A being that emerges from the darkness in illustrious opposition. The great search is for those who enlighten the eye’s mind. The result of such a thorough hunt equals images that bring crisp covetable style to eyes across the planet. This week, the pool shrinks; the purveyors of style are gathered in one spot. For street style photographers, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel. <span

This week she profiled one of the busiest and most successful stylists in the industry, one Ms. Mary Alice Stephenson:Mary Alice Stephenson wears a lot of hats! Her Facebook followers are in the five figures, she is a media go-to for her red carpet commentating and heart-filled fashion segments, a world renown stylist who has styled for icons such as Avedon, Hiro, Demarchelier, Lindbergh and Richardson as well as serving as a brand ambassador and spokesperson for many Fortune 500 brands. Oh, and we can’t forget to mention how cool it is that she and Barbie are talking fashion in her “dream” closet for BarbieWow.com next week, while still making time to be the national fashion ambassador for the Make a Wish Foundation. She gives her time and love for fashion to many charitable organizations all while being a single mom. She’s our new hero and we think soon to be yours, too!

<a

Each week it’s high fashion to mass fashion, it keeps me happy to be in both worlds! I can reach so many real women all over the world via social media, my followers love that they can get a look into the real world of fashion and learn how they can apply that glamour to their lives in a realistic way. One day I’m shooting for a European Vogue, doing a fashion segment for the Nate Berkus show or styling a supermodel for Estee Lauder and the next day I could be helping real women get their glam on in a mall in middle America!

Who are young designers that we should be looking to for the future of fashion?

I just had lunch with the talented designers of Cushnie et Ochs, I try to support as many up and coming designers as possible. I know how tough this business can be and how much support they need to make it. I love Flora and Alexa from Ohne Titel, Juan Carlos Obando, Joseph Altruzara, Christian Cota, Suno, Frank Tell…. There is so much talent out there right now. I try to shoot their clothes, or get them on the red carpet as well as talk about their clothes in the media to help get their point of view out to mass America. The American public needs to know there are more options than just the big brands that can afford to advertise. It’s still a struggle, for example, there were a wide range of luxury brands seen on the Golden Globe red carpet but where were Erdem, Prabal Gurung, Thakoon, Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler? I was happy to see Givenchy, Nina Ricci and Jason Wu, though — so that is some progress!

For the rest of the interview, click on over to <a

This really comes as no surprise if one considers his track record. Patrick got his training in London while working for British Vogue and, from there, he went on to have his work immortalized by the lenses of Patrick Demarchelier, Gilles Bensimon, and Kurt Marcus (among others) for the pages of W, Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and many more. Success is a stressful thing, but instead of taking a spa-cation, in 2007 Patrick opened The Patrick Melville Salon and Spa at The Sports Club/LA, the internationally reputed sports and fitness complex at Rockefeller Center. His sleek venue quickly became a top beauty destination, as it features all the amenities of a world-class spa—from luxury manicure and pedicures, to acupuncture as well as organic body and hair treatments—along with superb hair cutting and a full-service color bar. So if you were looking for a place to get your do done for those upcoming festivities, this would be it. Should you be unable to make the trip to Rockefeller Center, however, then check out these five practical holiday hairstyles from Patrick.

Through a Lens Fashionably: Fashion Week by Richard Guaty

FASHION

#nyfw

Anna Wintour

barry diller

chanel iman

Diane Von Furstenberg

Gilles Mendel

j. mendel

karolina kurkova

lookbooks.com

new york fashion week

nicki minaj

Patrick Demarchelier

rachel zoe

richard guaty

sebastian sauve

Tobias Sorensen
<guid

I was not expecting a fundamental change in the Editorial Direction being that she has been the Fashion Director of the magazine for over ten years and collaborating with Carine Roitfeld. Thus the assumption that there would be little change from the status quo. However, the April 2011 issue of VOGUE Paris gives a clear new direction; bye bye porno chic, provocation, unjustified nudity, welcome softness, lifestyle, casual clothing. Emmanuelle’s approach is more consensual and obviously more commercial, which the fashion customer might find more accessible.

I want to show in French Vogue more and more a lot of clothes … It’s a different point of view, but nobody gave me a mission to change it or make it more commercial. she stressed in her Her vision of fashion is also conditioned by the choice of photographer she has decided to collaborate with and thus don’t expect any radical changes in those she has already worked with.

I want to keep the quality, the photographers we work with—David Sims, Mert and Marcus, Mario Testino, and Bruce Weber. I don’t think there should be radical changes. The magazine should still be chic and sophisticated. The Sell Point: British It-Girls
The Model: Kate Moss
The Editorial: The Moss Factor
The Photographer: Patrick Demarchelier

If I had a nickel for every single time I saw an editorial featuring a half-naked Kate moss clad in a shaggy fur coat, I would have bought a Chanel 2.55 handbag many moons ago. Needless to say, the concept of the shoot was slightly unoriginal. I understand that the concept for this particular photo set was not overly risky due to the fact that it is the cover editorial. In contrast, the other editorials featured, particularly “And God Created Woman” featuring Guinevere van Seenus (click here for photos), really drew me in. Superstar stylist, Lucinda Chambers, took many hints from the Prada, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs A/W RTW shows through the means of sky-high beehives and headbands, past-the-knee wool skirts, ladylike corsets and 1950s inspired knits.

The Sell Point: Celebrity moonlighting as model
<strike>The Model</strike> The Celebrity: Halle Berry
The Photographer: Mario Testino

It has been a long time since the American Vogue made me go “WOW!”. It’s just not what it used to be! To top it, Halle is sporting an unflattering bob wig that is eerily reminiscent of Catherine Zeta Jones’ character in Chicago and a yawn-inducing wardrobe. I’m also really upset about the fact that the vast majority of Western fashion magazines feature celebrities on the cover simply to sell more issues. In particular, I was shocked to find that Halle Berry was going to be the cover girl for this issue. When was the last time she starred in a successful film or accomplished something great? Something tells me that Anna Wintour was looking for newsworthy buzz to surround Vogue (Halle Berry is the first African American woman to cover a Vogue September issue since 1989). All in all, the issue seems like it is going to be incredibly disappointing.

The Sell Point: A killer classic wardrobe in fall’s hottest hue: camel
The Model: Constance Jablonski
The Editorial: Dressed For Success
The Photographer: Andreas Sjodin

Things began to perk up when I flipped through the editorials of Vogue issues from further east. In this particular one, Constance is decked out in a killer mix of A/W 2010 RTW Hermes, Stella McCartney and Michael Kors (whose fur/camel pieces are my favorite items in all of the autumn/winter collections, I might add). You can never go wrong with Constance Jablonski! To me, she’s the epitome of fresh-faced beauty.

VOGUE AUSTRALIA

The Sell Point: On-trend pieces; Australia’s golden girl
The Model: Catherine McNeil
The Editorial: Pretty Baby
The Photographer: Max Doyle
One year after her memorable editorial with Abbey Lee, Catherine McNeil (one of Australia’s finest model exports) is back to cover the September issue of Vogue Australia. The pieces she is wearing transcend between decades, though are completely on-trend. The 1940s polka dot skirt and leopard corset are perfectly topped off with a pouf reminiscent of those worn by the female musicians who played concerts for the army. The 1950s-esque long tartan skirts and sweater sets perfectly capture the spirit of the fall 2010 collections. She also wears tighter-than-tight leather pants and a coiled quiff that draw inspiration from the film Grease, set in the 1960s. On the flip side, she dons creeper shoes, plaid, suspenders and PVC that scream 1990s (and Alexander Wang’s fall collection!). This is, by far, my favorite editorial of the September issues.

(All images via <a

Shot by legendary photography phenom Patrick Demarchelier, the photos are FIERCE. The hairstyles (the real stars of the editorial) and makeup are reminiscent of the 80s. One of the beauties sporting loose curls reminds me of the “The Breck Girl” while another has Jessica Rabbit-esque waves. The makeup is bold and bright, just how I like it. Overall a fabulous spread…

<span
