OUT WITH AARON K: Nutty-Acting

OUT WITH AARON K: Nutty Acting all indie

I’m always surprised at how busy and nutty-acting everyone gets during Fashion Week prep. Everyone is in a huff. I’ve seen a lot of models in Soho, they’re almost all in huffs. Except for the “It” models, you know like Ash and Jethro. I bet they’re never in anything like a huff, they’re only in magazines. Is Cole Mohr still “It”?

Anyway, I got invited to the model casting for Duckie Brown. It made me feel a little special, but whenever I told anyone they sort of laughed. Everyone thought I was trying out to be a model, I wasn’t. Duckie wanted me there to cast models, and pretend to DJ. I really like pretending.

It was self-defeating though. The casting, I mean.  I was the short, pasty, black-clad kid with grandma glasses and bad hair. Everyone around me was 6 foot tall, healthy, fit, and beautiful. It was awful, and amazing. Amazing because they were changing and naked and trying on great clothes.

Two boys I party with came on a go-see. Is that an official term? Go-see? Or did Tyra make that up for America’s Next Top Model? But, right, Jace and Harvey came on a go-see. It was nice seeing them out and about during the day. And I think both of them were cast, because they have amazing walks and are so handsome.

Oh. Did anyone see that Craiglist missed connection from Tuesday? A friend posted it to my Facebook. I think someone I know, a boy, gave a man a blowjob at the Box while his girlfriend watched. It all happened on the balcony, I mean, I must have been a few feet away. Was it you? Tell me the truth. I need the scoop.

I think it’s a good nightlife when things like this can still happen. It reminds me of Studio 54.

It’s so sad that the Ruff Club is ending. I don’t know what else to say. It’s the end of an era, or something. There’s a rumor that Peaches Geldof and Jethro Cave will be there. That they’re going to DJ. I love Nick Cave, and his son Jethro is amazing. I didn’t know that Peaches is still around. Can I have her job? What is her job?

P.S.

I forgot to mention I met Christopher Sauve and Julia Frakes yesterday while creeping Soho with Alex. Chris was the nicest, like so pleasant. Julia was a button, but I kind of think I squeezed her hand too hard. Alex thought her pants were a great Beacon’s find, but of course they were Erin Wasson. Nicollette said Julia was a downtown luminary.

I guess she must be if she’s curating a collection at Screaming Mimi’s for Fashion’s Night Out. I’m jealous, wish I was curating a collection.

Did you know that even the Disney Channel changes its New York programming before and during Fashion Week? I told you, nutty-acting. Everyone.

Are You Ready To Get Ruff For Fashion Week?

I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t really getting my usual excited feeling about Fashion Week until I saw this flyer in my inbox today (which nearly resulted in me passing out in pure excitement at my desk)! This is going to be THE party to be at for Fashion Week! For more details check out the RUFF CLUB website, and prepare to lose your minds on the 11th.

PHOTOGRAPHER TO KNOW: Elle Rex

She’s a photographer, she’s a videographer, she’s a model, she has the best style, she travels the world, she takes the most amazing party photos, she goes everywhere you’d want to go, she knows everyone you’d want to know, and she looks like this:

Fashion Indie’s favorite, and most fashionable nightlife photographer, Elle Rex, had her last night at Ruff Club on Friday.  We’re going to miss her fierce style, and everyone all over the internet is going to miss her weekly photos that capture them in all of their ridiculousness.  Elle’s heading off to Europe with Designer Drugs, so don’t worry, she won’t disappear completely, but her nights of taking photos of our favorite Ruff kids are over, as the end of Ruff Club is set for next week.

We’ll definitely miss seeing Elle around, and the final Ruff Club won’t be the same without her, but I’m sure we’ll be partying together in the future. Have fun in Europe, Elle!

Every party where I see Taylor, he’s always dressed to the T. Flawless, perfectly styled, and perfectly coiffed hair, Taylor’s a natural born stylist and DIY-er. See him Fridays at Ruff Club and check out his crazy gear. These pins arranged in a v-neck shape are mostly vintage, and as he told me, belonged to his Grandmother. Originality at its’ finest!

Check out his, and the Ruff kids photos on their website and check out his blog here!

INTRODUCING: Fashion Indie’s Newest Columnist, Aaron K

Picture 12You may remember us raving about how much we love Aaron K on our ‘Top 25 Under 25 Stylish People To Know’ list, and read how much love he got from everyone in the comments. Well, now we wanted to tell you that Fashion Indie (and all the world) loves Aaron K SO much that we’ve asked him to write his own column!

Aaron promotes parties all over the city, COOL JERK at Sin Sin, The Box, Ruff Club, and Tribeca Grand, and is always dressed to kill.  Corey and I met Aaron through our favorite party spot, Ruff Club at the Annex, and we’ve become good friends.  We knew that Aaron would have the best stories, as he goes to and throws the best parties, so we’re super excited to hear what he’s up to now on Fashion Indie.  Look for Aaron’s column, ‘OUT With Aaron K’, following the life of the most interesting (and fashionable) Club Kid around.

FASHIONINDIE: We Do Nightlife So You Don’t Have To

Photo 41

Ouch. Friday night at Ruff Club, someone I don’t know was a little too drunk (no, not me, a guy, a friend of friends), passed out into me, and I fell down 5 concrete stairs, and by fell, I mean tossed through the air, flipped over backwards, and landed on my face…stood up bleeding, took a cab home, and woke up in the morning looking like this, among other bruises.  Needless to say, we think we do a pretty good job at keeping your nightlife interesting, telling all of the crazy stories of our 5am nights, and luckily, you don’t have to wake up looking like this.

25 UNDER 25: Stylish People To Know

We’ve composed a list of the twenty five most stylish people we know under twenty five (well, a couple are “25″). Influences, creatives, or just plain crazy people, here’s Fashion Indie’s take on who to know, and who we wish we were as stylish as:

Celebrities-

25 UNDER 25: Stylish People To Know all indieRihanna- Ri’s been really stepping it up lately. She’s got a wide range of looks, and is starting to find a world of her own when it comes to her style.

Picture 1Lady Gaga- Everyone knows she’s crazy. Lady Gaga is definitely changing the views of fashion right now

Picture 2Taylor Momsen- Are you surprised? You know we love her.

Picture 3Emma Watson- The young HP actress is growing up! And looking hot at every event, if we do say so ourselves.

Picture 4The Olsen Twins- They’ve been in the fashion eye for awhile now, and now that they’ve got some of their own lines, they always look awesome.

Picture 5Zoe Kravitz- Lenny’s daughter! This teen has been making a lot of appearances lately, and looks good!

Models-

Picture 6Chanel Iman- Our favorite model to follow on Twitter. Chanel is so adorable, and has really awesome style (check out those boots!)

25 UNDER 25: Stylish People To Know all indieTallulah Morton- She’s all over the Cobra Snake (in a Cory Kennedy way), and always looking fly.

Picture 8Cole Mohr- This is for you Kirby.  Cole brought boyish and grunge to the fashion forefront, for models anyway. Plus he’s incredibly handsome, which definitely isn’t a bad thing.

Picture 12Ethan James- Ethan is being seen more and more on the fashion scene (Milan fashion week, H & M, tons of editorial spreads), and has a similar look to Cole. I actually went to high school with this Ford model, and he’s been the most stylish guy I know since he was 15.

Picture 9Jethro Cave- Pioneered the half-shaved head. LOVE those hanger tattoos.

Fashion Personalities and Party People-

Picture 13Alexa Chung- Whether she’s dressed to kill or wearing denim cutoffs, Alexa Chung is always on top of her game.

Picture 20Chloe Sevigny- Great designer, great style icon. I’m in love with her buckle booties, which she is seen wearing a lot, paired with skinny pants or cute dresses. Definitely a hipster style icon.  We know she isn’t exactly under 25, but she’s been around for so long as a stylish designer to know, and like our moms, is one of those women that turn 25 every year for the rest of their lives.

Picture 14Peaches Geldof- This social always looks gorgeous (as do all the Geldofs), for events or on the street with her fake fiance.

25 UNDER 25: Stylish People To Know all indieAaron Kolfage- Fashion Indie’s favorite party host and dear friend, Aaron always looks fierce on Friday nights at Ruff Club. He dresses with such creativity, I haven’t seen anything like it anywhere else. This weekend, Aaron was wearing a giant tulle bowtie with a brooch in the middle, and I was mad jealous. Aaron gives us Midwesterners hope for being incredibly stylish, he’s from Michigan!

Fashion Bloggers-

Picture 21Pelayo of Kate Loves Me – This guy, and his girlfriend, both have killer style. He wears some of the craziest things I’ve ever seen (including Louis Vuitton mesh tights!), and has perfectly coiffed hair at all times.

Picture 22Lovisa The Intern- Lovisa Drever is all over Lookbook.nu, but I know her from Waffles + Falafels (who even briefly carried a shirt with her photo on it). She’s got a killer sense of style and can pull anything off, plus adds to the crazy personalities of W + F, who are some of my favorite people.

Picture 24Six Six Sick Girls- These hosts and bloggers DIY matching outfits for their events, which include everything from red wigs to elbow gloves. They not only have a crazy (and matching) sense of DIY style, they also post some (literally) sick stuff on their blog.

Picture 25Kirby Marzec- Fashion Indie’s own managing editor, Kirby not only knows everything about every designer, and what’s going to be hot next season, but she also isn’t afraid to pull it off. Whether it’s drop (to the knee) crotch pants, DIY ripped tees, or metal vests, you can be assured that Kirby will wear it, and she’ll wear it damn well.

Picture 26Jazzi McG- We had a half hour long talk the other day about how much we love Jazzi’s blog, and her style.  A queen of DIYing and always dressed perfectly for the occasion, she’s definitely one to watch.

Picture 15Tavi of Style Rookie-  Tavi is no rookie, maybe in the way that ‘Rookie of the Year’ becomes a professional baseball player, Tavi dresses better than some veterans of fashion.

Picture 16Camille of Childhood Flames- Another not-even-legal fashion blogger showing that you don’t have to have a career to be fashionable, this sixteen year old is a pro at mixing designer goods with things we can afford, and is also taking advantage of the DIY world.

25 UNDER 25: Stylish People To Know all indieLucas Logan- This 18-year-old from LA is all over the internet, model/blogger (Stylish Kids In Riot)/designer, Lucas is California’s newest ‘It’ Kid, braces and all.

Musicians-

Picture 19Uffie- I mean look at her, in.sane.

Picture 27The Veronicas- I’ve followed The Veronicas since I was in high school, and their style has definitely evolved into rocker chic. They always look good separately, and even better together, on stage or off, and aren’t afraid to take risks.

THIS WEEKEND’S PARTY(S): 5am Nights

Picture 29

I’m sure by now you’ve seen all of our ‘Last Night’s Party’s from last week, and you know that Thursday night we were at Webster Hall for Diesel’s U:Music talking with Cobra Starship and Passion Pit, and then avidly blogged until 5am so that you could all see the details from the night first, so our weekend started quite early.  Of course, we headed out Friday and Saturday to some different spots so we could (hopefully) have crazy/funny stories on Monday.

Picture 5Our Friday started early as we felt the effects of staying up all night, and woke up early to head to the Nylon and SoBe Life Water sample sale and runway event and were sad to find that Daniel and Rebecca were not there.  Regardless, the event was a good time, a great turnout, and I got a few Hellz Bellz tees from the sample sale (which I’m quite excited about). Photos of this event are now up on Cult. Later, we met Daniel and Rebecca and headed over to a meeting with a potential party spot for Fashion Indie, and enjoyed a nice lunch. Then it was time for naps before the real partying began.

Corey’s night started out at Webster Hall with Atrak, here’s what he had to say:

Picture 38

I spent Friday night at Webster Hall courtesy of my new aquaintance Lindsay Luv. As if the bottle service wasn’t enough, we had the best table in the house for A-Trak and Treasure Fingers, two of the best (and my favorite) DJ’s in the industry. The floor below was jam packed with kids, 90% of which couldn’t see they were so messed up, but every last one of them couldn’t help but move to the insanity that was A-trak. For a DJ set I must say it ended a bit early, so that meant it was time head over to The Annex to meet up with Hillary for promised fun at Ruff Club with Aaron K.

I never fail to follow through on a promise. After hitting up Angels and Kings (a bar I actually used to frequent..no mocking, please), I realized exactly why I stopped going there, so left and headed to have some real fun at Ruff Club.

Picture 39

Aaron K was ready to party as usual, in his giant tulle bow fastened with a brooch (which was absolutely amazing), and so were all of our other friends at Ruff. Needless to say, the night was full of good music, good friends, and not one, but two bottles. We closed the night outside chatting with new friends, and headed back to World Trade around 5am, luckily making it without any lost shoes.

Picture 40

Saturday was a bit more low-key (although I did not fail to miss the parade happening in Jersey City, anyone know what that was?), I headed down to Peculiar Pub to meet with Corey and a few of his old friends, and found myself surrounded with people I would find at every bar in Michigan (which isn’t a good thing, like that guy up there from the “New Haircut” video on Youtube) After a drink we left and headed to Red Head, which was quiet and relaxed, just the way I like it for a Saturday night.  We somehow managed to look down at our phones and realize it was 3:30AM, so closed the night with the bar, and parted ways.

No complaints for this weekend, it was a lot of fun, and we love Ruff Club as usual, sorry for the lack of crazy stories, I’m sure we’ll make up for it this week!

LAST WEEKENDS PARTY(s): Caution! This Could Get Ruff.

LAST WEEKENDS PARTY(s): Caution! This Could Get Ruff. all indie

Summers in New York City are a blur as it is, but when you mix in the amazing nightlife scene and free alcohol, it’s like they never even existed. This weekend was no exception to that previous statement, because even as I’m typing this article I find myself remembering more and more from this amazing weekend that came and went way too fast.

I started weekend off at my seemingly new hangout The Annex for Ruff Club, which happens every Friday. The people and the scene are always great, and as one trendy person after the next files through the front corridor, you can’t help but get excited for the amazing DJ’s to crank up the volume and get the party going. However this Friday was different from the past. Our beloved women’s editor Kirby was celebrating her last night in the city before embarking on a month long vacation that has her back and fourth between Chicago, Los Angeles, and her home. So as Kirby, Hillary, Dez, myself, and our crew of trendy accomplices crowded around our table and bottles of vodka and champagne, there was feeling that we had to make this party a memorable (via photographs and text messages of course) one, and it did. The music was great, everyone was dancing, and the camera just kept on flashing, but when the time came, we all slowly filtered out of the club, each wandering our own paths home.

LAST WEEKENDS PARTY(s): Caution! This Could Get Ruff. all indie

Saturday brought me a day of rest, as I tried to piece together the night before with my roommates and Hillary over brunch. It seemed that we all made it home in one piece, minus the one $200 Nike Dunk that some how made from my roommates foot, over the fence into the World Trade Center. As night fell it was time to saddle up again, so we headed out to our favorite local pub for cheap drinks. The place is so low key we usually have the whole place to ourselves, but as the drinks flow so do the invites we send to our friends, and before we knew it the place was pretty packed.

LAST WEEKENDS PARTY(s): Caution! This Could Get Ruff. all indie

Sunday was rough. Some how the decision to go thrifting in Williamsburg was made, but the heat and the exhaustion left not only Hillary (as you can see above), but all of us in need for some AC and some good old cable TV (however I did score an amazing pair of boots for $25). A late night dinner before Entourage completed my weekend, and now I’m ready (I think) to tackle this week.

Be sure to check back this week, as there are a lot of events going on that I’ll be keeping you posted on! Thanks again to all the people at Ruff Club who keep the Fashion Indie crew happy, we love you to death! (Yes that means you Aaron). Be sure to check out the Ruff Club website for the calendar of wonderful events they are hosting, we’d love to see you out there!
