Among the precocious pissants are designers Joseph Altuzarra, Alexander Wang, Chris Benz, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Pamela Love; musicians Adele, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Rihanna and most of the Young Money roster — Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj; actors Chloe Moretz, Jennifer Lawrence and Community‘s Donald Glover; and hiding out in the media category is Tavi Gevinson. And while Jaden Smith made the cut, his hair-whipping, fireball-throwing sister, Willow, is nowhere to be seen. The Fashion Fund, created by the CFDA and Vogue to aid young and emerging designers, includes a mentorship program and a cash prize. Altuzarra took home $300,000 while runners-up Pamela Love of Pamela Love Jewelry and Shane Gabier and Chris Peters of Creatures of the Wind walked away with $100,000 each.

Those that went home empty-handed were Suno’s Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis; Carlos Campos; Antonio Azzuolo of A.A. Antonio Azzuolo; Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs of Cushnie et Ochs; Ohne Titel’s Alexa Adams and Flora Gill; Fenton/Fallon’s Dana Lorenz, and Soraya Silchenstedt of Finn Jewelry.

Anna Wintour and her flock of the fabulous have meticulously the selected 10 designers (and design duos) in the running for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award. Last year, Billy Reid took the top prize of $300,000, a year of mentorship and a bronze trophy. The two runners-up Prabal Gurung and Eddie Borgo each took home $100,000 and a year of mentoring. This year, the judges are Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler (who join the committee for the first time this year), Mark Holgate of Vogue, Jeffrey Kalinsky of Jeffrey and Nordstrom, Steven Kolb of the CFDA, Reed Krakoff of Coach, Jenna Lyons of J.Crew, Andrew Rosen of Theory, Diane von Furstenberg of the CFDA, and of course the Queen herself, Anna Wintour of Vogue.

The CFDA Board of Directors chose to present their Special Tribute on Arthur Elgort in honor of his impact on photography and fashion.

The Fashion Icon Award will go to Lady Gaga for being a fashion revolutionary impacting style today.

“We look forward to once again honoring the best and brightest talent working today,” Steven Kolb, CFDA executive director said. “Winning a CFDA Fashion Award is the highest and one of the most coveted honors one can receive in our industry.”

Look Four: Layered and Lace

The Long Lace Skirt: $205

I chose this skirt because it has to be layered, and the lace is insatiable. It’s perfectly narrow at the waist with a zipper, and it flares so naturally at the bottom. Spinning takes great effect in this.

The Nether Layer Ivory Skirt: $145

I went white underneath so that the lace can come alive in contrast. It’s shorter than the lace skirt, so there’s a cloud of mystery by the ankles. The elastic at the waistband makes this piece ultra versatile and the silk makes it super soft.

The Crop Tank Back-Lace: $125

From the front, it is proportioned just right for this skirt, curving up to the top of the hips. The back is made of white lace, covering sheer from nape to waist.

The Plucked Heart Necklace: Pamela Love, $380

She’s the drummer in a band and inspired by everything from medicine to Hieronymus Bosch. She’s making mighty jewelry, rustic, weighty and evocative.

LINK LOVE:Rugged Meets Refined: Outdoorsy Summer Style

Pamela Love has some good news for all us budget conscious fans of her amazing line: first of all she’s one of us, saying “right now I can’t really even necessarily afford my jewelry”. The real news is she wants to change that by offering a lower priced line and isn’t ready to succumb to production in a factory to do it. Her solution to this is as follows: “I think we’re going to start using some costume materials to see if we can lower the price point and also at the same time try to make some really crazy extravagant pieces that are just mind-blowing and amazing.” – Sounds good to me! PS: Pamela Love is also involved in a couple collaborations for Fashion Week, so check back here for more info about that and her new lower priced line.

Another great jewelry collaboration that hit New York Fashion Week was that between Pamela Love and Zac Posen. (Love also worked with Yigal Azrouel and Frank Tell for the Fall 2009 season.)

The collection is a mix of tough and pretty: delicate braids and spike-sprouting leaves and flowers.

Her line is a veritable zoo of brass and gold wildlife, anatomy, and fantasy (talons, teeth, snakes, skulls, rams, etc.).  Williamsburg-based Love has said she prefers “pieces that are both rock-and-roll but still earthy.”
