Armed with organic fibers and heritage wools, Samantha Pleet sought to revive romanticism for Fall 2012. With a halo of gold around their heads, the designs paint a picture of soft beauty, with a backstory of sustainability. Since Pleet’s debut in 2006, the now 29-year-old designer has used eco-friendly materials in a delicately cool way. She’s shown with Gen Art and The Green Shows, and continues to build a following of girl rockers like The Dirty Projectors and Au Revoir Simone, along with girls who want beautiful clothes (that just happen to be carefully crafted to preserve the environment).

We were already sniffing out this wide-brimming phenomenon earlier this week, but when Marc Jacobs sent out magnanimous furry top hats, this trend got a head above the rest. Whether floppy like at Rachel Zoe, cowboy like at Nicholas K, or golden like at Samantha Pleet, the brims are thick set to go all the way around.

The Green Shows showcases talented new designers with eco and socially responsible work ethics during Fashion Week, and is celebrating Earth Day this week with guilt-free shopping. They’re hosting the Spring Ecolux Designer Showcase, a pop-up shop in Bloomingdale’s SoHo. It’s all happening this week – ten designers to meet and shop with, plus a window takeover! Wednesday 4/20 through Saturday 4/23. Check out all the designers here before you go there to meet them.

Designer Samantha Pleet is getting her own SHOW!!! We’been in hearts with her since we featured her collection in Fashion Indie Magazine, back in the day when we had a magazine.  If it wasn’t for the fact that we’re getting one too we’d be so jealous right now. It’s called Pleet TV and will be “part Muppet show meets TV party meets Wayne’s World.” Don’t know what all that means, but I’ll VHS record that mess. Thanks Pipeline for the awesome shots.
