After sharing her cosmetic expertise, Pat answered a few of our burning questions.

On how Dolce & Gabbana’s collections inspire her for The Make Up: It’s incredible because there are so many Dolce & Gabbana collections to pull inspiration from. I work with Domenico and Stefano researching the archives to choose some of our favorite colors for the collections. I use elements I know they are inspired by – rich, Italian color and bright, bold design.

On choosing perfect colors for the collection: For me, when it comes to cosmetics, it’s not about right, it’s about love. Do I love that color? We test each hue multiple times on different models to make sure it works for many diverse looks. But over time, you have a sense of what is right and wrong.

On the must-have makeup trends for summer: I love that brows are back – we’re grooming them and making them fuller. I’m fond of the play on lips this season with the all-or-nothing mentality. You saw everything from the super strong colors all the way to nudes on the runway. Also, using blush and bronzer everywhere – eyes, cheeks, temples, chin and body – for a maximum summertime glow.

I also got to try the infamous Animalier Bronzer and Classic Cream Lipstick in Venere while I was there. One word covers both products – obsession. If these won’t make you feel like summer is here, nothing will.

We caught up with Kristin Chenoweth after her tear-inducing performance.

What’s your favorite thing to wear right now?
Very comfortable clothes. I’m really into Proenza [Schouler] right now. I just wore a beautiful shift dress by Joie on Oprah two days ago.

Wow! What was that like being on Oprah?!
Crazy! My head’s not even… It’s still in a cloud. It was a very special moment in my life.

You are such a phenomenal talent. How does it feel to be on the stage?
Always on a stage of any kind is a blessing. Because I get so much from the audience and hopefully I can give back. It’s awesome.

Loving this white pocketed number. Who are you wearing tonight?
Theory! I’m all over the map. From Diane Von Furstenberg to Theory. I go anywhere that’s simple and looks good on me. That’s where I go.

Well she’s beautiful, it must not be very difficult.

The “Tribute to Mont Blanc” white collection will be available exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue in NYC until May 29th, with all proceeds going to conserve the mountain range.

I had the honor of meeting Stella McCartney before the event really started – the Liv of the party hadn’t arrived yet. Determined to talk to her, I persisted past the determinedly protective security PR and introduced myself. Nerves almost got the better of me as I toldher that while I’m a Fashion Editor, I’m also a designer and born Beatles fan. Her smile proved she is a kind, beautiful soul. Conversation ebbed into how when she first began, there was much hoopla surrounding her choice to be completely animal and eco friendly. It was such a bizarre choice 10 years ago. Now, designers are faced with the issue of how to make eco-friendliness a non-issue by just making it an innate part of the process and letting the clothing speak for itself.  After a minute’s time talking on sustainability with Stella McCartney, she got whisked away to retrieve Liv Tyler. Don’t fret – that was not the last she saw of me.

I thus busied myself with the touch of her squeezably soft wools, the gold wovens, and the cucumber cocktails until their return.

I eventually caught up with Liv Tyler and chatted up what we’re feeling in fashion right now, and of course about Stella. By the way, she is even more elegantly stunning in person than in any pictures or movies.

What trends are you loving this season?

“I would say I’m very not hip to knowing what’s in because I only follow my heart, what I like. I don’t keep up with [magazines]. I read magazines when I can, and I see pieces when I walk by them in a store. I have more of a specific eye when it comes to [shopping]. Like, I could come to this place and in about 4 minutes I could say exactly what I want and how I would put it together.”

What is your heart saying for fashion right now, within yourself?

“I’m really happy to be in this [Stella McCartney] dress. I feel like a fem-bot. Everything’s in place.  I’m really happy in it right now. Too bad I can only wear it once because I had my picture taken in it about 300 times.”

I think we all feel that way with Facebook. That’s why I like separates.

“I love separates. I live in Wolford tights and Lanvin flats. And then whatever else I can come up with. I really love shorts and rompers, but with tights. Little skirts and blouses and t-shirts. I definitely like separates right now.”

How much Stella do you think you have in your closet?

“Not a crazy amount, but the pieces last forever. They don’t go away. I have a couple of jackets that I’ve had for 6 years. I have a suit from when she was at Chloé. They’re so well made and so chic and powerful that they transcend trends… I always feel like it’s the grownup in me. I have all these different sections of my closet. The one section where most of my Stella things are, is for when I have a meeting, or when I want to feel like a woman.”

Now there’s no way I would have left without saying so long to Stella. And I wanted to get a quote for my all my Indies. At the end of a press line longer than the train on André Leon Talley‘s Met Gala gown, I squeezed in, nearly glamouring the PR that just kicked three girls off the line ahead of me, and got to ask one question. Here goes:

I was just writing today about how important the oversized blazer is.

“Oh, cool!”

I wanted to know how you came up with it. What’s your reasoning behind it?

“I guess I’m always borrowing my boyfriend’s jackets, and it’s… my husband, sorry! It just gives a bit more attitude.”

So maybe I made her a little tongue tied, too? Regardless, Stella McCartney is a graceful and talented woman who has not only come from great legacy, but is creating her own.

The Suit: Everyone knows that the suit makes the man and that’s why the Don wouldn’t be caught dead not wearing one. There are many suits that a guy can wear that will carry the same presence. For the more conservative exec a plain black suit that fits well is always recommended and adding a pinstripe in your repertoire will have people appreciating you attention to detail. For a bolder guy a suits with materials that have a little sheen are great and if you really want to turn head goes with a color like cranberry. (SEE: Macy’s, Nordstrom’s, Brooks Brothers & Topman)

The Shirt: The same rules apply for the shirt as it did for the suit. You rarely see Donald on Celebrity Apprentice wearing a non solid color (or white for that matter) shirt. To make this look your own bust out this this mindset and go for your patterns. It’s always cool when you take your jacket off and there is a completely new look there. The Tie: When it comes to style I feel like if you walked into Trump Towers without a tie you would be fired immediately. The Trump man keeps it pretty simple with his neck wear. Look Four: Layered and Lace

The Long Lace Skirt: $205

I chose this skirt because it has to be layered, and the lace is insatiable. It’s perfectly narrow at the waist with a zipper, and it flares so naturally at the bottom. Spinning takes great effect in this.

The Nether Layer Ivory Skirt: $145

I went white underneath so that the lace can come alive in contrast. It’s shorter than the lace skirt, so there’s a cloud of mystery by the ankles. The elastic at the waistband makes this piece ultra versatile and the silk makes it super soft.

The Crop Tank Back-Lace: $125

From the front, it is proportioned just right for this skirt, curving up to the top of the hips. The back is made of white lace, covering sheer from nape to waist.

The Plucked Heart Necklace: Pamela Love, $380

She’s the drummer in a band and inspired by everything from medicine to Hieronymus Bosch. She’s making mighty jewelry, rustic, weighty and evocative.

1. Wear a jazzy surgical mask. Remember when swine flu was all the rage? Everywhere you looked, someone(s) was wearing a surgical mask. These are ugly and sterile, no pun intended. Spice up your look while protecting your immune system with gemstones, colorful patterns or even a different mouth. Samira Boon created her masks because she was tired of seeing the the dreary white variety everywhere. You can be a tiger, gorilla or zipped-lip by snagging one at the Hara Museum Online Shop. The Etsy shop Cheap Champagne offers ruffles and plaids if you want a girlie feel.

2. Lady gloves keep germs at bay. A lady should never leave her house without gloves, how rude! These dandy little dress gloves keep scum from penetrating your precious dermis. 3. Keep hand sanitizer with you at ALL TIMES. Don’t even think about re-applying lip gloss without getting subway grime off your fingers first. “We have upgraded our website to high-fashion status with the finest photography and styling,” ROMYGOLD designers and founders, Lisa Goldstein and Romy Jagid said. “Our new look combines the chic uptown girl with downtown cool. In keeping with our sophisticated yet edgy designs, high-end leathers and fashion forward clientele, we created a cleaner and more modern logo that remains reminiscent of the original one.”

If you love a black wardrobe, Verlaine is the collection for you. Designed by Vaughan Alexander for the global woman who’s “leaning toward the darker side,” this line boasts technique and handcrafted details. The collection is sold at Kirna Zabête in New York.

Maison Bellaish’s viscose dress

An alum of Roberto Cavalli and Gianfranco Ferré, Victor Bellaish has done time at some of Europe’s finest design houses. He launched his line Maison Bellaish in 2006, and his work is just as fine – the designs, handmade in Israel, focus on silk, lace and feathers. The collection is sold exclusive at the Maison Bellaish Atelier in New York.

Lekuin’s silk and cotton dress and tank top

If you want to be eco-friendly and not look trashy like KeSha, Leticia Garcia has the tonic. The model turned designer uses recycled fabrics for her line Lekuin, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. She describes the line as androgynous, “urban, a little bit punk but with a strong, feminine spirit.” You can snag the collection at BoutiqueToYou.com.

Sara Roka’s cotton shirtdress

After Vancouver native Sara Roka‘s 2009 capsule collection flopped, she dusted herself off and launched a shirt-centric label in 2010. Perfect for the girl with effortless style, her ruffled blouses, shoulder-baring dresses and puff-sleeved tops go above and beyond the basic white tee. Her collection is available at Gregory’s in Dallas, Nia Roma in Rome and Bugatti in Dubai.

Penumbra’s sand-washed silk blouse and sand-washed silk and cotton jersey pants

Courtney Bennett and Stephanie Giorgio don’t have design backgrounds, and maybe that’s what makes their line Penumbra so eclectic. Penumbra means “partial illumination” or “between dark and light.” Their clothes, mostly draped and cut from rayon jersey or sand-washed silk, transition well between day and night. Joy Cioci’s silk jacket, tank and pants

Joy Cioci, fresh from her recent experience working under Tom Ford and Oliver Theyskens, is debuting her fall 2011 line at New York Fashion Week in February. Expect cool and sophisticated cocktail wear with deep-v backs and sexy silk separates. Fall’s inspiration, Cioci adds, “is the way light can embrace an object. So the colors are muted and washed out, and there’s a sense of freedom with the silhouettes and shapes.”

Why just eat delicious game meats when you can wear them too? Native New Yorker Norisol Ferrari believes in lamb and deer leather, garments signed by the seamstress and NYC manufacturing. “I am a born and raised New Yorker,” Ferrari said. “This city made me. I feel indebted to it.” Her line of leather, suede, lamb and deer is sold in Maxfield in Los Angeles.

The legendary motorcycle club is suing McQueen, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Zappos for selling items bearing the Hells Angels’ winged skull. Sounds silly (if you wanna sue someone for wearing skulls, you’d have to track down every goth kid since 1982), but it makes a bit of sense when you notice the McQueen designs in question: the $495 “Hell’s Four-Finger Ring” and the $1565 “Hells Angels Jacquard Box Dress.” The bikers are claiming copyright infringement…and their feelings are hurt, god damnit!

“This isn’t just about money, it’s about membership,” said Hells Angels lawyer Fritz Clapp, a Los Angeles-based biker who sports a red mohawk. “If you’ve got one of these rings on, a member might get really upset that you’re an imposter.”

I’d argue that ownership of skulls is a silly thing to claim, but I really don’t want to get on the Hells Angels’ bad side. Just ask Rolling Stones fans.

?Moreschi is ramping up its comfort features with the launch of Motion by Moreschi. The line features unit bottom soles and removable orthotics that can be replaced through Moreschi. The casual styles — including a brown moccasin with blue contrast stitching and a moccasin with hardware — retail for $395. For the same price, the company is also introducing a new dress package of five calfskin shoes with rubber bottoms, including a boot and loafer. The styles come in black and brown and are aimed at department stores and men’s specialty shops.?

?Sneaker Set
?Menswear’s Isaia is launching its first sneaker line for fall ’10. The single style takes its look from a traditional oxford and features a rubber sole. It comes in a variety of fabrics — leather, suede, wool, cashmere — and colors. Specific suit fabrics from Isaia’s made-to-measure program are also available. The shoes are handmade and available in a month and half to two months. Retailing for $425, the shoe will be sold at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Stanley Korshak in Dallas.

Bruno Magli is adding a dress/comfort line for fall ’10. The collection of five styles — including an apron-toe blucher, dress Venetian and dress Chelsea boot — features a wedge sole for more stability and added comfort. The TPR sole is made of natural rubber for shock absorption and slip resistance. The line retails for $425 to $445 and will be available to Bruno Magli accounts starting in August.

Before I even get into this, I want to inform you that I am only posting this due to prior “conversations” with the illustrious Daniel Saynt and a certain feisty Saks accessories buyer friend. It was a few weeks ago in LA when Mr. Saynt hastily brought up the idea of watches being a failing technology over a (disproportionately) shared bottle of vodka. As lines where drawn in the virus infested hotel carpet, Daniel took the side of watches turning into wrist equipped smart watches (ie image above) and our Mighty Mouse-esque Saks companion, Daniel’s loving wife Rebecca, and myself defended our classic “tick and tock” type watches.

While Daniel may be right that the watch is evolving, I stand my ground with my opinions. This watch is rediculous and doesn’t look very cool either. So shall we hold a vote? This Blackberry watch or a Cartier? You tell me, I’m with the old school!

When I visited Harrods in London I was overwhelmed by the number of beautiful women wearing plain black abayas with multiple shopping bags in their hands. Looking like Cher from Clueless after shopping on daddies credit card, I couldn’t help but wonder why they were buying all these beautiful expensive clothes if they must wear abayas over them in public anyway. Thankfully, designers are posing this same question and answering it with a beautiful bang: John Galliano, Nina Ricci, Blumarine and Alberta Feretti have all designed couture Abayas. Ready-to-wear versions of the abaya’s will be on sale at the Saudi Arabian location of SAKS, making life a little more fashionable.

It’s only been one year since Christian won Project Runway, but the tiny mogul has been quite busy. Saks Fifth Avenue just picked up his collection and will sell the fall line in its new in-store boutique for up-and-coming designers.

Once again, my week began early as Alexandra coaxed me out of my family visit in the boondocks to come back to the city on Sunday under the pretext of finding a suitor. Alexandra’s friend “Chicago” was performing at the Ritz. “It’ll be fun!” she said in her reassuring, sweet voice. “It’ll be good for you go to out and meet new people.” Bah humbug, she hit me at my Achilles Heel and so I agreed. I tried to convince a few more of my friends to come out with us but they lost interest as soon as a specified that I meant “The Ritz”—as in the gay club, not the hotel.

I had never been to The Ritz but I heard that Madonna and Jesus had stopped by during the previous week to dance. “How bad can it be?” I thought. Well, I was in for a surprise. It goes without saying that there was no open bar and I refused to pay for drinks so I sat on the banquette and watched the performances—clearly not meant to be done in a sober state. The show ended when the fat lady sang, literally. Said fat lady stripped off her dress and belted “Don’t Stop Believing” to an audience that had mostly paired off for the night. It seemed to me that the crowd had stopped believing in the performances somewhere after the man singing an opera ballad threw off his trench coat to reveal a pale body suit and ran around the room screaming, “I’ve got no privates.”

Because we refused to end the night on that note, we made our way to the Greenhouse for Vandam Sundays, the weekly blowout gay party hosted by Kenny Kenny that’s reminiscent of an acid-trip. Besides the usual drag suspects in eye-popping makeup, there was also a girl on five-foot stilts swinging her purse around as she stomped to the music. Mary-Kate Olson was inexplicably downstairs dancing but had left before we could catch a glimpse of the mythical creature.

The next day was comparably more staid: the 25th Anniversary of the Wellington Hair Spa. Organized by PR Noir diva Danita King, the event featured complimentary wine by Bouké but most importantly there were enough hors d’oeuvres to get one’s fill for dinner. Hey, it’s a recession.

If I hadn’t been invited to any parties, I might have missed the fact that Tuesday was Saint Patrick’s Day all together. I was greatly looking forward to that night’s ACRIA benefit at the chic Soho House thrown by promoter-legend Patrick Duffy. The party was a late starter (all the bold-faced names were at the Valentino Film premiere) and there was no open-bar. Alexandra put it best when she said, “I feel like we’ve been duped.” Well, technically we had been Duffy-ed. Most exciting for me, I spoke with Ken Doll incarnation Leif Stacey who walked the Barbie Show during New York Fashion Week.

As no Saint Patrick’s Day is complete without society saint Patrick McMullan, we attempted to head over to PMc’s annual party, appropriately held this year at Greenhouse. By the time we had arrived, which was about an hour after the start time, the place was over-capacity and we were told we’d have to wait in line. Madonna doesn’t do lines and neither do we so we skedaddled like two Leprechauns.

I wasn’t in the mood to make another trip back to Greenhouse the next day for Wednesday’s Nylon/Bodhi Bags party so I didn’t resurface until Thursday for the Saks/FIT Gala. Held at the glamorous Cipriani’s Midtown, I knew I had to take it up a notch for the step and repeat so I stopped by Versani to borrow some bling. Guests included Teen Vogue’s Amy Astley, IMG’s Fern Mallis and other industry heavy-weights. The event, which included champagne, lavish hors d’oeuvres and photographers would have definitely been categorized as a “hit” had we actually had a seat for the sit-down dinner. In my quasi-press capacity, we were only invited for the cocktail hour. As such, I technically can’t report on how Mayor Bloomberg supposedly presented an award since I was not there to witness.

Alexandra and I were dressed to the nines and we refused to go home before 9PM and cry into a bowl of Lucky Charms so instead we dropped in on the Bowery Hotel for the Festa Brasileira event hosted by the Nature Conservancy Young Professionals Group. Lucky for us, the champagne and hors d’oeuvres continued there and we even managed to get photographed. It was a perfect and classy way to end the evening.

It was back to the Bowery on Friday night for the Layla Love benefit, which was raising money for blindness treatment of the photojournalist. If the Bowery Hotel represents the new glossy Manhattan, then the Collective Hardware space at 169 Bowery represents the vestigial, gritty Bowery of yore. I thought we might be mugged at any moment or at least see the ghost of Sid Vicious as we mulled around the industrial space, though neither incident occurred. Instead, we waited around for something to happen but left before the scheduled runway show at 10PM.

Even during a week of misses, it’s impossible not to reflect on how lucky we are to attend all these glamorous functions. It’s easy to forget that there are people who actually pay for alcohol—now that’s a crazy concept.

First Henri Bendel and Kitson dropped Victoria Beckham’s designs because sales didn’t live up to expectations. Now Saks has dropped her dVb denim line.

Reportedly Saks felt “offended when she sold her dress line to Bergdorf’s and not to Saks, even though Saks launched her denim line in their New York store.”

I can’t imagine the $300 price from a celebrity designer was a good incentive either!
