Diva Dialogue: Cindy Crawford for Roberto Cavalli

Edited by

Upon seeing CIndy Crawford’s photo from Roberto Cavalli’s new anniversary book, my sister from another mister and I had a serious, in-depth discussion.

Diva Dialogue: Cindy Crawford for Roberto Cavalli

Dolly: Ugh, tell me she’s commercial and I’ll spit in your face.

And then hers.
And then ill slap it.

Me: She can do whatever the hell she wants. Raymour & Flannigan then Roberto Cavalli. Throw her in another Pepsi commercial, 85 years after the original, and show me the difference.

Dolly: I dare you.

Honeymoon: 8/2 – 8/8

Edited by

Honeymoon: 8/2 – 8/8
This week, some serious emotional storms will be brewing! Most signs will feel as though they’re being pulled in a thousand different directions, unable to shake off the zodiac’s super-emotional grip. Still, a few lucky Honey Bees will benefit from a few sprinklings of romantic stardust. Find out if the stars will be naughty or nice this week here.

Aries
The stars will align in seesaw formation this week! One minute, your social life will shoot towards the moon, while your romantic life hits the ground with a thud. Before you can say “ouch”, your equilibrium could shift and the opposite may become true. Brace yourself for impact, and learn to expect the unexpected. Celestial Style Tip: Second Denim Co. Eco Jeans in Woodstock are totally gypset – environmentally conscious and bohemian chic.

Taurus
The planetary alignment in your sign will be as explosive as pop rocks and Pepsi this week! Unfortunately, this won’t be the week that your prayers for a steady, stable commitment will be answered. It’s the time to cast your net wide, because you may find your Big Fish further out than you could’ve imagined. Celestial Style Tip: Cooperative’s Mixed Buckle Tote will tote your essentials in style (and looks like it costs ten times the price).

Gemini
The universe will amplify your already considerable allure this week, and potential suitors will be after you in droves. Many of the dudes/dudettes spitting game may not be your type at first glance, but since you’re known for pushing boundaries, why not give one you find especially cute a shot? Celestial Style Tip: Deena & Ozzy’s Chain Tote is a little bit nautical, a little bit Brooklyn, and very stylish.

Cancer
The moon will shine brightly in your sign, and will this will inspire you to either run wild or run far away from whatever its beams illuminate. It could be a particularly difficult week, with your emotional balance flowing back and forth like the tides. Normally it’s not good to make decisions in this state, but if you think someone’s toying with you – it’s time to get rid of dead weight. Celestial Style Tip: Genevieve Jones’ bejeweled safety pin earrings embody punk done pretty.

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

Edited by

In the next month, the world will see itself in the grips of football fever, a pandemic that occurs once every four years. No doubt the accomplished players show great skill on the football pitch, however off the pitch instead is where my interest lies. Football stars meet fashion? Why yes, and often with interesting results. And no, they aren’t merely limited to underwear advertisement campaigns (although admittedly there’s a fair few of that too). Come find out what happens when football takes on fashion!

Exalted like gods, the players of the biggest sport around the world have found new life off the field. We’ve seen famous faces endorsing a whole range of lifestyle products, from soft drinks like Pepsi to personal hygiene products like shavers.

It seems like if you’re young, fit and a footballer, odds are that you’ll most likely find your face plastered on a billboard somewhere, even if they’re for products that are completely unrelated and slightly bizarre!

Christiano Ronaldo for Clear Men

Unsurprisingly, the fashion industry has also embraced these players wholeheartedly. Fit male athletes with sculptured muscles from a variety of nationalities? It's practically a match made in (fashion) heaven!

Here are the top 5 moments when fashion met football:

#1. Football players as models

A host of football players have been the face of countless fashion advertisement campaigns. These are but just some of my favourites:

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football CollidesDavid James for Emporio Armani (1995)

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football CollidesPaolo Maldini for H&M (2007)

#2. Football players as magazine owners

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

English football star and Britian’s best dressed man as selected by GQ magazine, Rio Ferdinand has started an online magazine called #5 which explores the realm of sport, fashion, film and music.

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

The magazine has featured some of the best atheletes in the world from a wide variety of sports such as Roger Federer, Lebron James and Wayne Rooney but lest you think it’s an testosterone overload, there’s also a good mix of models, film stars and general trivia.

#3. Football players as boutique owners

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

Italian football legend, Paolo Maldini, may have hung up his boots but he’s not contend to live a quiet life of retirement. He most recently made headlines when it was reported that he was in business with ex-Oasis rocker Liam Gallagher for Pretty Green, Gallagher’s new clothes store. With plans to become a leading fashion house in Europe, the order is quite a tall one for the ex-football star/current budding business mogul. Whatever it is, I expect this will not be the last we hear of Maldini!

#4. Football players as fashion designers

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

Thierry Henry is celebrated not only for his skills on the football pitch, but he’s a veritable fashion designer too having collaborated with Tommy Hilfiger on a highly successful capsule collection.

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

All proceeds of sales went to the One 4 All charity, which fights against racism and social inequality, which goes to show that Henry is not merely a football star, fashion designer but a philantrophist to boot.

#5. Football players as actors

Zinedine Zidane was a surprise face during the Yohji Yamamoto-led Y3 Spring/Summer 2010 short film. Upon viewing it, the reason why the football star was cast became clear.

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

The Y3 Spring/Summer 2010 collection celebrates sports heritage and with the 2010 World Cup in mind, there’s no better icon to pick than the Frenchman who’s a bonafide football legend.

As you can see, fashion and football are not two mutually-exclusive items. They’re definitely not as far-fetched as the scoffing football fanatics will have you believe. In fact, when you think about it, this year’s world cup trophy case is created from none other than Louis Vuitton, one of the most famous high-end brand across the globe.

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

No surprise given their “legends” campaign that featured three of the most high profile players in the history of the game, Pele, Diego Maradona and Zinedine Zidane.

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

Last but not least, let’s not ignore the significant amount of commercial space that has been given to showcasing footballers and their skin. Or to be more precise, football players as faces of underwear campaigns. Here are the top five best underwear campaigns as fronted by football players:

#1. Freddie Ljungberg for Calvin Klein Underwear

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

#2. David Beckham for Armani Underwear

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

#3. Hidetoshi Nakata for Calvin Klein Underwear

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

#4. Christiano Ronaldo for Armani Underwear

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

#5. The Italy team for Dolce & Gabbana Calcio Underwear

World Cup 2010: When Fashion and Football Collides

Be it high fashion or underwear, football has certainly wormed a special place on the mantle of pop culture. What’s your favourite moment when fashion and football collides?

From these pictures alone, Eolo Perfido proves to have creepy, glamorous, and commercial photography in his repertoire.  He’s worked for Ad Agencies JWT, BBDO, and Saatchi & Saatchi, and has also been featured in Vogue Russia and the New York Times.  I was utterly impressed with Perfido until I saw the last photo…Indiana Jones plays soccer and drinks Pepsi? I don’t even know what’s going on there, but hey, I guess you have to make your money somehow so you can keep taking pictures of little red riding hoods in wolf masks.
