The Material Girl line has a vintage feel to it — does your style come from a similar place?
Definitely. I think I take my style from all walks of life, and all generations and decades of life as well. I love mixing ’50s with ’80s and classic with punk. And i think that’s what this line embodies. It allows you to rework the same pieces in different ways so people don’t realize that you’ve worn it before. I mean, I wear the same thing all the time — if I’m at home, I’m in sweatpants. I don’t care. But when you go out, you want something that’s versatile.

What excites you the most about being the face of Material Girl?
To have Madonna ask you to be the face of her brand, that’s the coolest thing ever. As a young girl who grew up idolizing her and thinking that she was the be-all and end-all of how women should be, being the face of Material Girl is the greatest honor I’ve ever had.

You’re a member of the Fashion Police, but what’s the worst fashion faux pas that you’ve personally committed?
Sweat stains on clothes! I’ll never be one of these girls who could walk into anything and say, ‘I can do this!’ I always get nervous. I always get scared. I’m even nervous about judging these girls for this contest! You never want to disappoint, you never want to say that wrong thing. I get nervous and then I start sweating. People literally interview me on the red carpet and I’m like dabbing my top lip, trying to be subtle about it. I’m like oh my God, get me out!

So do you get nervous when you do a taping of Fashion Police?
No, because Joan is just so funny! We’re like a family now. It’s mainly a comedy show based on fashion and it’s one of those things where you have to have a sense of humor about yourself.

Ogilvy & Mather and Cool Hunting created 30 short videos, each 20 to 90 seconds long, profiling members of the Gap 1969 denim studio in Los Angeles, as well as going behind the scenes of the design and manufacturing process.

“Increasingly, people want to know the stories behind the products — who’s designing it, where it comes from,” said Seth Farbman, Gap’s global chief marketing officer. “We recognize that we have to be more open. We had not done enough storytelling about what was new and different at the Gap.”

The videos debut this week at Cool Hunting and Refinery29 followed by sponsored content next week on DailyCandy, FabSugar, Hulu, Pandora and Gap’s Facebook page among other sites.

The print ads will star “real-ish” [read: a half-inch short of model] people in Gap 1969 pants and will run in the September issues of seemingly every mag including Vogue, Elle, Glamour, Nylon, Details, GQ, Rolling Stone, Marie Claire and ESPN. [WWD]

-  After killing an intruder with a pink .38-caliber pistol, beauty queen Meghan Brown threw on some lingerie for a steamy photoshoot. Why? “I wanted to make some money. I wanted to capitalize on this. - Chris Brown is “disappointed” in his actions after busting a window at Good Morning America‘s studios earlier this week after host Robin Roberts asked him about that little thing with Rihanna. Geez, you savagely beat someone up, get a restraining order against you and become a social pariah, and suddenly you can’t even throw a chair out of a window in peace. [The Daily Beast]

- And in celebration of Twitter‘s 5th anniversary (#OMG), Refinery29 has blessed us with their list of the 10 Most Annoying Types of Fashion Twitterers. Some say the best way to get over a hangover is to keep on imbibing, and at Kittichai, you can do that and have an Asian-style brunch that’s mos def not run-of-the-mill (we love the Kaffir lime pancake souffle). Plus, there’s unlimited blood-orange mimosas, lychee bellinis, or Bloody Marys for the low, low price of $25.

#2 Seersucker

There’s nothing like some fried goodness to soak up the remnants of a crazy night. If that sounds familiar, then new Brooklyn restaurant Seersucker has you covered and then some. As the name suggests, the menu is full of all kinds of yummies from below the Mason-Dixon (chef Robert Newton hails from Arkansas), including grits, catfish po’ boys, and fried chicken livers.

#3 Tacombi

For a tried-and-true hangover cure, Tacombi’s street-style tacos are sure to fit the bill. Housed in a 2,100-square-foot garage, owner Dario Wolos (a native of Monterrey, Mexico) dishes out amazing breakfast tacos, along with delicacies like agave-glazed pork belly, Barbacoa short rib and tongue, and Achiote-rubbed chicken from a vintage VW van (there’s coffee too!). The only thing that could possibly make you feel better than these tacos is a trip to Playa del Carmen itself.

#4 The Mark Restaurant

If you’re ready to 2011 with a lil’ splurge, a luxurious brunch at The Mark (Jean Georges Vongerichten’s latest) will ensure you enter the year in style. Indulge in caviar with warm blini, or go traditional with Eggs Benedict—in The Mark’s leisurely settings, you’ll definitely forget about those throbbing temples and welcome the year auspiciously—nothing says new you than a 4-star chef’s newest restaurant.

#5 The Carlyle

The Carlyle Restaurant at the posh Carlyle Hotel is the perfect choice to live out any of your Gossip Girl fantasies. Say hello to 2011 with a bit of panache and partake in the opulent menu—featuring lobster omelets, eggs benedict, and Carpegna prosciutto with cantaloupe and balsamic reduction—while you lavish in the dining room’s sumptuous surroundings—we can’t think of a more decadent start to the year!

#6 Egg

Egg is usually on everyone’s brunch list—and for good reason, it’s the place to be if you’re craving a fresh, down-home breakfast to cure those alcohol-induced blues. It’s truly an easy go-to for all tasty brunch things. Not so easy, however, are the perpetual lines. So, make sure to hydrate before you go, because we’re pretty sure the half of Williamsburg that’s up in time for brunch will have the same idea.

Well, my path to blog “stardom” was a bit different. I won’t get into specifics but I started off as the vainglorious 20-something with a shopping habit, then pretty much veered off into a coked up romp through Brooklyn with hipsters of indeterminate gender, months of unemployment, hooking on a few corners, dating Charlie Sheen, then finally tricking Fashion Indie into believing that I actually know what I’m talking about.
