colored stripes on canvas. The inclination of the heel isn’t so high, but they’re tall enough to give a nice boost. Designer Ce Ce Chin draws her brainchild from the surf (she’s learning the art of surfing out on Far Rockaway) and Jeff Spicoli’s Mexican baja (Fast Times, man). These shoes yell city hippie dippy and I like it.

The One Ear Fringe: Dust & Bones, $68

Whoa, this is revolutionary. It’s an earring –  just one. Long and fringed leather bundled onto a hook makes for an exotic look. The new visionary independent jewelry maker is Janell Jet.  She makes it in several colors, but I was partial to the pale green. I paired it with the ivory leather hair corset on the other side – I like the mismatched balance.

The Leather Hair Corset: Court, $48

One of the owners of Court, Nicole Tondre, is responsible for putting these tie up leather binding hair pieces into our known market. They stem from Native American origins as the traditional way to tie hair. The leather wraps around the hair and it ties up like the top of a boot with a tightening bead at the end.  As Nicole grew up around this influence, she’s always known about their existence. Though I don’t think any Native Americans had it in patent leather…

Look Two: Maximizing Singlet

The Cutout Maxi Dress: Stylestalker, $178

This head-to-toe stunner comes from the land down under by the self-confessed, style obsessed twosome Sue-Ann San and Rachel Zeilic. From the front, the side cutouts jut in the most universally flattering part of the torso – the ribs. The strips that line the decolletage add more effect to the skin peekaboo. The front is a trip, but the back of the dress finishes the puzzle, lines connected by exposed zipper. The python print is subdued in icy white and black.

The Side-Laced Wedge: Madison Harding, $185 (originally $265)

Repeat shoes? Guilty as charged. But, get mileage out of your suede boots while you still can, and rock them with a maxi. Come summer, you’ll want something strappier.

Look One: Shredded ‘n’ Leather

The Long  Tube Skirt: Mary Meyer, $94

California native cum NY transplant Mary Meyer fuses her talent for art into clothing that makes sense. Most notable for her geo-graphics and dyeing, she also has some revolutionary ideas about garment making. The construction of the skirt is what inspires me: she’s purposefully left the knit hemline unfinished so that the wearer may cut it to the desired length, no tailor required. The ground grazing-option takes effect when you place the waistline at any height. Named the AJM Skirt for Andrew J. Mukamal of Kell On Earth assistantship, Meyer was inspired by his grunge gone goth glam; long soft layers that counterpose plaid and leather.

The Shredded Top: Evil Twin, $89

“A physical copy of one’s self whom has altered morality” is the definition of this Australian brand’s namesake. I gather that this Evil Twin‘s twin shirt would not have holes, nor spaced fringe, nor a marble tie dye, all of which sneakily camouflage my exposed skin. With the skirt up high resting just below the bosom, I only have need for a bust long top. This holy top was born to move and shake, so if scandal isn’t your thing, throw a hot bandeau underneath as a bra, and let the hue show through. Lest you end up locked up for indecent exposure.

The Leather Jacket: Kill City, $458

With a slouch squared collar and super long sleeve lining, the relaxed rocker jacket is the ideal weight for Spring’s transition. Based in LA, Kill City is forged in that flexible weather to the sound of the rockin’ punk wail of Iggy Pop.

The Side-Laced Wedge: Madison Harding, $185 (originally $265)

Created intently for the downtown pavement pounder, these suede wedge booties ground the outfit’s transitional effect. Hilary Rosenman of Madison Ave., N.Y. and Barri Budin of Harding Dr., N.J. hauled their fashion knowledge to the East Village and began making astutely designed Madison Harding shoes.

The Hair Corset: Court, $48

Their very own hair corset comes from the Native American tradition of hair tying. They lace up like the top of a riding boot and encapsulate the pony tail. More details on this piece in the coming looks.

LOOK FIVE: Sustainable Pattern Mashup

The Parachute Hoodie: Christopher Raeburn, $462

Christopher Raeburn caught my attention with his collection in London for next fall. He takes discarded military material and repurposes them as slickers and other articles of clothing. Like this jacket for instance, that is made from 100% Parachute Nylon. I had been eyeing a different holy jacket down, as it was featured in its own front display, but I didn’t end up putting it with my chosen looks. That piece would suffice to live independently of an outfit; a true outer layer fit to engulf any look. This neon piece, however, seemed more the challenge: I was after some good pattern mixin’.

The Tank: Timo Weiland, $320

To suit my pattern mashing desires, Timo Weiland jumped to me once more. The sheer red-orange organic shapes that formulate on this tank completely complement the wild dotting of the jacket. But what’s on the back of the shirt, you ask? Why it’s the same tree landscape we saw on the dress in the previous look.

The Skirt: Lisa Marie Fernandez, $224

You might have sensed my affinity for neoprene at this point. Lisa Marie Fernandez shapes up a lovely little black skirt, beach- and bar-friendly.Though, I must admit, if there were to have been a brightly patterned bottom that meshed, I would have Man-Repellered it up.

The Necklace: Orly Genger, $395

This rope conglomeration collar hung from a single nail in the Orly Genger nook, and eyed me down the entire two hours I was in Début. Each mountain climbers rope speckled with neon, hand-tied knots wrapping concentrically around thick straight ones, clung together.

The Sandals: Love Is Mighty, $175

My vision for this outfit was sandals. Monisha Raja‘s vision for these sandals was environmental and social sustainability. Employing artisans from indigenous tribes across the globe, she uses traditional arts and crafts techniques and completely animal friendly materials to produce beaded sandals and bags. LOOK ONE: Swim Slung Salsa

The Skirt: Heikki Salonen, $585

Look closely. This is not just a dress. In fact, it’s no dress at all, unless you were to pull that skirt up above the bosom and belt it, á la yesteryear’s silhouette. This swingy, deep pocketed, ruffled and raw chiffon hemmed skirt is by Finish-born, London-shown designer Heikki Salonen. Though the skirt looked familiarly pleasing at the waist, I’ve slung it fresh at my very low hip, stretching the length to ankle height.

The Top: Lisa Marie Fernandez, $385

The top is also, in fact, no top at all. It is a bathing suit by Lisa Marie Fernandez. Made of neoprene. The shape recalls forties swimwear while the material calls more for a surf instructor and/or scuba gear. Wear it to swim, wear it to dinner. If you were Gaga, you’d wear it alone to both.

The Necklace: Orly Genger by Jaclyn Mayer, $325

The black and white speckled neon rope tied necklace topped the texture twist. This innovative jewelry from Orly Genger by Jaclyn Mayer is made of entirely hand woven climbing ropes; the knotting techniques are stemmed from those used in artist Orly Genger’s sculptures. The jewelry is a collaborative effort of the two.

For those interested in marathoning, here’s the thing…

I ran my first marathon this year, and I learned something. There is simply NO FRAME OF REFERENCE for running 26.2 miles at once. (The first guy who ran one died if you remember from history – that whole Battle of Marathon thing.) You know, like in a way, 14 miles sounds the same as 20. But I assure you. They are very different.

As a side, it reminds me of when I was nine years old and I asked my mom what childbirth was like. Mom stared upward for a long 10 seconds, looked down at me with a face I’ve never seen since, and said – “It’s like death.”

No frame of reference. Congrats!!!
