Grazia Dailly reports that in an interview with Gabbana in The Times, fashion editor Laura Craik brought up Madonna’s new lifestyle brand — and it did not go over well:

Asked about Madonna (the day before we meet, WWD announces that she is to launch a new clothing collection), Gabbana becomes unusually un-chatty. What does he think of the news?

“Good.”

She’ll be ringing you up for a bit of advice soon.

“No”

Oh, OK then. Why not?

“No, she knows many things. She has a style. There are a lot of pop stars making fashion collections – Kylie and J.Lo, Puff Daddy and Kanye West.” He pauses for a beat. “Maybe next season, we should sing a song.”

What could have caused this apparent rift? After all, it’s not like Madonna’s line is going to be in direct competition with Dolce and Gabbana. And even if it was, I think we all know who’d win. No, there’s something else happening here…mayhaps it’s time for the Hardy Gays to investigate.

Admittedly, we’ve been too busy getting sloshed on tequila sunrises to solve any further mysteries, but this case is right up our drunken alley. [Grazia]

I don’t want to say that I was happy when I heard the news of  the J.Lo-Marc Anthony split…though a smile might have crept across my lips for a brief second. Call me crazy, but Anthony, my least favorite J.L0 partnering (I’m still holding out hopes for a Jennifer Lopez-Puff Daddy-Diddy-Diddy Dirty Money-Sean Combs reconciliation) was just holding the diva back. This latest development, however, will no doubt further fuel her recent comeback because nothing engenders sympathy — and publicity — like a high-profile divorce.

Kohl’s on the other hand, isn’t taking  it so well.

“The Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony brands have always been positioned as two separate, distinctive collections that offer high-quality contemporary style for men and women,” half-heartedly claims  a spokeswoman for Kohl’s, “and we look forward to a successful September launch.”

Rick Darling, the president of the licensing company behind the Lopez-Anthony line, also insists on the separate but equal plan:

“We have two separate agreements with Jennifer and Marc and always intended to have separate lines. [Their split] doesn’t impact the agreements in any way.”

Poor kids. Now Kohl’s will have to spend separate holidays and weekends with J.Lo and Marc…and inevitably they’ll have to choose between the two of them. And who do you think they’re going to side with? The poor straight man’s Ricky Martin or the rich gay man’s Eva Mendes? [WWD]

The exhibit opens today June 7th at famed British jeweler Stephen Webster in Beverly Hills.  Proceeds from “In Case of Fashion Emergency Break Glass,” in addition to 10% of jewelry sales for the month of June, will be donated to the Prince’s Trust.

The Prince’s Trust is a cause especially close to Thomas’s heart. Having left his native Glouchester where he was studying as a plumber’s apprentice, Thomas found himself in London at age nineteen with only 30 pounds to his name. There he became immersed in the nightlife scene in hopes of meeting his idol, Boy George. He soon realized, however, he couldn’t get by with just being fabulous; he actually had to do something. The life of a fashion editor appealed to him so at 22 he applied for a grant from the Prince’s Trust.

With the money he won, David put together a portfolio and wrote over 100 stylists, hoping to work for free as an assistant. He supported himself with a job handing out roses and perfume in a bathroom of a club at night and washing dishes at a café on the weekends. He was eventually hired by Isabella Blow and Judy Blaine; the latter, as fate would have it, was Boy George’s stylist. After scoring a lucky break styling Lisa Stansfield‘s video for “All Around the World,” Thomas took over working with Boy George from Blaine, who had become too busy with another client, Neneh Cherry.

By 24, David Thomas had become the fashion editor at Esquire, the youngest editor in the world at that time. He befriended Hamish Bowles, who was working at Harper’s & Queen in the office next door. Bowles took Thomas under his refined wing and taught him the ins and outs of proper decorum. Thomas also met a young Philip Treacy from whom he commissioned a hat for Boy George, thus helping launch his impressive career as a milliner.

David Thomas plans to document his 23-plus years in fashion with a book he’s currently working on, but for “In Case of Fashion Emergency,” he didn’t want to delve too deep into the past. Rather, he wanted to focus on the last six months to make the exhibit more relevant. He will be featuring looks he styled for Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Matthew McConaughey, Avril Lavigne, Chris Hemsworth, John Legend and of course Puff Daddy, by whom the exhibit’s name is more or less inspired.

While having dinner one Saturday night, Puff called him, desperately in need of an outfit for dinner with Jay Z — an age-old dilemma. David rushed home, but impeded by traffic, got there an hour later, at which point Puff had already solved the problem. He later joked with friends that he should always have a back-up outfit, encased in a glass box like a fire extinguisher, and  in case of fashion emergencies, he would simply break the glass.

If you’re in Beverly Hills tonight or at all during the month of June — the length of the exhibit —  make sure to drop by Stephen Webster so you too can be prepared for your own fashion emergencies. Although, I doubt Puff Daddy will be calling you anytime soon, as David Thomas would tell you, it’s best to be prepared.

-He’s started his official campaign to redesign the Oscar in his image.

-And, for his very first entry into the Twitterverse, he advocates his love of…chocolate milk and/or Naked Juice. Both of which, one must assume, contain healthy servings of tiger blood and Adonis DNA.

Twitter has, overnight, become one of my primary sources of entertainment. And that saddens me. But Charlie Sheen fills me with joy and hope, if only because he’s someone with more money than he knows what to do with and just doesn’t give a fuck about anything.

Which is basically the American dream.

Oh, and the number of Tweeters following Sheen as of 6:13 EST: 984,851. So close!

After Trey Songz informed the model that her hair had gone up in flames, she dunked her head under water as Kevin Hart went screaming towards the camera. Luckily Miyoki wasn’t hurt and even got back in the tub.

Funny thing is, I was just having a conversation about this issue with one of my girls nearly a week or two ago…Yes, the whole color complex thing is still alive and very real. Right up there with the good hair debate…Tyra has been known to address the light vs. dark issue on her show…

I, for one, am medium brown, but not light-skinned (especially not in the summertime). She on the other hand is of Puerto Rican/Cuban descent, so she could just as easily pass as a light-skinned or mixed chica…She’s also very pretty, but…

Remember all that hoopla about L’Oreal whitewashing Bey’s print ad?…And consider the successful black female entertainers in the game now, I’d say Na Na Campbell, Iman and Ciara are literally the few standouts that come to mind in terms of brown skin beauty…

On the larger stage, however, lighter girls still appear to dominate…Bey, Halle, Alicia, Rih Rih, you get what I’m sayin’…

FYI: Ciroc Vodka has since put out a statement aka disclaimer vilifying Puffy’s, now infamous, casting call announcement.

On another note, as smart and entertaining as he is…Puffy scares the ish outta me…People always seem to leave him differently…i.e., LOON…and SLIM from 112 ain’t so slim anymore (LOL)…And we all know about MASE, SHYNE and BIGGIE…need I go on?

While Halle Berry and Sharon Stone each shelled out $50,000 for President-elect Barack Obama’s swearing-in celebration, there are some cheaper celebrities who want to get in on name alone. “It’s hilarious,” said one insider. “Sean Combs is trying to get four tickets to the inauguration. He’s acting like it’s a party at Bungalow 8, like they should just let him in. He’s too cheap to pay and thinks he can just show up.”

Normally when everyone sits comfortably in their seats during fashion week they expect new fresh designs from a variety of designers; however, there’s been a glitch in the trend. When it comes to the issue of presenting his Sean John collection during spring fashion week, Diddy’s saying hell no! In fact, the only presentation Diddy has planned is an editors’ convention occurring this month. It’s certainly quite a shift from last years Sean John presentation during fashion week. Oh well, I guess we’ll just have to celebrate without Mr. Combs.
