Keep Summer Alive With Our Favorite End-of-Season Sales

Edited by

The only positive point about summer coming to an end is the string of fabulous end-of-season sales all around the city and online. Because NYC summers usually last well into September, we’re all feeling a wardrobe refresher is needed to layer with our lighter fall pieces, just in time for Fashion Week. Now is the time to buy, but we understand the sale racks can be intimidating. Here are the FashionIndie editors’ picks for favorite end-of-season sales - we scoured the racks so you don’t have to.

Vogue Italia Goes Back to Black

Edited by

Thank God, i.e. Condé Nast, for Franca Sozzani. The Rapunzel-hair’d editrix of Vogue Italia gifts us another editorial featuring all models of color. Gaye McDonald, Lili Taylor, Ubah Hassan, Jae Childs, Ariel Meredith, R’el Dade, Jeneil Williams, Cici Ali, Jasmine Tookes and Kelly Moreira star in “Tribute to Black Beauties”  with featured players: giant Afros, limbs for days and a heaping helping of sass. Ellen von Unwerth shoots and Giulio Martinelli scores with Prada, Missoni and Ports 1961.

RUNWAY: Ports 1961 Spring/Summer 2011

RUNWAY: Ports 1961 Spring/Summer 2011

I have to be honest and say that the Spring/Summer 2011 Ports 1961 collection, under the direction of Fiona Cibani, was a bit of a disappointment. Not only were most of the pieces missing the Ports aesthetic (like the above trench) that we know and love, but they were also not at all distinct, and can easily be put on a rack with multiple other designer pieces and get lost in the shuffle.

I do have to applaud the accessories, from the necklaces, to the rings and shoes, everything was a total must have!

And of course, there were those few pieces which would have made Tia proud.

RUNWAY: Ports 1961 Fall/Winter 2010

RUNWAY: Ports 1961 Fall/Winter 2010

I always look forward to Ports 1961, the shapes of the garments are always intriguing, and front row is always gossip worthy. Like this afternoon, when I noticed that Whitney Port and her friend Roxy sat second row, while Olivia Polermo sat in front next to Elle Mag’s Joe Zee. Also in front row, veteran Lauren Ezersky, Mister Micky, Nitro:litious, and many others. There was also a moment of silence honoring Alexander McQueen before the show began.

Check out a gallery of the collection after the jump…
