RUNWAY: Paul Smith Women Spring 2010
Paul Smith knows menswear best, so why would you expect anything but androgyny in the man’s Spring 2010 women’s line? Smith sent a plethora of suits, ties, button ups, oxfords, slacks, blazers and cardigans down the runway in a vast variety of colors and prints. Want a solid, hot-pink suit or a royal-blue checkered cardigan? Well, Smith certainly covered all bases and made sure to hit those not terribly feminine, but lady-like none the less, draped, tied and wrapped dresses and blouses. Colorful and cooky, but oh so beautifully constructed.

London Fashion Week Begins Today

London fashion week, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, begins today.
RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Paul Smith Women Fall 2009
To put it very bluntly, I don’t take bright colors very seriously. A strange notion, I know, but doesn’t it always seem that the girls starving for attention or fooling their way through life wear the hot pink and lime green? Well, thanks to Paul Smith Women’s Fall 2009 collection, I have a newfound appreciation for the bright and bold. Tastefully intertwined in a collection of classic English khaki trenches, a variety of houndstooth tweed pieces, voluminous floral dresses, floody knickers and horizontal striped sweaters, Smith added eccentric splashes of bright color to spice up a timeless stock of garments. Though Smith claims his collection was designed sans an inspiration, I find his vision very obvious: standing out while fitting in.
