I feel new talent rising. With proportions that reform the body, Munsoo Kwon‘s menswear has a sense of humor with strict attention to detail. These are basics that will change the look of an entire outfit without overpowering. He has apprenticed under Helmut Lang, Robert Geller and Thom Browne, and his philosophy aligns. Now after 5 seasons of designing for Andrew Buckler, Munsoo Kwon is stepping into the light. His Fall 2012 collection is upon us already, getting a jump on the season. Diane von Furstenberg descended from the heavens in a gilded chariot drawn by 7 wrap-dress-attired muses last night to deliver the nominees for the 2011 Council of Fashion Designers of America Fashion Awards. Among this year’s honorees, Lady Gaga will be recognized for the Fashion Icon award and Marc Jacobs will receive the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. But he’ll have to compete against Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Womenswear Designer of the Year.
