Designer Daily: Gretchen Jones

Edited by

Made with organic and eco-conscious materials and produced entirely in NYC’s Garment Center, Gretchen Jones is thinking about the planet when designing her pretty things. She’s also thinking about that 70s romanticism and rural Western America, where she grew up. For those who stopped watching, she’s also the Project Runway season 8 winner. And she’s making it work with a good-looking and good-for-the-world Fall 2012 collection.

NBC’s “Fashion Star” Will Give Away $6 Mil Contract with Macy’s, Saks and H&M

Edited by

There is no dearth of fashion reality shows on television with the pioneering Project Runway immediately coming to mind. But with nine seasons and a spin off under its belt, PJ Runway hasn’t necessarily set the fashion world ablaze. It’s doubtful NBC’s Fashion Star will be any different, but with a $6 million contract with Macy’s, Saks Fifth Ave and H&M at stake, its contestants will at least have something to show for their efforts besides an air kiss from Heidi Klum and claw marks from Nina Garcia.

Look Inside the Dream Closet of Celebrities, the Best Dressed & Barbie

Edited by

Last night I got to enter the magical world that is Barbie’s Dream Closet. There was an astounding amount of pointed pink pumps and Barbie-worthy models a flight up in their dream houses. We got to play in Barbie’s virtual Dream Closet and dress ourselves by tapping the air to the right and left on the my-size screened Kinect. I took to roving the room in search of the best dressed and the most famous, and asked them what constitues their dream closet.

INTERVIEW: Nina Cortes on Her Jewelry Line & Project Accessory

Edited by

Nina Cortes is the darling designer of her namesake jewelry line Nina Loren who you may recognize from the Project Runway spin-off Project Accessory. Nina was a force to be reckoned with as she made it all the way to the final two. Nina’s sparkling Swarovski designs caught the eyes of audiences and judges from day one with a gorgeous, wearable necklace crafted from recycled pieces. Needless to say, she won that challenge and continues to gain interest with her elegantly-edgy pieces. We caught up with the accessory guru to get to know her better off-screen, and she is just as sweet and funny as on the show.

BOOKCLUBBIN’ : Tim Gunn’s A Guide to Quality, Taste & Style

Edited by

For Christmas this year, Santa slipped down my chimney Tim Gunn‘s handy dandy tome on all things classy, A Guide to Quality, Taste & Style. Perhaps the big man was trying to tell me something, but I nonetheless was eager to explore what words of dry wit and wisdom Ms. Gunn had to share with me. Taking a break from making his usual acerbic asides and berating the brash hopefuls of Project Runway – with a little help from Parsons colleague and co-writer Kate Moloney – Gunn tells you how to get the most out of your wardrobe and, of course, how to “make it work.”

Isaac Mizrahi, Georgina Chapman and Angela Lindvall Hosting Project Runway All Stars

Edited by

Just when you thought it was safe to turn on your TV, Project Runway has spawned a secondary series, Project Runway All Stars. While the 10th season of boring, regular PJ Runway starts in June with Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn stepping into their well-worn shoes, PJ Runway All Stars debuts January 5 with new but fashionably familiar faces.

A New Kind of Vajazzling

Edited by

In case your lube* wasn’t blingy enough, now it can be thanks to Project Runway  alum Chris March (who may be best remembered for a collection of human hair and flair for dramatics of theatrical proportions and/or his current Bravo show, Mad Fashion). He’s designed a custom Vaseline jar encrusted with 50 Swarovski crystals. We call it: Vajazzline.

Vogue Goes all Project Runway with a Car Part Design Challenge

Edited by

Some people will do anything to get into Vogue. Those people are wise. Like shoe designer Alejandro Ingelmo, who accepted Vogue‘s challenge to create a pair of wedges out of car parts. We’re not talking about parts from, say, a beat up ol’ El Camino, no no. These parts come from the new Lexus CT Hybrid, which in and of itself is 90% recyclable. Watch the magic happen.
