On magazines: “It shocks me when young kids still say, ‘I want to do a magazine.’ Really? Do you want to do a magazine because you want to be an editor — what you think that life is, that romance — or do you want to communicate? Because if you want to communicate, why the fuck would you put all those obstacles in your path and have to print pages, as opposed to going right on the Internet and actually communicating?”

On being seated front row at a D&G show along with Garance Doré, Tommy Ton and Bryanboy in 2009, where they were all given laptops on podiums: “They got a humongous amount of press. ‘Look, we brought the bloggers in and gave them the front row. Look at the dancing-monkey bloggers!’ I could barely bring myself to sit down…Like, ‘Ugh, I don’t want everyone looking at us.’ Like, ‘Oh, look at the cute bloggers! Isn’t that cute! Are they playing Angry Birds?’ When you’ve got Ron Frasch [president and chief merchandising officer of Saks Incorporated] behind you going, ‘I spent two fucking million dollars on D&G’s last collection, and I’m sitting here? For these little schmucks?’”

On being introduced to Ron Frasch as a stay-at-home dad : “He’s looking right over my head and I remember thinking, I’m gonna make this fucking blog so he looks at me when I’m talking to him.”

While being interviewed, Frasch and Schuman cross paths and Schuman, it seems, has gotten his wish:

“Hey, Ron.”

“Hey, Scott,” says Ron, politely but without slowing down.

“Happy New Year, buddy,” Schuman says.

And that, kids, is why you want to work at a magazine: to capture precious moments like these. [WWD]

This year, marking the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s 50th anniversary, the awards will be presented on June 4 at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tulley Hall in a ceremony hosted by Saturday Night Live also-ran Seth Meyers.

I’ve never even heard of that last one — nor did I care to — but what do you think of this list? [Net-a-Porter]

For this edition of MISTER TRENDS  I am covering floral print for men this season. The inspiration for this trend comes from D&G’s S/S 2011 collection. Many men might see a floral print and thin of a very feminine summer dress but the tables have turned and now guys and have some flower power in their closets.

For starters a floral shirt can be done right if done subtle. For instance this PS by Paul Smith shirt is absolutely beautiful but can be worn under any basic sweater or blazer as the pop.

Speaking of sweater this basic black one from Topman with a little floral detail around the neck is perfect for those in between days that Spring can offer.

If you want to go for a bolder look than the bright yellow floral pants that photographer Scott Schuman caught this man in can probably work for you.

Now your accessories can be as bold as can be. Since they are smaller you can wear any basic outfit and throw these floral Ray-Bans on for cool look that is still on trend. I think Dr. Marten shoes are extremely masculine was pleasantly surprised that they offered a whole floral collection for this season and even a few more for fall.

This is a great trend, but make sure not to over kill or you’ll look like you’ve been trapped in a bad flower garden.

Rodarte’s layered flowey pieces left me almost speechless, especially since the finale literally glowed in the dark under black light. Romantic, feminine, and almost bridal worthy, the clothes seem to take on a life of their own as they drift down a runway lit by candlelight and sprinkled in white confetti.

Front row included Tavi, Bryan Boy, Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, Natalie Portman, Kristen Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Scott Schuman and Garance Dore.

One of our favorite street photographers Scott Schuman, better known at the Sartorialist, has organized his own pop-up at Barneys! Full of lust-worthy items, Schuman displays his luxurious taste at the ‘SartoriaLUST,’ which includes pieces from Maison Martin Margiela, Dries Van Noten, APC, and Ralph Lauren, among others.  Prices are high, but isn’t that the point of lust-worthy?

Last night I dreamed about an orgy party featuring The Satorialist. It was weird.

I swear to Google, I’m a total workaholic. I hit the midnight superhighway with various tasks to better Fashion Indie and bring you, our faithful readers, a little more of the best content we can find. Lately though, my work has been breaching my waking hours and invading my dreams.

Case in point, the Satorialist orgy party that I dreamed about last night. Here’s how it went down…

For some reason, it was 1971. I think that’s because that number has been in my head since seeing the new collection of Reiss denim which surprisingly is called, 1971. We were at someones house, I’m thinking it was the home Maryanne lived in when Tara first met her, some crazy mansion that was featured in True Blood that sort of looks like a Southern Plantation Era mansion ala Gone With The Wind. Anyways, there’s a party and The Satorialist dude, Scott Schuman is there, except he isn’t taking pictures of peoples style, he’s taking pictures of them nude, oh wait, did I mention that everyone was naked, cause they were. (I definitely watch too much True Blood).

Anyways, Scott was running around the party in a pair of Calvin Klein tighties, telling everyone he’s the next Terry Richardson and trying to convince people he’s good he is in bed. It would be creepy that this is what I dream about, except he has been saying exactly that in interviews lately, so I’m not just making this shit up, he really believes he’s good in bed (until I hear reports from Garance though, this is still a fact to be checked. That’s just good journalism folks.).

While this scene is unfolding I find myself in a bubbling hot tub with Becks, talking about the difference between Butterscotch, Carmel and Dolce de Leche (yes, I’m a total foodict in my dreams as well). Becks thinks they are all the same, I know they are completely different. We continue on our battle as Scott makes his way over. We fail to notice his approach cause he’s barely breaking 2 feet!!! (I know that’s not his real height, he’s got to at least be a few inches taller.) He then starts kicking water in our faces to get our attention.

When I finally carry my glaze over to him his head is doing that crazy thing Saddam Hussein’s head does in South Park. Actually, he kind of sounds like Saddam in South Park as well, high-pitched and screaming. He asks to take our picture. I don’t take pictures so I kindly refuse. He then asks again. I once again refuse.

He then starts snapping away. I become annoyed, not because this is bothering me, but because Becks still isn’t convinced that carmel is very different from butterscotch. I step out of the pool and realize that I’m not nude at all, but instead I’m wearing a Superman costume (which even in my dreams is not so flattering) and I have a camera around my neck. I counteract Scott’s attacks by snapping photos of him, each shot makes him taller, while each one he takes of me makes me shorter. After a few shots, he’s about 100 feet and I’m the size of a garden gnome, still shooting, still shrinking. The Satorialist takes one last shot and I’m the size of an ant. Scott then takes a step forward and his gimorngous foot comes down at me. I SCREAM and wake up, in a chilled sweat, freaking the flip out.

Don’t know what any of this means, but I’m definitely gonna spend less time scouting style blogs and more time talking to my therapist (his name is Jack Daniels and he often consults with his colleague Mike who makes a mean Lemonade). Any thoughts?!?

“Street-style phenom Scott Schuman, otherwise known as the Sartorialist, has a book coming out this fall, and in classic Sartorialist style he’s paying careful attention to all the details. A profile in the Times UK this weekend reported that he turned down several book deal offers before settling on Penguin, the only publisher able to “meet his just-so requirements.” Scott will also enjoy a little action at Barney’s where he’ll hold the stage with his own little Pop-Up Shop in Barneys New York. Expect to find the book and a couple of key accessories like suspenders, cufflinks, and more.

Scott Schuman, otherwise known as The Sartorialist, has teased us with some info on his upcoming debut book.

I was in London last week was to sign the contract and work on my first book!

It will be published by Penguin and be around 500 pages of images with a little writing.

Publication for the huge paperback is slated for September 2009 (convenient for Fashion Week people), and you know he’s touring the world with it.

Now some more shots have surfaced. I was sort of hoping the first teaser image wouldn’t be the final design, but it looks like the weirdly-bordered Sartorialist shots are here to stay…

The Sartorialist himself, Scott Schuman has shot the new Spring 2009 DKNY Jeans campaign.

Featuring indie favorites like Chanel Iman, Sean Lennon, and Daisy Lowe, the ads are in trademark Schuman style — an individual stopped and snapped while strolling through the city.

Schuman’s ads will debut in February in magazines, on billboards, and online.

Okay, so Lowe is the new face for Marc Jacob’s Marc by Marc Spring 2009 campaign. Rumor also has it that she snagged the DKNY campaign, to be shot by The Sartorialist photographer Scott Schuman. Jacobs calls her “adorable” and and Fashionologie says Lowe could bring about “the death of size zero.” Compliments? Yes. Patronizing compliments? You bet.

Whoever thinks Daisy Lowe is a “curvy” model really ought to have their eyes checked. Let us assess the situation: 

Height: 5′ 10″

Measurements: 32.5″ – 25.5″ – 35″

Lowe is an A-cup, with a tiny waist, the average model hip measurements and a typical model height. She isn’t curvy at all. If anything, Whitney Thompson should be considered curvy and NOT plus sized. And the media wonders why eating disorders are so popular these days.
