To my delight, I saw photos of Leighton Meester wearing my favorite dress from the Louis Vuitton spring 2011 collection. How does she match up to the runway look? Time for judgment and the Red Carpet Report Card.

This beaded, flapper-era dress from the Louis Vuitton Spring 2011 collection received my highest praises. No only did Leighton wear perhaps my favorite frock from this season, she looked amazing in it. Let’s take a look at the runway shot:

Credit: Style.com

Obviously, model Christina Kruse is taller than Leighton, so the dress hits her above the ankles. This could also be an illusion because she’s walking, and the weight of the beads brings the dress up with her movements. I think this dress works for Leighton‘s petite figure quite nicely.

Leighton‘s hair and makeup is softer than it was on the runway, and I think she made a good choice, avoiding the possibility of looking too costume-y. I love the blue Roger Vivier satin sandals she chose, and the Louis Vuitton bag, also from the spring 2011 collection, is cute. I think a solid bag would have been chicer, but the flowers go along with Leighton‘s bold sense of style, so I respect her choice. Grade?

A

Yes! I knew she could wear something fun and fabulous and look beyond amazing on the red carpet.

LINK LOVE: <a

Honestly, what do these detractors want? The Légion d’honneur may have been instituted in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte as the highest honour the Republic could bestow. It may sound scarily portentous and look magnificently important: a sort of hybrid between the Victoria Cross and one of those gorgeous enamel flowers that you can get at Dior, although, sadly, without the diamonds. But it is not, repeat not, the Gallic answer to the Nobel Prize.
<p

Even Chanel was a bit punk; the way she wore jersey and fake jewellery was a rebellion in her day.

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. If you have never put a foot wrong, you’re probably too set in your ways.

Look for alternative ways of expressing what you feel: you may not want to wear a fluorescent dress, but how about a pair of tangerine patent shoes?

Dressing head-to-toe in expensive clothes can be as big a mistake as always wearing cheap ones. At every age it’s far more effective to mix things up. I like it best when it’s not obvious where my clothes come from.

Be open-minded about new labels. It’s great to have tried-and-tested ones, but thanks to my two daughters I’m also a regular at H&M, Gap, Isabel Marant, Aspesi and Vanessa Bruno.

Source<a
