Curiosity killed the cat, or so they say, but it didn’t kill  Rachel Antonoff. The designer used crime-solving sleuths like Nancy Drew as inspiration for her Fall 2010 collection.

Besides the “Nancy Turtleneck,” the  line features a “Hitchcock Dress” (be careful around birds) and “Keaton pants” that are high-waisted.

On NylonMag.com, Antonoff is quoted as saying, “The thing they [female detectives] have in common is that they’re just regular girls who were curious. That kind of curiosity and the sense that there could be something more lurking behind every day…I love that. ” 

These pieces are sure to satisfy any and all crime-fighting fantasies.

Rachel Antonoff and Alia Shawkat bring us the ultimate Teen Witch tribute.

I can’t state enough how much we love Rachel Antonoff at The Fashionably Independent. The designer was one of our choices for our legendary Brooklyn Bridge fashion show and her collection of girly must have’s always make our must list. Factor in a tribute to Teen Witch, Alia Shawkat, and amazingly horrible rapping and you’ve got a recipe for pure joy.

There isn’t a woman out there who can’t relate to Rachel Antonoff’s Spring 2010 collection. Cozy, pastel colors. Florals. Jumpers. Essentially, it’s like reliving your childhood, paper-doll style, in one concise collection! Set in a Lower East Side theater, Antonoff succeeded at walking us through the whimsy and cutesy nature of little girls (and not to mention the dark side of the Disenchanted forest!) with some simple, yet thematically flawless blouses, dresses, pants and jumpers.

Julia Frakes, Sarah Sophie Flicker and Alia Shawkat all play the perfect stand-ins for models in Rachel Antonoff’s lookbook for her Fall 2009 collection. Julia Frakes spent most of fashion week front row with Paper Mag’s Mr.Mickey, Sarah Sophie Flicker has a web 2.0 ready last name and is an artist with a talent for getting camera ready, and Alia Shawkat is about to star in the greatest movie inspired by a television show of all time, Arrested Development!!!! Yeah, Rachel knows how to pick them.

We’re a bit biased on the whole Mooka Kinney split since we had one half of the divorced design duo, Rachel Antonoff, participate in Fashion Indie Week Brooklyn this year, but when we heard that Alison Lewis was set to hit Barneys we knew you’d want to know. 

I guess this would be the real life equivalent of seeing your ex move on way before you, but Lewis’ entire Spring 09 was picked up by Barneys and her duds, a mix of girly and vintage-inspired pieces, are already getting praised by the likes of Fashionista’s editors. After checking out her her collection on the Lewis site, I’m fairly sure that Lewis has a strong enough brand to compete with the normal Barneys offerings, I just hope she maintains the same following she had back in the MK days.

Many indie girls shed a tear when indie label Mooka Kinney disbanded. But indie-girls have no fear, one-half of the design duo Rachel Antonoff has started her own label and asked her famous friends to model. Take a peek at Antonoff’s lookbook featuring Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat and A-lister Scarlett Johansson. Expect loads of vintage silhouettes and lots of details.

The girls from Mooka Kinney have reportedly split. The girls (Rachel Antonoff and Alison Lewis) met fatefully when Alison rented a room in Rachel’s west village apartment, they then discovered a shared love for haunting local vintage stores and the empire-waisted, whimsical wardrobes of their childhoods.

I’m wondering what the next collection will look like since the girls were bffs and even posed in all the promo ads together. But rumor is that Alison is teaming up with a jewelry designer for her next fashion venture.
