Behind the 60s Style Scene with Music Legend Peter Asher

Edited by

After rising to prominence on the London music scene in the 60s as one half of Peter and GordonPeter Asher went on to manage Apple Records, produce all of James Taylor‘s multi-platinum records, and influence pop music from the inside. He also made besties with Twiggy and was roomies with Paul McCartney along the way. I caught up with him at his recording studio in Santa Monica when I was in LA. He told me how the London music scene shopped, why the Apple Boutique closed, and what fashion gem was hiding in Pete Townsend‘s basement.

10 Greenest Style Icons

Edited by

Too often we judge people by the color of their gowns, and not the content of their character. Aside from acting, or modeling or baby-birding their children, stars today have a cadre of causes near and dear to their famous hearts. As our month of eco awareness rolls along the river, we highlight some fabulous women who are doing their part — and then some — to preserve nature. These ten ladies prove you can help the environment and still look damn good doing it.

Fashion Week’s Man of a Thousand Wild Suits Rocks John Lennon

Edited by

He’s a Fashion Week fixture: The man in the wild printed suit and matching newsboy hat. If you’ve been to The Tents, you’ve seen him and probably wonder, who the heck is he?  This mysteriously matching man rocked a John Lennon suit this New York Fashion Week. The deeply rooted Beatles fan in me suddenly had to know more about him and his sartorial choice of Lennon that caused quite a stir. So I asked.

The Beatles’ Epic Pillow Fight Fights Back

Edited by

Ah, the epic Pillow Fight. Historically a male fantasy about those just 17 girls in their nighties at a sleepover party, the dream took a turn to turn on countless women across the world when The Beatles started thwacking each other around with the goose downs out of sheer joy. 48 years ago in a hotel room in Paris, The Fab Four found out that “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” soared to number 1 in the United States. How else would four young men celebrate world domination?

George Harrison: Within You, Without You 10 Years Later

Edited by

10 years ago today, we lost someone very special, and our guitars have been gently weeping ever since. George Harrison, the Quiet Beatle, has left a loud impression on us, not only for being one of the greatest guitar players to ever live, but for changing the way we listen to music. It was his initiative that brought The Beatles to India and the Indian meditation and sitar to Western ears. This is, of course, after he and John, Paul and Ringo shook the world loose with Beatlemaniacal Rock ‘n’ Roll. His individuality always grew and he wore his easygoing swagger and rockstar nobility beautifully. This year, Martin Scorcese released a documentary on George that illuminated him to us even more deeply. He really was Something, wasn’t he? In honor of George, turn on your favorite George Harrison song, scroll through these photos, and send up peace and love.

Perhaps the Safest Way to Lick Steve-O and Pam Anderson: PETA’s Celebrity Vegetarian Stamps

Edited by

Always willing to try any method — no matter how heavy-handed or preachy — to bring attention to the plight of animals, PETA has put 20 noteworthy vegetarians in a sticky situation. Through December and possibly into January, PETA will offer stamps bearing the likenesses of 20 celebrity vegetarians — such as Ellen Degeneres, Oscar-winner Natalie Portman, Pamela Anderson,  Sir Paul McCartney and that paragon of virtue Steve-O — as well as some historically herbivorous figures — Pythagoras, Gandhi, Johnny Appleseed, Leonardo da Vinci and Bob “The Price Is Right” Barker

Mullet of Kintyre! Paul McCartney, Rockstars and Muppets Captured at their Funniest

Edited by

Rockstars can hardly sartorially be wrong, they tend to just be more exaggerated versions of themselves. Former Navy combat photographer, James Fortune, however, had a knack for catching the world’s biggest rock stars at their funniest. Now these original numbered prints are available for purchase on Rock Paper Photo. See George Harrison and a little green friend, Robert Plant and a little white friend, and more…

Beatles Biopic to Star Johnny Depp?

Edited by

Wait.. hold up, Beatles biopic?? Yes, please! It is frightfully true that there have been few cinematic tales of The Beatles, and even fewer with any commercial acclaim. Across the Universe was visually stunning, and box office friendly, but it did not tell the story of the Fab Four. Nowhere Boy, the young John Lennon story, got buzz in the Beatle world back in 2009, but no real ticket traction. However, the currently in-the-works film, The Longest Cocktail Party would cover the recording of Let It Be and the creation of Apple Records. With Johnny Depp in the works, you could call it a Beatles bi-epic.
