Families are spending between $1000 to $2000 on prom this year, which is a lot of money to look like a cheap slut and get knocked up in the back of a Chevy Camaro.

Prom is around the corner, and I don’t know about you, but I’m on the prowl for the perfect dress! This Proenza dress is from Rent The Runway and is a great contender for Prom. A bustier top flatters a small waist and showcases shoulders. A full, flirty skirt makes this style a great choice for a night of dancing.

The worst prom dress ever
In this edition of Crimes of Fashion Past we have Molly Ringwald’s prom dress from the 80′s rom-com Pretty in Pink. Pretty in Pink is probably my favorite film of 1980′s-it’s has all my favorite Brat Packers Ringwald, McCarthy, Cryer! Growing up I clung to this film because it had one of the few characters who aspired to be in fashion. Unlike today, where every character is a handbag designer, or an assistant to a fashion editor, or a sex columnist with unrealistic designer connections.
Before Blossom, before Mary-Kate, there was Andie Walsh.
As much as I loved all the way everyone in the film dressed (Andie and Duckie I’m looking at you), the ending of the film with was such a let down. For those of you who haven’t seen it, I’ll give you the Cliff-notes: After being ditched by the popular guy Blaine (Andrew McCarthy), Andie (Molly Ringwald) exacts her revenge by going to prom alone. There’s a whole montage of her designing and sewing her own prom dress. Only to reveal the worst prom dress of the 1980′s.
The dress before
The dress after
How did she end up with this piece of shit? She destroyed a perfectly good 1960′s prom dress to make a pink-polka-dot tent with a doily attached to it. No wonder she had to go to prom with Duckie. Only a man who wears a western-tie to prom would be seen with her failed home-ec project.
