Dive Into a World of Fantasy & Beauty With Lolli Popitt

Edited by

Designer Amanda Elle wasn’t originally the type of girl who dreamt of becoming a fashion designer. But in 2009, Amanda launched a couture-inspired clothing label and then jewelry brand in New York City. Born, a natural artist, attending a specialized high school for the arts as well as NYU Steinhardt’s studio arts program, studying drawing, photography & sculpture, she brought her creative flare to the fashion world. From experimenting with her artistic talents, she created Lolli Popitt – a tastefully provocative and fantastically girlie line which brings you the joy of childhood dress-up in the realm of high fashion — and jewelry line Crystal Knuckles which already has loyal fans like Uma Thurman and Ke$ha. I was able to stop by Lolli Land, her Chelsea design studio, and talk to Amanda about the labels & her transcendence from sculptor to designer, what inspires her and what she has in store for Lolli Poppitt and Crystal Knuckles.

SHOP All Saints: Jacqueline Ring, $40

Edited by

SHOP All Saints: Jacqueline Ring, $40 I’m a bit of a metal fiend, so when I saw this clever thimble inspired All Saints ring, I simply had to share it! Made from oxidized metal and zinc, the ring is a nice bold piece that easily balances out the typically delicate women’s jewelry! Great ring, even better price!

Turn Me On Designs (or TMOD) masters the contrast between funky and functional. The new collection, ‘Poetry in Braille’ is a collaborative effort with Andy Uprock. The collection features rings, necklaces, and rings on necklaces, in a creative light, using shadows to convey emotions, as shown in the above black and white images.

TMOD is also socially aware, they donate  a percentage of sales to Vision Australia.

Crimes of Fashion Past: Slave?? Bracelets

Crimes of Fashion Past: Slave?? Bracelets

I was wondering what to even call these contraptions, so I typed “bracelet chain ring” into the Google search bar. A lovey photo came up that describes visually the horrendous crime I was trying to bust. And the Web site called it a “slave bracelet,” so I guess I’ll play along.

This fashion statement was gross and terrible. It looks like a witch who got into heavy metal, stopped showering and started reading Tarot cards to kids in trench coats at the local Gothic bar. I would almost rather wear a chain attaching my nose ring to my ear, if it meant my face wouldn’t accidentally get torn apart in the subway. Rings and bracelets are two different things; believe it or not, that’s why they’re usually separated. These are noisy when shaking hands, get caught on clothing and just look ridiculous. Halloween=Okay. Joke=Acceptable. Trying to be trendy=Leave it in the…what era was this from again??
