RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Olanic Fall 2009
Played before a stage of mirrors and a video montage backdrop, Olanic’s Fall 2009 collection brought us mini-dresses, cinched waists and long black gloves in a monochromatic color palette. Once labeled as Vogue’s “ones to watch”, Olanic seems to have lost some of his luster since past seasons glory.

Taking influence from street wear, the Olanic label is driven by the idea of heightening everyday, practical styles with a glamorous, tailored edge. Performance – whether related to art and film or music – is also a pivotal inspiration. Olanic was established by designer Niki Taylor in Glasgow in 2002, with a customised T-shirt range.
Taylor then went on to show her first mainline collection at Rendez-Vous, Paris and exhibited subsequent collections at London Fashion Week’s On|Off schedule. The Times recently tipped Olanic as being one of the “Top Ten Fashion Names to Watch” and Niki Taylor is currently shortlisted for the Scottish Young Designer of the Year/New Talent title at the 2006 Scottish Fashion Awards.
