Nature took its course on the runways from New York to Paris. Bushy brows and bare faces wiped the palette clean. Makeup was used sparingly; a vivd lip here, a midnight eye there. They were brought forth singularly. And the effect breathes refreshingly. Learn how to get the looks, and see which makeup artists put what products on which designers’ runways.

Fair ladies, embrace your Nordic tendencies that render you positively innocent when the makeup goes away. Use a pale pink that ebbs nude and a lengthening mascara.

To get the Dolce & Gabbana look, mix a touch of their two

Purity Pink

What prevailed throughout all of Fashion Week culminated on the crystal cased Chanel runway with embroidered brows by the famed atelier de broderie, Lesage.

If you don't have overgrown eyebrows, or just have fair hair, try like Pat McGrath did at Alexander Wang to give a boyish straight shape by brushing on dark eye shadow.

You could also try an eyebrow palette with angled brushes. The

Raised Brows

Cold and angular eyes stared runways down to the chill of midnight.

Cool Night Eyes

Wing tips take flight again in both multiple lines like at Altuzarra, and with an electric blue shock like at Anna Sui.

To get Pat McGrath's look for Anna Sui, you're going to use a liquid eyeliner and flick it up at the end. Draw the outline and fill it in using

Wingin' It

Like in Rick Owen's show "Offset the Scary", the brightest red will make a look iconic.

Try a look-at-me lip of your own:

Bursting Red Lips

Burning in the fiery shadows of your lids is an orange or red taking up the whole space. You need to span big or else it runs the risk of looking like you've been crying. Not chic. And keep the rest of the face clean, obviously. Go big or go home in tears.

Peter Phillips used several variations of orange at Dries Van Noten. From Make Up For Ever, he used no. 66, a mustard and no. 78, a rusty mandarin. Though those are both discontinued, you can try his third shadow,

Fiery Shadows

This look says power bitch in the sweetest way possible.

How to get it: Spray the brush with hairspray and brush it back. DVF's hair stylist Orlando Pia used

Deep Sleek Side

Adding a dab of white to your cornea brightens the whole eye and makes them look bigger.

Try some Sex to get the look. It's hot.

White Inner Eye

Hot mess dream trend! This look encourages us to fall asleep with our makeup on, roll outta bed and rock the refined raccoon eye. Marc Jacobs approves twice.

Smudged Down

Blackberries haven't gotten this much attention since iPhones hit Verizon. Unfortunately for the smartphone-makers, we're talking color. Perhaps it's the Rooney Mara effect, but oxblood-burgundy lips were everywhere.

On the Gucci runway, Pat McGrath used

Vampy Lips

The top runway hair trends of Fall 2011 were wielded by the hair stylist superstars of Windle and Moodie. This London based salon by Paul Windle and Neil Moodie is truly run by masters. Paul Windle was the principal of the Vidal Sassoon schools back in the 80s, and left in ’88 to open his own Salon. His prominence grew in the 90s in editorial and on the runway, styling a good number of Vogue covers. He’s also the reason his swear-by products Bumble and Bumble got so popular in the UK. If you’re in Londontown, you may even snag a coveted appointment for a haircut by Windle himself. Neil Moodie took a moment to shows us how to get the season’s coolest hair. From the tough ponied tomboy girlfriend to the teased, hurried and extreme hair of the Fall ’11 runways, Moodie takes you step by step here.

Neil Moodie engineered the “tough pony” for the BCBG Max Azria show here in NY, but it was also seen at Rochas and Calvin Klein. This self-wrapped pony is easy to do yourself.

We have entered into day 5 of Paris Fashion Week, and it’s not difficult to see why it’s the best of the four. Looking at the beauty trends during this halfway point, we’ve noticed an interesting balance of bold and minimalistic. Big, complex hairstyles took the stage just as often as the sleek and token, sending a message about the collections themselves. Were designers looking to create beauty trends alongside their lines, or did they want beauty to take a backseat and let fashion take the stage? These four hairstyles straight from the Paris runways are divided in aesthetic – which do you prefer?

There was so much going on with the hair at Rick Owens, it's difficult to pick a starting point. Slicked back into a perfect bun, elegance was toyed-with when the very front section of hair was left out of the updo. Twisted into a pompadour-esque structure and swept back to resemble one being caught in a windstorm, the 'do was worthy to pass through his "gateway to heaven."

The larger-than-life French twist beehives aren't defying gravity as much as your think. Ponytails were "teased to death" by hairstylist Eugene Souleiman and lacquered back with copious amounts of hairspray. Reminiscent of Tim Burton's film "Mars Attacks," the updo brings eerie alien skulls to mind.

The backstage beauty at Dries Van Noten wasn't trying to make a statement but rather create a uniform neutrality that would let the clothes shine. Hairstylist Paul Hanlon added extensions to the models' natural hair, created deep side parts and secured everything into a handsome low ponytail with a piece of hair wrapped around the elastic. The outcome was simple and lovely in its minimalism.

You can take the girl out of Balmain, but you can't take Balmain out of the girl. Hairstylist Sam McKnight fully understood this conviction while working with locks backstage, keeping things natural and sexy. A smoothed-back ponytail sat slightly higher on the crown than the label's fall version, making it vaguely more sophisticated too.

While she is no longer the editrice of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld is still turning it out, now on her own terms. In her latest project, she styled the Barneys lookbook, gathering a collection of werqing women that move her, and dressed them in that way that made French Vogue so epic. Here, we’ve taken five of our favorite looks and (though we’d love to go to Barneys for them, a. these pieces are not available online, and b. pshh we wish) found their essences for less.

Izabel Goulart, a Brazilian model whom Carine discovered at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, turns it in a Mugler top.

For a cut-out zig, zag into this ribboned and mesh-topped tunic from Topshop for $66.

For the zag on a long sleeve shirt, check out what Karl Lagerfeld did for Macy’s for $99. Pair it with Tom Ford sunglasses for a killer downtown look.

Olivier Theyskens is one of the most singular designers in fashion today. His clothes are brooding, dramatic, poetic and above all beautiful, much like the designer himself. Shortly after dropping out of Belgium’s La Cambre Art Academy, one of his gowns ended up on Madonna‘s mannish back at the 1998 Oscars, thus propelling him to stardom. Documenting Theyskens road from precocious art star to his four seasons at Rochas and finally his brilliant but short-lived tenure at Nina Ricci was photographer Julien Claessens, whose haunting photos add another dimension to Theyskens sartorial creations and form the backbone for The Other Side of the Picture (Assouline, 2010).

In the book’s introduction, Sally Singer, editor of T Magazine, is quick to point out that this is not your typical behind the curtains tome. That’s owed primarily to the fact that Julien Claessens is not a fashion photographer. In fact he admits that he doesn’t really understand fashion, but he understands his friend Olivier’s work.

So it’s no surprise that his photos aren’t perfectly-posed, editorial-ready snapshots, but abstract portraits that offer a glimpse into a world of extremes: extreme beauty, extreme bodies and an almost otherworldly charm. The star of these portraits, however, are still Theyskens minutely-crafted work.

Like malleable sculptures, Theyskens clothes wrap and drape themselves over the skeletal frames of Lily Donaldson, Hilary Rhoda, Gemma Ward, Olga Sherer, Lara Stone, Tanya Dziahileva, Catherine McNeil and Sasha Pivovarova, lending a strength, elegance and sophistication otherwise at odds with their prepubescent fragility.

The Other Side of the Picture chronicles Theyskens career chronologically, ending before he began his newest phase at Theory, but Nina Ricci’s Fall/Winter ’09 collection is a fitting denouement, both for the book and for Theyskens time at the brand. That particular collection is the peak of Theyskens craft and a comforting reminder that talent like his shall and will not be wasted. Also, I’m still not over these tranny heels:

Julien Claessens, without understanding fashion, is able to completely grasp the work of Olivier Theyskens. As Claessens says about his friend’s work, “There’s something here that is part of my universe.” His clothes speak, live and breathe through Claessens’ photos because Theyskens intended them to speak, live and breathe on the women he dresses. Claessens and Theyskens simply speak the same language.

What owning this book says about you: You’re a serious-minded fashionista who admires Olivier’s dark aesthetic and/or his dark hotness.

What your dinner guests will say upon seeing this book on your coffee table: “Oh, wow, someone’s pretentious. And fabulous.”

How this book will make your fashion brain grow: Though you’re not likely to gain much in the way of knowledge from The Other Side of the Picture, you’re heart will swell at its beauty.

If you like this, you’ll love: Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty. The book to the Met exhibit is on sale — having had a quick look at it this morning we can definitely say it is worth the 30 bucks (plus free shipping, y’all!)
