When Joan Goodman moved from NY to Hawaii back in the 70′s, she didn’t know that the best friend she made there would become the inspiration and namesake of her future jewelry company. Pono means: In Perfect Order, Beneficial, Necessary (among other meanings), and having had a Pono necklace for approximately one week, I can tell you it is all of those things. While Joan runs her family’s button manufacturer, Bobbi Trim, where Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam, Thakoon and Vera Wang all get their buttons, she’s put her brand and resources to work creating sustainable and beautiful baubles. With Italian resins, natural wood, shell and horns, she makes would-be heavy jewelry feel light as air.
