Designer Daily: Gemma Redux

Edited by

From a coveted studio in the CFDA Incubator, come the rough rocking metals and natural stones of Gemma Redux. The designer behind the smashing brand is Rachel Dooley, a former engineer and law student who took a short break from studying for the Bar exam to make a necklace, and never went back. Months later, her jewelry was cropping up in editorials for super major publications. Nearly each item I looked at in her webstore had the annotation, Featured in Nylon, Featured in T Magazine, Featured in Paper Magazine etc… Yesterday she dropped a film for the Spring 2012 collection that hit us close to home. So we asked her a few questions about the rocks that she’s got.

10 Fashion Stars of the 17th Annual Out 100

Edited by

Andrej Pejic gets wrapped up in Nastassja Kinski. Brad Goreski channels Yves Saint Laurent. And Nicola Formichetti holds up two pork shanks. Is this just another day in the glamorous life? Yes, but it’s also Out Magazine‘s homage to some of the fashion industry’s best and gayest. For their 17th Annual Out 100 list, the mag enlisted the talents of Gavin Bond to create portraits inspired by iconic photos of the past. Mining the catalogs of Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Irving Penn and Helmut Newton, among others, Bond’s photos serve a fitting tribute to the 100 queens, trannies, lesbians, and other assorted queers that showed that if things don’t necessarily get better, they at least get fabulous.

#CzechItOut: 12 Spring Spa Swimsuits

Edited by

You might have seen my packing Czech list for this spa journey I’m on through the Czech Republic. I neglected to include that I brought just one swimsuit with me – a neon striped bottom and reversible bandeau top. Such an efficient packer, thought I. What I didn’t realize was how few massages I’d be getting, and how many bath houses I’d be swimming in. The Czech spa triangle is famous for is natural mineral water springs – for drinking and bathing – that hold cures for many illnesses and make your skin look sensational. Thus far I’ve swum in the mineral caves of the Castle Bath Spa in Karlovy Vary, the public family mineral pool at the Aquaforum in Frantiskovy Lazne (where I also got a hot stone massage from the hot son of the hot DILF spa owner – more on that later), and the royal roman bath house at the Maria Spa in Marianske Lazne (from which I’m currently writing). With that – I wish I could have brought these 12 Spring 2012 swimsuits with me. Czech It Out.

4 Trends that Spring Forward

Edited by

Fashion Week has spread its Spring seed. The Big 4; NY, London, Milan and Paris have offically had their say, and now we can reflect. (We’re certainly not reflecting on NJ Fashion Week. Wait, what? That exists?! No, no. Well, yes. But really, no.) We’ve collected the trends that have spoken. The four trends that dominated the four cities we trust with our fashionable senses called out to us from many a runway. We’ve taken our favorite from each city, each trend that matters. See what’s abuzz here, there and everywhere for Spring 2012.

Anatomy of a Handbag: NYFW Spring 2012

Edited by

Now that the swarms of photogs, editors, bloggers, stylists and what-have-yous have descended on Milan Fashion Week, we here at FashionIndie can finally take some time out to reflect on the hectic week that was New York Fashion Week by rifling through our still bursting bags. Nothing tells the details of debauchery like the contents of a lady’s purse.

I’m Looking Through You in Spring 2012′s Clearest Trend

Edited by

Surely sheers are sexy. They are the reason so many nipples exist on the runway. Clearly, we won’t be wearing them commando commes des models, rather these sheers are a sign that reads: make sure you are buying fantastic undergarments. Bandeaus, booty/bike shorts, itty bitty camisoles and more clothing-less-lingerie-like bras. Spring 2012 will be free of inhibition. Just ask Alexander Wang, Peter Som, Marc Jacobs and sensational others.

#NYFW Cheat Sheet: Peter Som

Edited by

Peter Som peered through the eye of a kaleidoscope for his colorful and vibrant spring 2012 collection. Color was the key with a parade of feminine and floral blouses, pants and dresses with the occasional khaki trench dress and twill coat thrown in for good, ladylike measure.

Fashion Wars: Lincoln Center v. Milk Studios

Edited by

Ever since Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week moved from the tents at Bryant Park to the metaphorical tents at Lincoln Center, more and more designers have opted instead of external sites to hold their fashion shows. One of the most popular venues, Milk Studios, is now in direct competition with Lincoln Center for both sponsors and designers.
