Designer Daily: Lindsey Thornburg

Edited by

After an enlightening hike up Peru’s Machu Picchu, Lindsey Thornburg shrouded her focus in cloaks. Like John Bartlett, she put her vast collection of Pendleton blankets to work to manifest her vision. With these enveloping cloaks riding atop fiery printed silks and heavy breezing dresses, she’s brought her Colorado roots to light in New York. Having studied philosophy in Santa Barbara, her vibes are strong and majorly thought provoking. Spring sprung at me from the online boutique Totokaelo, and we dug a little deeper. See her Autumn/Winter 2012 collection to see what we mean.

A Moment in The Limelight

Edited by

Those who now attend the gothic church on the corner of 6th Avenue and 20th Street probably pray to the gods of fashion. For the past year it has been the home of The Limelight Marketplace, a maze of over 60 local shops selling everything from artisan crafted jewelry to artisan craft cheese. And jeans, flip flops and fast trends as well. And art. And haircuts. And various tchotchkes. Perhaps they were praying for something a little less scatterbrained. To that end, Limelight owner Jack Manashe has terminated most of his selling tenants as he redefines the place as a department store.

Don’t Be A Hunchback–Trade Your Heavy Tote For One Of These Stylish Backpacks

Edited by

Commuting is annoying – the traffic, the late trains, the people who can’t walk. Large totes are great for carrying a laptop, wallet, and makeup, but they get easily overloaded and neck-aches ensue. Fellow working women, it’s time to rediscover our childhood BFF–the backpack. Stop leaning to one side while you hustle – there are cool backpacks out there and we can prove it. Check out these 5 fashionable options, that don’t even remotely resemble the monogrammed L.L. Bean sack you had in 5th grade.

This bright pink Marc by Marc Jacobs Pretty Nylon Backpack $158 is super light weight and has top straps too, in case you have a hard time letting go of the tote trend.

Free People’s Russel backpack ($128) has dark brown leather buckles to give it a rustic and vintage look. And there’s shoulder straps – transforming it from a backpack to a messenger bag.

You can never go wrong with a basic backpack, like this Juicy Couture Pendleton Backpack ($248). The wool-blend material and plaid pattern are so in style for this upcoming fall.

The Deux Lux Mixed Media Corduroy Backpack ($68) takes a funky spin on the standard black backpack with the combination of materials and metals. There’s even a zip pocket on the back.

FIRST LOOK: Opening Ceremony Fall 2009 Lookbook

I did my heart a major disservice by setting foot inside Opening Ceremony this past weekend, my sole intentions to browse. Oh, how heartbroken I was to see those college-budget killing pieces from Opening Ceremony’s Fall 2009 collection hanging ever so tauntingly on the shelves. From the Pendleton collaboration to the the awesome Keith Haring sweaters and skirts, I really enjoyed the prints Opening Ceremony has to offer for the fall. And don’t worry boys, there are some great jackets and cardigans, as well as a variety of fun desert boots in store for you! Check out Opening Ceremony’s lookbook and start taking your picks!
