Designers William Calvert and Melanie Fraser Hart sought to answer the questions who embodies Sophia Loren today and what is she wearing? Independent, glamorous starlets who came to the designers’ minds were Penélope Cruz and Beyoncé. The collection featured tons of patterns, from polka dots to leopard to raindrop. With all the spots in the room, the collection would be perfect for Cruella De Vil’s fun, flirty twin sister.

Later this week, Spring 2012 will permeate the interwebs, making us go googly eyed over trends we won’t fully appreciate for another six months. Meanwhile, I stepped outside today to the first NY chill of the season. So before I get Spring Fever over New York Fashion Week, let’s chat about the looks we’ve been lusting over for Fall that we finally get to put to werq.

A lot of people were saying this Rodarte dress was to busy for Cannes, but I actually think it’s perfect for the occasion. Kirsten looks lovely in this look, as this style would be very unflattering to a lot of body types. I wish the hair was different and she didn’t look so stiff because everything else is truly lovely.

If you payed attention to the latest fall, spring and resort 2011 shows, you know patterns are making a comeback in a big way. Not one to lean towards minimalistic trends, I’m obviously ecstatic about the re-emergence of loud, in-your-face prints. Of all the designs to come down the runway, polka dots are my favorite. Ultra-classic and exceptionally versatile, polka dots can go from punk-rock to sweet 50s housewife to sexy pin-up girl with a quick cut and color change.
