The Camisole: The camisole is one if the most basic pieces to your spring gym wardrobe. It should be fitted enough to show your body but not too tight because you still have to workout. It’s best to pick one out in a neutral color so you can transition them into your regular wardrobe when you aren’t in the gym. This Under Armour Camisole is great because it absorbs moisture and has a built in bra.

The Sports Bra: Nothing else says you are more comfortable with your body than wearing just a sports bra around the gym. Get a bold color to make the statement and stay in rend with this seasons brighter look. GAP offer this stretch knit sports bra. You’ve worked hard for that flat tummy so why not show it off.

Yoga Pants: Yoga pants can easily look boring and bad at the gym. You can add a little something to the dullness of the pants by buying them with a printed waistband. Victoria’s Secret PINK collection has you covered for any print that you can think up.

The Shorts: It’s always great to show a little leg no matter where you are. A pair of printed shorts adds personality to you workout outfit and look way more sophisticated than the regular Sofee short. Make sure you are comfortable with the cut of the short and remember you are at the gym and not a stripclub. No one really wants to see your buttcheeks. ROXY is known for there cute prints and their Athletix line offers these great shorts

The Shoes: Some people think that shoes aren’t that important in a workout: Wrong! They are extremely important to the training you want to do and they can make or break your outfit. Throw out your boring clunky shoes and trade them in for Nike’s LunarSwift+ Women’s Running Shoe. They are lightweight and are the perfect pop of color.

The Outerwear: It’s important that what ever you wear over your gym clothes is just as just as what is under. for this get a jacket that is but functional and flirty. You can’t go wrong with this Nike Cyclone Jacket. It also works great for those chilly morning runs.

The Bag: A girl has to have her accessories. Instead of toting around a cumbersome gym bag, opt for the Retro Groove bag from lululemon. This is a super sleek way of carrying all your gear.

What made you want to start designing?
I never thought I would pursue a career in fashion. I originally did not have formal and technical training, I didn’t go to FIT. I went to school for fine arts, so I always assumed I’d do something in that realm but didn’t know what that would be. But then I started making my own clothing and got some really great feedback. My pieces developed quick notoriety because of their eccentricity and experimental appeal. It led me to start branding the label and making custom dresses. I realized my passion and that creating clothing was my art. It is what I wanted to do, but I did not want to work traditionally and looked at clothing as wearable art. Although I taught myself about the fashion industry as a business, as far as being a designer, I am first and foremost an artist before anything else – an artist with a fashion business.

You started out reworking vintage clothing? Do you still take a lot of inspiration from vintage fashion for your line? Is the line still costumesque?

From what was once an ‘inspiration collection’ of crazy altered vintage clothing, a handful of these pieces were later reworked to create a RTW collection which is consistent with my conceptual ideas yet is more universally wearable. It creates an attainable outlet for girls to dress up in their everyday lives that I thought the fashion world was lacking. I am inspired by vintage but now use new fabrics that are re-orderable.

In your bio, it says you pay a lot of attention to the “magic of childhood dress up.” Were you a super girly girl as a child or did you have some tomboy in you? Did you play with Barbies?

I did have Barbies, I loved them, but I wasn’t super girly. I always went against the grain. All of my girlfriends loved pink but I loved purple. But I like pink now and feel it can be extra cute and feminine, but in my collection, there are dark details too. I think it’s more about dress-up and reconnecting to the characters which inspire the dresses and the idea of adding fun to the wardrobe in everyday life. I love your housewife dresses! When you design your collections, do you keep specific people, like the housewife, in mind or are they imaginary, inspirational characters?

The housewife dress is just a satirical piece created for runway.  These dresses are kind of poking at society’s idealistic housewife since they are really short & sexy.

What are some of your other styles?

The Lolli Cupcake dresses are the brand’s trademark. They’re girlie, fun and cute, which all describe the line. We call the feathered dresses “Fairy Dresses.” The psychedelic pieces are 60s mod styles and the “Doll” pieces often have a lot of lace and embellishments.

Lolli Popitt is for “daring who like to stand out in a crowd.” Could you walk me through the ideal day-in-the-life of a Lolli girl? What does she do? Who does she meet?

If wearing one of our couture pieces, a Lolli girl should probably by prepared to meet and talk to anyone because she is bound to get attention. These dresses are conversation pieces, so she must be daring to wear them. But when wearing our RTW pieces, a perfect Lolli candidate is confident and just wants to have fun with her wardrobe.

When I wear the crazier stuff, I think I kind of become a performance artist. I think the clothes can bring out a personality that you may not have known you had.

So, you don’t always have to be a fashion risk-taker to wear Lolli Popitt? Does the Lolli Girl ever dress down?

Although the line is risky and avant-garde, that is not our entire collection. The line IS wearable. The really crazy stuff is just an over-the-top and accentuated take on our conceptual ideas. But the garments are wearable. They can also be worn every day without the commitment to that non-stop attention that our couture yields.

I noticed a lot of your designs feature inner-wear as outer-wear – corsets, bras, bustiers. What inspired you to focus on this trend for Lolli Popitt?

The feathered bras are technically lingerie, but you can wear them out. You can wear them alone with jeans or a skirt, but I think they look best accompanying something. They are fancy and functional. They can be worn underneath a button down (revealing the feathers) as well as over a slip with a skirt to make them fancier. Musicians have worn them to red carpet events and in their music videos.

The lace lingerie shorts were originally created to go under the dresses that we put down the runway, but we then realized that they compliment the clothing really well.

Where do you find inspiration? Who are your style icons? What other designers and artists do you look up to?

I was inspired by performance artists like Leigh Bowery, who literally was his art. He dressed-up eccentrically every day for all to see. Joanna Frueh, an artist/writer who studied the correlation between femininity, sexuality and  beauty in everyday life. Twiggy’s signature dresses have inspired my psychedelic pieces.

Recently, I have been dressing musician, Neon Hitch, an incredibly unique performer whose daring and organic style embodies the ideals of both of my lines, especially the Crystal Knuckles jewelry.

My aunt, Carole Feuerman, a well-known photo-realist sculptor, is one of my biggest idols. Learning from her has helped me see how I could create a foundation to turn art into a business.

Your Crystal Knuckles jewelry line looks amazing. How did you get started designing jewelry and what is the inspiration behind the pieces?

I’ve always collected crystals. My aunt would give me a crystal whenever I saw her while growing up. My initial collection was started using those stones, the ones that I had from my aunt. I owned several over-sized rings which I loved and thought that using natural crystals to create jewelry would be a really unique idea. In fact, in gemology you’re supposed to have a crystal on you at all times because they are said to bring healing and protective powers. The rings will be featured on Ideeli.com and we are currently in contact with Henri Bendel, Barney’s & Scoop NYC. I will keep you posted on what’s to come!

The first 100 in line arrived early with a mission. They got to meet and snap a photo with Victoria’s Secret supermodels Chanel Iman and Erin Heatherton. Others waited for football favorites Mark Sanchez and Brandon Jacobs to roll in for a meet and greet. The event was held to promote PINK’s new line of NFL, girl-approved apparel – “PINK NFL.”

Inside, Chanel and Erin stood calmly posing for a quick photo shoot. (They smiled, tossing a silver, sequined football back and forth.) TV reporters came next, taping segments with the tall models, who were decked out in Giants and Jets gear. When it was my turn, I walked past the semi-circle of media commotion and straight up to Chanel and Erin. Here’s how our interview went down.

LookBooks: Growing up, who were some models that you looked up to and got inspiration from?

Erin: “I love Cindy Crawford because she is a beautiful, powerful, glamorous woman. She’s tall like me, and she’s also from Illinois like me. She really embodies a positive energy that not all models have. She’s really just gorgeous and happy, and she is a real picture of health and pureness.”

Chanel: “I’m a big Kate Moss fan.”

Erin: “On the other side.”

Chanel: “I love her. She’s a rock star!”

LookBooks: We’ve never seen a picture of you guys when you didn’t look stunning. Have you ever taken a bad photo?

Chanel: “Well there’s a lot of pictures out there that I would never put on the Internet. But for the most we don’t have control of that. They get out sometimes and we think why would they take that picture?”

Erin: “I think being tired is the worst thing. I mean when I wake up in the morning and take a shower and have no makeup on I sometimes feel my best. Then when you have tons of makeup on you can feel awesome, too. It’s best to love yourself just the way you are naturally. But definitely, get your sleep.”

Chanel: “You know what’s funny, Erin, is I just showed you a picture. We were discussing why someone would use a certain picture of us. Remember, but you said, ‘it’s beautiful!’”

Erin: “Everyone’s always hard on themselves.”

Chanel: “Yeah, I think everybody’s like that.”

LookBooks: For the millions of girls who dream about it, what’s it like being a Victoria’s Secret supermodel?

Chanel: “It’s a lot of hard work, and it’s a lot of hours. It’s seriously a full-on schedule, and it’s non-stop. But at the same time, it’s a lot of fun. It’s glamorous and it’s a job that we are very privileged to have. We love working with wonderful, beautiful people.”

Rihanna was spotted hanging out in New York City after her sold-out Madison Square Garden concert. I’m loving the new hair and the makeup is a perfect contrast to her bright red tresses. I’m thinking the pink lip is a better look with her red hair than the red-on-red. What do you think?

Over at the The 10th Annual Harold Pump Foundation Gala, Laila Ali was in attendance as her father the legendary Muhammad Ali as well as Denzel Washington were honored. I love her bangs! I might have to steal those. Makeup is on point as well. Hot!

Several celebs were spotted at the InStyle magazine Summer Soirée. Actress Sanaa Lathan and her beautiful skin were there. I’m loving her curls and her soft makeup. Hot!

We already know Kim Kardashian was in the building. Her makeup looks great as usual, but what’s going on with the shape of her lips? Cute updo though.

Kissable Couture creator Keisha Whitaker also made an appearance. Aside from it looking like someone went a little bit overboard with the powder under her eyes, she looks great.

Actress Jurnee Smollet stepped out looking all kinds of stunning. Her skin care secrets must be divulged NOW. That will be all.

And rounding out the InStyle event was the lovely Garcelle Beauvais Nilon also rocking jaw-dropping gorgeous skin. I’m about to straight print her pic out and request this hair at a future salon visit. Hot!

Celebs were out for the Lottery Ticket premiere. Anyone going to see this? *crickets*

Just kidding—it looks like it might be cute. Teairra Mari turned in her singing hat for an acting one in this film. Her hair looks great and I love her makeup. The lashes are a bit too spiky, but still cute. Hot!

Naturi Naughton slid through the red carpet and while I like her hair and makeup, I feel like it ages her. Isn’t she like 24?

Someone come hold my hand. Please. No Big Les didn’t. With that frosty AND iridescent lip color. She actually would have had something going here if she 86?d the lips and filled the brows in more. Hmm… Her haircut is cute though.

Angela Simmons was out supposedly supporting her on-again boo Bow Wow. She looks good—I’d add a little loose powder to blot the shine down a bit, but still Hot!

And last but not least, Malika Haqq’s cute self was at the SWAGG Polo Challenge. Her hair looks super cute and what I can see of her makeup looks pretty. Hot!

I wore this outfit yesterday to an event in the city. The top is a floral print shirt length dress from Forever 21, H&M Jeans and Nine West Shoes. I love the colors in the top and paired with the pink platforms gives this look just the right amount of color for summer. Some people go over board with pairing brights, but the blue and tan in the top, tones down the yellow and coral and by adding the pink shoes it allowed the entire outfit to pop.

I also finally did something different with my hair! I put my hair in bantu knots (straight hair twisted into little knots) and it came out like this. I had different size knots which is why my waves were varying lengths, but this was just the experiment. Practice makes perfect right?

Apparently Pink recently got a little annoyed by Kanye’s affinity for wearing fur.  She sat near him at the Stella McCartney show in January, and noted…

“The entire time Kanye was going, ‘They need more fur in this show.’ He just wouldn’t shut up about how much he loved fur. I mean, he’s saying this to me, the PETA guy and Paul McCartney!

“I was just grossed out by him. I’m like, ‘You’re an idiot’. There are so many people who are a waste of skin and he’s up there. I should wear him. Go on, donate yourself Kanye. People can wear your fur.”

Hm. Would you wear some Louis Vuitton logo-embossed Kanye skin? How overpriced would that be?

Givenchy’s newest collection of shoes are bondage oxfords in colors that make me think about long scenic strolls along the Gay Pride Parade.  Seriously, find me someone willing to wear these and I’ll show you where he likes to hide his gerbel.

Unfortunately, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has become so cliche and cookie cutter that there are rarely any huge highlights for me anymore. Don’t get me wrong the show is amazing and more or less flawless every year, but where has all the excitement gone? There was one part of the show that had me on the edge of my seat getting into the show, and that was the Pink collection shown above. This part of the fashion show actually featured some cool fashions. The standard bra and panties are getting a bit old, only because there isn’t really any versatility in the looks. The Pink collection featured cool pieces, fresh new models (who have to do a good job or they’ll get deported), and a great up and coming feel. The massive scarf shown in the video was my favorite part of the show (besides Miranda Kerr of course). I am starting my search for it today. The scarf was huge, and now that I think about it, it was almost on the verge of being deemed a blanket. So any Victoria’s Secret personel out their who may, by some divine miracle, read this, less cookie cutter formalities, more exciting stuff like the Pink collection. Oh and if you could get me a date with Miranda Kerr that would be great too!

There was an animal loose at the Bambi awards, and it certainly wasn’t a doe. Leopard print was seen all over the  red carpet; some was cute, but mostly it looked a bloody mess. Sylvie van der Vaart’s dress was a flattering cut and print, but the fabric, from what I can see, looks cheap. The dress Julia Stegner showed up wearing might be one of the ugliest garments I’ve seen in awhile. And those shoes? Bitch please. Birkenstocks would have looked more feminine. Pink resembles like the Prince of Pukey Outfits in this leopard gown. That color almost looks like camouflage from Gander Mountain. The worst possible things you can do with leopard print is put it on cheap fabric, give it a train or wear it immediately after the skinning. Congratulations, ladies, for allowing me to experience all three in one painful sitting.

Hangovers are terrible. I sympathize with students who are forced to attend class after a night of irresponsible drinking. Yes, it’s foolish to stay at the bar until 2 a.m. on a Tuesday, but let’s face it; college is about being immature and reckless before getting a real job. However, there is no excuse for not being able to throw on the crumpled, 3-month-unwashed, comfortable jeans slung over your computer chair. Instead, I see about 600 girls a day wearing Pink sweatpants. It doesn’t matter if the temperature is 95 or -5 degrees outside, people wear these sweatpants to class on a daily basis. You had time to put on a full face of cakey makeup but couldn’t button your jeans? Time management, people, time management. And these sweatpants aren’t cheap either; I’ve seen some pairs that sell for $50! I can buy awesome old man sweatpants at Goodwill for $2, and people spend 25 times that amount to look like the same pile of hung over crap. Unless you are going to be a gym teacher, learn how to make that hangover look appropriate ASAP…chances are your future employer won’t tolerate pink, rhinestone-covered sweatpants in the office.

Step Two, there is none cause once you’ve done that every redneck inbred in a 50 mile radius will be on your ass for a quick helping of the type of loving the government doesn’t want to know about.

Actually, Pink might just be shooting a scene from a remake of Back to The Future in which she plays Doc Brown.
