Fuzz Pop: The Dum Dum Girls In Style

While on my random tune-ventures for my craving of pop-punk music and black lace thigh highs, I’ve recently come across a band to watch, The Dum Dum Girls. Known for both being bizarrely stylish and sweet sounding. So if your style is inspired for being a little on the edge, here’s the scoop of this all girl band that started off back in 2008.

Coast: California

The Women: Dee-Dee (vocals, guitar) Jules (guitar, vocals) Bambi (bass, vocals) Sandy (drums, vocals)

Dum Dum Style-ism: Some where along the lines of a modern day 60′s “It” girl meets a twisted Blair Waldorf gone rogue, and don’t forget to add a hint of an all black wardrobe. From their golden child collection of must-have tights, matched with the combination of lace, leather, collars, and wit, I bet you can’t help but love their almost wild child status. Not to mention, their songs top it all.

Her ovary pumping swag (her words, not ours) is captured above via two toned hair, gold star emblazoned eyelashes, finger tattoos, and a triple toned leopard print manicure. All bad ass you say? We thinks a not. Her Debbie Harry haircut, ski slope wardrobe, and constant cat references (Gucci Gucci ends with a meow and refers to catnip, kitty cats, and kitty litter), however vile they may be, make us think that she’ll grow out of her rapper phase and turn into one crazy cat lady. It was the meeting of pop royalty when Lady Gaga took in Britney Spears‘ Femme Fatale show in New Jersey’s Hotlantic City this weekend. The crowd went bananas when Spears opened the show announcing, “I have a very special guest tonight…Lady Gaga is here!” Gaga stood, waved, and threw out a heart symbol. Britney promptly hearted her back, birthing the next “high five” amongst tween girls and gays across the country. Mother Monster was later spotted double fisting drinks and hitting up the blackjack tables at the Borgata Resort, letting fans know that she too has the vice-succumbing potential of her popstar counterpart.

Milani has taken glitter to the next dimension: 3D Holographic. This color phenomenon is based on Holographic Image Technology that makes a very thin, bright, embossed metallic flake look like a rainbow. And it comes in a dazzling array of colors.

This party in a bottle is the culmination of all the Jewel FX nail polish Milani has created. The effect of it all somehow makes me want a shot o’ tequila.

Color Block Tip:

I took two hues of Milani One Coat Glitter and layered them like a thick French. Silver Dazzle on bottom, Purple Gleam on top. Razzle up good with any colors you desire – with this much glitter you can do no wrong.

Find all the Milani goods at your local drugstore. Now go get yourself some jazz hands.

After watching Britney Spears’ video for Hold It Against Me I was hesitant about her comeback. Every single doubt I had about the pop princess disappeared as soon as I laid eyes on here cover and photo spread for V Magazine.

V Magazine’s Spring issue is also labeled the “Star Power Issue” and it makes sense that Britney is the cover girl. Her star power has been going strong for a decade. She makes it know that “The bitch is back and better than ever” as she is quoted on the tri-fold cover. Famed photographer Mario Testino captures the Britney we all know and love in Britney Forever. Meet Joshua Kissi and Travis Gumbs, two dapper gentlemen from Harlem who are single handedly changing the perception of male urban fashion. On their immensely popular blog, Street Etiquette, the two get dressed in anything from crisp button downs with thin striped ties and khakis to leather jackets, cuffed jeans, and sock revealing saddle shoes, clearly and vividly photographing each stylish concept for their eager readers.

Aesthetic architects, the two make each outfit more appealing by offering close glimpses of embellished details – recent posts showcased bright orange embroideries on a maroon jacket, toggle buttons on a navy blue stand collar coat, and tassles on a pair of well polished deep amber penny loafers. Melrose Flea Market

Went to the Melrose Flea Market yesterday. It’s best to get up early and get in before 10, but being me I like to sleep in when it’s a weekend since I work and have school all week. By the time my girlfriend and I were ready to leave, it was 1, I was afraid we wouldn’t be able to bargain and get anything good to fill up closet space that we don’t have (btw LA students- they don’t have student discounts anymore.) Snagged a watermelon pop on my way in I spotting feathers and feathers of earrings lined up on a thin branch. All handmade by Jamar I believe. Just for 12 bucks I bought a great long brown piece with a hint of yellow on the very top to match the shirt I was wearing.

Also bought a great pair of boots, rings, and a jumper for summer.

Hope everyone had a great time at Coachella. See you there next year!

Spotted: spring colours…..woo!

Whoops…..we lied. In our last spotted post, we said we were going to post every Monday morning. Well, we thought about it, and I mean we REALLY thought about it, and we couldn’t make any of you wait. It would be too cruel.

But we digress. With the rain finally stopping its torment on the West Coast, spring colours have been popping up everywhere. We saw a lot of you draped in floral dresses and pastel colours. It was beautiful. What we really liked were the great accessories you paired with your outfits. Some of you had on simple jewelry, others wore awesome flats, and the rest had the killer ‘it’ bag.

At ShopGen HQ, we’ll be living in drapey t-shirts, flip flops, leggings, and dresses all spring and summer long. What is your spring and summer wardrobe? On another note, what don’t you like about spring/summer clothes? Tell us.

Robot Bobo: *stereo static* MAYDAY-MAYDAY! This is robot Bobo from planet
Arora Heap. Tokyo-on-steroids-cum-Wonderland has become a metropolitan
shithole *Yes even a robot can say shithole* no different from the
Earth. *background noises of an army of mindless robots!* The
robotic-japanese-anime-toon-doppelgangers-of-Louise-Brooks with their
neon-wigs, ca-ca-crazee embellishments and prints have lost their souls.
They have become mindless ROBOTS. The clothes are wearing them rather
than them wearing the clothes. THE CLOTHES ARE TAKINGGG OVERRRR… I’m
going to turn into a robotozoid soon. *BEEP BEEP BLOOP!* This is a SOS
message to anyone out there to sa-sa-sa-sa-sa saaveee (robotic glitch)
ourrr-rrrr souls-ssssssss!

(Robot Bobo’s brain core explodes into a bajillion pieces!)

(A wormhole rips through the fabric of the space-time continuum *I’ve
always wanted to say that* and a car pops out! It’s Marty McFly and his
gimmicky-time-travelling-car-thingum!)

Marty McFly: Thank God I was travelling the space-time continuum for no apparent
reason! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE ROBOT BOBO! You shouldn’t have come to this
god-forsaken place so imaginatively called planet Arora Heap! I know the
Manish Arora Fall/Winter 2010 collection was very razzle dazzle, but a
whole planet full of people wearing those clothes is disastrous! When
there’s too much ca-ca-crazee Arora pieces coming together, it causes a
chemical reaction in the clothes which mutates them into parasites which
take over the human mind, body and soul! Turning them into mindless
robots! (And I should totally know about fashion though I run around
in a tacky baseball jacket and boring denim jeans!)

Thank God Imogen Heap is still touring and hasn’t yet booked her seat on the
virgin galactic to come to this Tokyo-on-steroids-cum-Wonderland place!
Or else the world would’ve lost the soulful Electronic Sorceress!
Boo-hoo.

NOW THEN! The only way to undo all that you’ve done is to reverse time and prevent you from going to planet Arora Heap! Let’s go!

(Only then does Marty McFly realise that he was actually talking to himself,
since robot Bobo had exploded, but nonetheless picked up all of robot
Bobo’s pieces and dumped it into his time-travelling-car-thingum!)

(Car engine starts, and they shoot back through the space-time continuum and
travel backwards in time!)

(The metal pieces of robot Bobo slowly come together once more… and they soon turn into bone and
flesh and veins and blood and FAT *aww crap*)

(Robot Bobo slowly becomes Bobo Baroque once more!)

Bobo Baroque: Hey Marty McFly! Firstly, what a funky name you got! And I mean funkeh! *I can say it out all day
and just laugh at that name. HA HA HA!* And secondly, thanks for saving
my ass back there! Hey, rather than just preventing me from going to
planet Arora Heap, would you be so kind as to take me back all-the-way
to Milan Fashion Week 2010? As well as the
previous fashion weeks?

Marty McFly: Sure thing Bobo!

(They zoom through the space-time continuum and soon Bobo Baroque is
transported all the way back to Milan Fashion Week 2010!)

SO PEOPLE! What was the point of that totally-not-pointless story?

Well firstly, I’m very bored. And that was REALLYY entertaining saying out that whole dialogue with the voice-over
in real life! And I got to travel in the space-time
continuum~inuum~nuum~uum~um *it just keeps echoing in my head! Love it!*

And secondly, this marks my going-back-in-time to the fashion weeks BEFORE Paris Fashion Week to review some of the shows!

*HOO-RAH!*

To kick things off, we’ve got the eponymous Missoni, which is still being run by a member of the Missoni
family, Angela Missoni.

For Fall, Angela Missoni decided to go tribal. But rather than an old cliched tribal theme… Rather, hers was a
refreshing take on the tribal shebang imbued with the touch of
modernity, a tinge of sensuality and a drop of goth! Which means… MEGA
SEXY!

Don’t you just love that dyed bit?! Sumptuous hues!

This is my absolute favourite piece of the collection! Definitely something Tavi could and probably would don!

Disheveled, perfect-imperfect chic. That’s what the collection was about for me.
Things were unzipped, coats/rugs/carpets/whatever those thingums are
called weren’t put on properly, things went the wrong way around, there
were even giga-ginormic pins holding some of the pieces together (if you
look carefully). And yet, when you go into the details, it’s actually
such precise, meticulous dressing! With the knits draping just the right
way, in that perfect-imperfect manner, with slits here and there which
made it look oh-so-very sexy without being blatantly slutty, and such
tremendous detailing in the clothes! It was a collection that wasn’t
technically orthodox or perfect, but rather had an appreciation for
things that weren’t all that perfect, making it all the more perfect.
You know what I mean? Sort of like Rodarte actually, without trying too
hard with all the draping and the embellishments and the prints.

But what I really LOVE *and I don’t use this word lightly here* about this collection, is that it made use of knits and heavy
fabrics… Things I usually dislike… casting them aside as nanny
fabrics… Unflattering and dull. But this collection! Oh ho ho! Did it
make me open my eyes or what! Okay sure, Tavi’s experimentation with
knits and wools and whatnot was interesting, but this collection was
farrrrrr moreeeee intriguing! It made knits fun and modern, and actually
very VERY sexy. Without making it feel contrived or forced in anyway
actually. Rather than changing the knits (in terms of the material), or
desperately wrapping it round the body to make it feel like body-con,
Angela Missoni manipulated the knits, just the way they were, to drape
perfectly round the body. It wasn’t a matter of making it look/feel like
skin-tight TIGHTS, or skinny jeans, or disgusting contraptions like
that… Rather this was a masterful play on sexuality and sensuality
with one of the most mundane materials (or used to be); by showing a
little and never too much!

And of course, her psychedelic patchworks had a huge part to play in winning my favour for the knits!

Overall, this collection balanced disheveled, nonchalant chic with amazing detailing (a plethora of colours, patterns and fabrics)
without making it feel gimmicky or desperate at all. And I think because
it was executed with such finesse, the clothes don’t wear the people,
but rather the people wear the clothes. Even in the case of the
psychedelic patchwork pieces!

Hmm… Tribal, folk-ish, yet modern, dark and sensual… It seems to me like we’ve finally found the perfect
pieces for Imogen Heap don’t you think?

P.S While writing this blog post, it actually crossed over from Thursday (1st April) to Friday (2nd April) OFFICIALLY
HERALDING MY BIRTHDAY! So happy birthday to me! And I’ve got a

The designer, who succeeded Alexander McQueen as creative director at Givenchy and then left Paris in 2004, is offering Italian-made suede ankle boots with zippers and tough chic knee-length shearling lined boots that all feature a heel that mirrors the haunch of a horse.

“Designing a shoe collection was a natural progression for me,” said Macdonald. “The Julien Macdonald woman has definitely needed an equally strong, sexy shoe. Our signature heel shape, resembling a horse’s leg, befitted so well the equestrian theme of the collection.”

Retailers of the line, which starts at $1,235 for the Peredita sandal, include Net-A-Porter and Joyce in Hong Kong.

Clog Mania
The international success of funky clog brand Swedish Hasbeens is helping the trend explode in Europe. Swedish clog company Moheda Toffeln, which showed at last week’s GDS, is hoping to reap the benefits. “With its marketing, Swedish Hasbeens has really helped to make clogs popular,” said Peter Reinholdson, whose family founded the company back in 1973. At the show, Moheda Toffeln unveiled the classic clog as well as colorful high-heeled nubuck versions, which are priced from $60. The company is already one of Sweden’s leading clog companies, exporting to Asia, Australia and the U.S., where it supplies Cape Clogs.

That’s a hot strappy little number…….I like it! Clogs are certainly “making their presence known,” as I’ve seen many a variation lately. I like them with jeans, a maxi or denim dress, but they must be “jazzy!”

Her graduate collection along with a few new styles were on display before the Fashion East show started down in the vaults at Somerset House and I'm hoping the wooden styles in particular will make it to some shop floor or another. Structural shoes that are merely editorial props are a painful affair, which is why I got extra happy when Atalanta Weller had ventured into retailable shoes. Me thinks that Chau Har Lee has a slightly easier task on her hand transferring her sculptural, laser-cut visions into functional shoes because that was her intention from the very beginning when she embarked on her graduate collection

inspired by the international character PUCCA during New York Fashion Week,
Warner Bros. Consumer Products and VOOZ Co., Ltd. hosted a dazzling West Coast
launch event at Curve Boutique located on Los Angeles’ chic Robertson Blvd.
The PUCCA capsule collection, making its much-anticipated U.S. debut this
month, is based on the character from South Korea who has gained wild
popularity in Europe and Asia.

Attracting a host of Hollywood’s hottest celebrities and “fashionistas,” the
red-carpet soirée was attended by actresses Amy Smart and Jessica Lowndes,
actor Jack Huston, Korean actress Lee Da Hae, Bijou Phillips and Swedish indie-pop
