Kat Von D Brings Us Saint and Sinner

With all the perfumes out there, it’s sometimes easier if we classify ourselves to a specific type to break down the confusion. Maybe you like the subtler scents, the vanilla flavored, angelic fragrances, or maybe you’re more “out there”, you prefer those scents that really state your presence in the room. Kat Von D seems to have found the answer to both of these. Her two perfumes, Saint and Sinner, take a walk on the wild side with Sinner, and give you that angelic touch with Saint. Haven’t tried it yet, but we hear they’re pretty awesome. Pick one up at Sephora stores this September!

Yes, There’s A Perfume Video Game

If you ever dreamt of creating and selling your own perfume, here’s the perfect shot. Video game company PlayFirst has released Passport to Perfume, a game centered around a woman by the name of Sophia who creates her own fragrances and manages a boutique that sells them. I knew their were video games for just about everything, but somehow I didn’t think this would make the list. But hey, I’m not complaining!

Spraying Perfume In Public Suddenly Gets Dangerous

News has broken out that a woman in Ft. Worth, Texas caused quite the disaster. Just when the woman decided to spray a bit of her favorite perfume, 34 people ended up hospitalized and 100 others treated at the scene of the spray before they were released. What firefighters initially thought of as a reaction to a gas leak was really a bad reaction to the perfume! Hopefully she’ll be more careful next time.

Justin’s fave perfume doesn’t surprise me at all…

The 50ml perfume comes in its own gift box, each individually numbered between 1 to 2000!

WTF!?!: Amy Winehouse Perfume

Hopefully this is a big joke, and due to the source it just might be, but British paper the Daily Star is claiming that Amy Winehouse is in talks to launch her own perfume. She would be joining countless celebrities and although I don’t really want to smell like them either, at least they are clean. A namless industry insider seems to agree with me saying: “Frankly, she doesn’t look like she smells that nice, so doing some positive publicity to prove it doesn’t just smell of stale booze and fags would be vital.” Well, I guess if you want to smell like a bum you can begin lining up now. I won’t be joining you, but I was nice enough to pick a flattering picture of Amy.

BEAUTY GOODIES: Diptyque

Diptyque has been creating classic scented candles since 1961 and making my room smell amazing since I first visited their Paris store in 2007. With a sparse black and white aesthetic mimicking the elegant writing on their candles, the Diptyque store is a glamourous haven for amazing smells and helpful employees who can turn any passerby into a scent connoisseur. Asking helpful questions about your favorite scents and recommending something you are sure to love it’s hard to leave the Diptyque store without one of their amazing products. A helpful hint I learned from Diptyqye: the best way to get the true sent of a candle is to knock it out of the glass, and smell the inside of the glass. You can get the Diptyque experience at their New York location (377 Bleecker Street).

Daphne Guinness: New ‘Woody’ Perfume with Comme des Garcons

Couture Icon and lover of incorporating armor in fashion Daphine Guinness is releasing a perfume with Comme des Garcons. The scent is inspired by her past, which could either mean it smells like a Guinesss brewery or a mixture of couture and diamonds. Daphne herself says, “This has a lot of woods because that’s what I love… also the Seventies and moss.” Sounds like the prefect mixture of both.

FROM THE ARCHIVES: Yves Saint Laurent Opium Ads

A huge fan of classic perfumes, I have always appreciated Yves Saint Laurent’s Opium for both its scent and controversial name (I myself wear Dior’s Pure Poison, a name sure to get a reaction in the same vein as Opium). Although not as famous -or infamous- as their advertisement featuring Sophie Dahl, vintage Opium ad’s are always dangerous, exotic, and richly colored landing them at the top of the my list of perfume advertisements.

Halle Berry Returns to her 20’s; Release a Scent.

Is Halle Berry still considered a celebrity? Everyone of her movies since she fucked Billy Bob have been complete flops (unless of course she’s Storm, in which the overall movie about heroes with killer powers is probably the main draw) and she hasn’t hit my radar, which makes me believe she’s completely off the radar for everyone else.
Congrats on being way, way late on the whole endorsement thing. Too bad these type of things aren’t as big as they used to be. Then again, this is Obama America, so maybe you’ll sell out to a target audience. Either way your looking like a pretty, pretty photoshop princess ready for the ball. Just be sure to get the princes number before the clock strikes midnight because we all know your face will change from Rihanna to that 40ish year old you really are.

Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams for ‘Greed’

Here is a great advertisement for ‘Greed’ a new perfume by Fransceso Vezzoli in which Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams engage in a fierce battle over said product.
Directed by Roman Polanski, this project’s goal is is to isolate and imitate the hype created by the promotion of a new luxury product in the mass market. Basically, a faux ad campaign for an imagined perfume.

Juliette Has A Gun, And A Very Powerful Smell

I was just turned on to the great collection “Juliette Has a Gun,” a perfume collection from Romano Ricci, great-grandson of famed couturier Nina Ricci. I have not gotten myself this collection just yet…but I am sure when I do, I will find a favorite out of these decadent perfumes. As I type this, I can smell the rose and vanilla scents in my hair and I feel like I should be wearing a pair of sexy Christian Dior black leather boots. Inspired by one of Shakespeare’s most-beloved heroines, Romano’s first two scents in the collection -Lady Vengeance and Miss Charming-were created with the assistance of master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian. Citizen Queen, the new scent, I think will be my first purchase.

Elegant yet bristling with wild, thorny rose, Lady Vengeance hides its claws under velvety rose petals, soft patchouli and seductive vanilla. Sly and charming under her rosy exterior, Lady Vengeance lays waste to the non-believers in the seductive powers of rose by wrapping her legs around earthy patchouli and dipping her fingers in the time honored man slayer of golden vanilla, a combination that’s impossible to deny. Resistance is futile! Lady Vengeance top notes are Bulgarian rose, vanilla, patchouli.

Miss Charming bats her eyelashes with innocence and virginal sweetness, a gentle rose scent sweetened with a burst of wild fruits resulting in a wispy and flirty perfume that brightens any occasion. I bet your friends and coworkers will stand a little closer when you wear this, smile a little more and chat a little longer. It might be your sparkling wit and scintillating conversation, suspect it’s just Miss Charming working her sweet, sweet magic. Miss Charming notes are Moroccan rose, musk, wild fruits.

Juliette had a gun, now it also has a crown. Citizen Queen the third weapon in this hip series of rose fragrances is the most powerful one yet. Blended with amber and patchouli, the dark, leathery rose at the center of the composition takes no prisoners. Violet and iris soften the striking mix, adding a charming retro quality to the perfume. Veiled by this delicately powdery accord, the rose is mysterious, elusive, endlessly intriguing. Citizen Queen main notes are Leather, Bulgarian Rose, Iris, Amber, Immortal flowers, Labdanum.

Collab-Ho: Shiro Kuramata’s Perfume Bottle For Issey Miyake
Apart from being a collaboration between two of Japan’s greatest creative minds, it’s also a limited edition, posthumous one that, until recently, was technically too difficult to actually make.
Miyake recalls, ‘Kuramata suggested an oversized drop of water and a condensed version of the earth with visions of flowers and dreams, light and wind, men and women dancing a rondo inside.’ Back in 1990 industrial techniques didn’t allow for a clean circle to be cut into a cube, let alone for a party to take place inside one.
Almost twenty years on, though sadly after Kuramata’s death in 1991, 2,500 bottles have been made. Thanks to the development of laser technology, a perfect sphere has been cut into a cube of glass and polished, achieving the ‘absolute purity’ Kuramata intended with his original drawings. A nod to the designer’s Memphis involvement comes in the turquoise blue cap and the box, which features the designer’s trademark ‘Star Piece Terrazzo’ pattern.
The limited release of a design that could have been consigned to the history books without ever having been made is reason enough to raise its value. But given the technical precision of the design, Kuramata’s ‘ahead-of-his-time’ thinking and the timeless appeal of the object itself, we would recommend you keep the bottle long after the perfume’s finished.

Fashion Quotable: Diddy

Diddy speaks in behalf of his new perfume named “I AM KING” due out in Dec.
“I believe in positive affirmations, If I say, ‘I am not going to succeed, I’m a loser,’ then that’s what I am going to be. If we say we’re kings and we say we’re queens, that’s what we’re going to be. It has nothing to do with being arrogant.”
