They might not be quite as enthralling as past seasons, but Alexander Wang’s Resort 2010 footwear collection still has me drooling a little bit! Carrying his distinct, protruding heel into the future, Wang has a pair of desert-boot oxfords, suede, gladiator heels and leather, riveted gladiators in store for us. The oxfords are a mere version of his leather oxfords out this season, but those gladiators, yeah, those need to be in my life and on my feet STAT.

Brit It Girl Pixie Geldof jumps on the recent wig trend to model Giles resort collection. The collection mixes Raggedy Ann with 50′s housewife. Love the pink accents and flashy red wig which help to modernize the look.

This collection makes me ache to go on a vacation in the Far East: the bags allow for hand’s free ease, the loose cut of the fabric would be so cool and comfortable, and the muted colors would help one not stand out of a crowd and look like a total tourist. I would really like to have some kind of job someday where I get like a month off in the summer to go and sort of roam the earth. I have a terrible sort of wanderlust right now, especially being trapped in a cube all day long, when all I really want to do is hightail it across the globe to parts unknown in comfortably draped yet unbelievably fabulous travelin’ clothes. Enter Yigal Azrouel and his delicious Resort 2010 collection for us modern nomads at heart.

Because as much as I love me a gorgeous gown, I am pants girl to my very core, and how can you travel comfortably in skirts anyway? No no, give me that effortless, sleeveless, and incredibly chic grey jumpsuit over any sundress or caftan. Travel dressing is all about layers of course, because you never know what kind of weather you might encounter, and Azrouel’s aesthetic is all about the comfort and easy style of perfectly draped layers, be they belted and flared over some skinny jeans or loose and flowy with a structured cowl, the better to catch a cool breeze with. Even with seemingly tougher materials, strict leather and stern denim, by patchworking them together somehow they take on a new sensibility, a more relaxed quality and that incredible, perfect achievement of style, substance, and above all else, comfort.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN Rachel Roy Resort 2010

So, I guess I can’t keep ignoring Resort collections any longer, as weird as they are. This might mean I’ll have to pay attention to Pre-Fall now, too, as odd as those are as well. Whatever–2010 has brought about a batch of truly viable Resort collections, and how do I kick off a round of Runway Rundowns for any season? With Rachel Roy, of course.

Probably the one thing I love the most about Roy’s collections is her constantly evolving, yet somehow singularly individual aesthetic. Minus the Childlike Empress headgear, this resort collection felt less like something you’d wear on the sundeck of your yacht (which is why I’m loathe to discuss so many Resort collections, because they seem to reinforce that stale standard that fashion is strictly for rich white women) and more like light, fresh summer dressing for the Young Professional of Tomorrowland. And y’all already know how I feel about hot professional dressing and fashion futurism, so you know I’m all about this collection.
