As a Fashion photographer for 25+ years, I have had the privilege of being exposed to a wide panoply of incredibly talented photographers and fashion designers. There are several venues around the world that feature young up and coming artists, as well as confirmed professionals. One of the festivals that has been in existence for 25+ years as well is The International Fashion and Photography Festival of Hyères ,France. The Festival runs from April 29th to May 2nd 2011 and the Exhibition runs from April 30th to May 29th 2011.

This year the festival is featuring 10 incredibly talented designers and 10 gifted fashion photographers. I have had a close look at the talent on offer and I must say, I am truly impressed.  The judges are going to have their hands full and I am sure that no matter the outcome, it will be a win win situation for all involved.  Many greats have come out of this festival like Photographer Sølve Sundsbø and Fashion Designers Viktor & Rolf.

What I find interesting is that some of my favorite artists commenced with this festival and have gone on to become Giants in their chosen Art Form.  What I also appreciate is the diversity of those involved in the judging  process of this years festival.  There is a melting pot of individuals from a wide panoply of the creative universal soup.  It is in my opinion analogous to what I experienced when I attended Architectural School in Canada.  None the less, I sincerely, highly recommend you look in to the possibility of attending this rare gem of a festival in one of the most picturesque parts of France.  Don’t miss it.

Check out the 2010 CFDA Fashion Awards journal, which will be given to guests on Monday June 7 at the event. The images were shot by Sølve Sundsbø and styled by Lori Goldstein. Creative direction by Trey Laird of Laird+Partners. The images are of the three womenswear nominees: Alexander Wang (go Lauren you sexy gurl!), Donna Karan, and Marc Jacobs + the three Swarovski womenswear nominees (for emerging talent): Jason Wu, Joseph Altuzarra, and Prabal Gurung.

Photographer Sølve Sundsbø, known for his avant-guard manipulations, has collaborated with Surface to Air. Sick of basics and trying to incorporate prints into my wardrobe, I am in love with this collaboration. The images are mysterious, unique and their texture seems to jump of the screen.

Rosario Dawson models Max Mara, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, and her own skin for  The Spring Fashion Issue of T, last Sunday’s New York Times Style Magazine.

Shot by Sølve Sundsbø, the shoot is simple and focuses on Dawson as a natural beauty.

Some of the freakiest fashion photos will be on display at the Weird Beauty exhibit at the International Center of Photography in NYC. The exhibit will try to represent the convergence of art, sexuality, narratives, digital and youth influences on fashion photography. Original photographs will be shown alongside tearsheets from published works. Steven Meisel, Cindy Sherman, Mario Sorrenti, Nick Knight, Steven Klein, Miles Aldridge, Paolo Roversi, Sølve Sundsbø and more will be on display through May.
