Obviously Sarah Jessica Parker needed to look fabulous for the promotional tour of Sex and the City 2, and, as usual, she went above and beyond to win herself another style award. SJP was named the Promotional Tour Star of 2010 by the Red Carpet Fashion Awards.

Valentino Couture, Alexander McQueen, Elie Saab, Vivienne Westwood and Halston all made appearances on the SATC star’s touring body.

She always looks great, even though her age is starting to show through a little more usual these days. Whatever – work it till you can’t work it no more girl.

Red Carpet Fashion Awards has graced us with their lists of the best in 2010′s red carpet showdowns. I guess it was only natural for the red carpet to morph into its own entity and for that entity to get its own award. I can’t actually wait til there’s a televised Red Carpet Fashion Awards program, where the Kodak Theater is strictly for arrivals and the awards are presented on the red carpet. Meta.

Cate Blanchett was named Best Dressed for her vintage Christian Lacroix from the SK-II’s “Clear for Life” event; followed by Zoe Saldana in her controversial Givenchy Haute Couture gown from this year’s Oscars; and relative unknown Fan Bing Bing in Dragon Robe by Laurence Hsu that she wore at the Robin Hood Cannes Film Festival premiere rounds out the top 3.

Sarah Jessica Parker got especial kudos for her tireless efforts promoting that giant, turbaned flop Sex and the City 2: The Menopause Strikes Back and earned the ungainly title of “Promotional Tour Star” of the year.

And my future BFF, Leighton Meester was honored for apparently getting her shit together with the “Stella’s Got Her Groove Back”…award, I guess. The RCFA also named Peter Dundas for Emilio Pucci as the “Designer of the Year” and Gucci Première as “Couturier of the Year.”

Overall, interesting choices, but this is the red carpet after all where it’s not just about the clothes, but the celebrity who’s wearing them, and where high fashion isn’t always translated to great effect. As matter of course, there are only a handful of actresses who can truly pull off haute couture, and Cate Blanchett is at the forefront.

Other notables include the always stunning Tilda Swinton, the statuesque Nicole Kidman and former model Charlize Theron. SJP is also up there because she’s got the balls to pull off anything.

Even a bird on her head.

The Ten Things I Learned From Watching The A-List

First and foremost thanks to everyone who put up with my live tweeting of the premiere of The A-List New York. Instead of a regular recap I decided to make a top ten list of lessons that I learned.

1. Sleeping with someone famous makes automatically you famous.

Not only is reality show whore Reichen Lehmkuhl who’s biggest claim to fame was basically kicking Lance Bass out of the closet but apparently Marc Jacobs ex Austin considers herself a celebrity worthy of being a main character in a reality show.

2. When in doubt, take your shirt off.

Last night’s premiere was not short on gratuitous nudity. I’m pretty sure that every 3-4 minutes I was looking at someone’s naked torso. (Not that anyone minded.)

3. You don’t need to sing to be a lead in a musical.

Reichen shows every young performer that you don’t need to be good at singing, dancing or even acting to star in an Off Broadway production.

4. If you six pack isn’t ripped you must be fat.

Austin is a “model” who’s looking forward to make it big again. (Wait did he make it big before?) Everyone on the show thinks he’s giving Precious a run for her money every though you can definitely see what appears to be a decent six pack on him.

5. Mike Ruiz doesn’t think we’re important.

Mike Ruiz takes Reichen’s boy toy Rodiney to the Particia Field after party for Sex And The City 2 screening and iit just so happens the the Fashion Indie crew and I were also at the party. Unfortunately we were not “A-List” enough to grab any screen time. (Bastards!)

6. If you’re gay in NYC then you must work in fashion.

Well let’s just say that I didn’t need to watch the show to know this but this show makes it seems as if all homos do in the city revolves around the fashion world. This isn’t true at all we are also cops, soldiers, construction workers, cowboys, Native Americans, and bikers. (Wait what?)

7. Minorities are not allowed on the A-List

Besides mini-characters such as the agent, personal trainer, and a sugar daddy this show is lacking some serious color. I thought gays came in all colors of the rainbow.

8. Every gay man is a Jack Jill of all trades

Gays are very complex individuals which means that the roles they play are plentiful. Every good mo should have at least 5 slashes in his title to make him important. For example I am a Editor/Stylist/Actor/Dancer/Socialite/On Air Personality.

9. “Delicious” is the code word.

Ryan & T.J enlightened all our world by adding another word into gay lexicon. Delicious (Adj.) – Used to describe something that is awful but concealing your true mean. EX: Reichen’s singing is delicious.

10. Logo finally has a hit on it’s hands.

Logo has been around for longer than most people think and it’s most popular show to date has been RuPaul’s Drag Race besides the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reruns. Gays are rejoicing because they have something salacious to watch after viewing Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta

STATUS Q: Sex and the City 2

I saw the new Sex and the City movie, (not because I thought it would be good but because my XX chromosomes obligated me too), and I couldn’t help but wonder…

are Carrie and the girls no longer trendy?….

Yes they were dressed in over-the-top designer duds but is that even cool anymore? In the ten + years since the show has gone off the air, we’ve seen the rise of Alexander Wang, Phillip Lim, American Apparel, “it” girls like Erin Wasson and Agyness, and stars like Alison Mosshart and MIA. At this point Carrie running around in a turban and Samantha in a red dress with spiked shoulders just looks circus costumes gone wrong. Their ensembles were so over-the-top I felt like I was watching rejects from the gay pride parade. Or the Meatpacking District. When the show first aired it was a revolution. It was a revolution for fashion, feminism, and the city of New York itself. But while the rest of us have moved on, Carrie and the girls are stuck on their own fabulousness (you too Madonna). Ladies it’s a wrap.

20 Things I Learned About The Middle East From SATC2

Some people are critiquing Sex and the City 2 for giving the Middle East a bad name. I totally disagree and have provided 20 important lessons that the film taught. If you’re the type of person who takes things too seriously, don’t read ahead.

1. No matter how wet your lady parts get, you shouldn’t grab your date’s junk in a public restaurant. He might get a major boner and cause it’s very likely you’ll be arrested.

2. Yes, there are endless pristine beaches, but Sex on the Beach should only happen in drink form cause it’s very likely you’ll be arrested.

3. Karaoke sucks in America, but it’s AWESOME in ABU DHABI because even in the most strict of Muslim states, “I Am Woman” and other pro-female fare (Alanis are you on rotation in Dubai?) are very popular and memorized by the women.

4. There is a nightclub loophole that lets women slut it up when they go clubbing. Same as New York City, but it’s good to know this is universal.

5. Louis Vuttion is the designer of choice for under-burkah. Plus, no matter how hot it is, it’s customary for women to wear two layers of clothing in the name of fashion.

6. The Spice Markets are just like Canal Street. Vendors will take you to secret rooms and it’s highly illegal to shop them.

7. Even though camels are dirty creatures who spit and look like deformed horses, it’s 100% appropriate to wear designer gowns while riding them.

8. The proper way to eat french fries with a burka is one at a time, with a fork. Muslims make French fry eating look like an art.

9. The only person more popular than Allah is Susanne Summers.

10. There are four modes of travel: White Maybach, Jeep Cherokee, Beat up Daewoo’s and camel.

11. The cab drivers are almost exactly the same as in New York, only less smelly.

12. A night at a luxury hotel equals one year of college tuition.

13. No matter what Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says, there are gays in the Middle East. They’re named Abdul and they love getting facials.

14. There is a black market for knock-off Rolex watches and Birken bags, but if you lose your Passport, it will be safely returned to you.

15. No matter how trained you are at battling the Meatpacking’s Cobble Stone streets, your heels will fail in the sand.

16. If you don’t have a personal servant, you’re not doing it right.

17. Men would rather arrest you than let you assert your sexual superiority.

18. The Real Housewives of Abu Dhabi must be on the Bravo Fall schedule cause I think we already met the cast.

19. Even if your friend is an Abu Dhabi millionaire, you won’t get your menopause pills past customs.

20. It’s impossible to get good souvenirs.

REVIEWS: Sex and the City 2, A Moderate Disappointment

For all of you who know me, or at least read FashionIndie regularly, you know that my obsession with Sarah Jessica Parker (as Carrie Bradshaw or any other character) is unparalleled. My love for Sex and the City is up there as well. As much as I marveled at the first movie, loving every big screen second, nearly every minute of the SATC 2 was painful and strained as I watched the “sparkle” slowly die in my favorite characters.

Don’t get me wrong, there was no way I wasn’t going to watch this second attempt at screen time for my favorite New Yorkers, but the script seemed so forced that all the lavishness (and there was tons of lavishness) in the movie could not keep me entertained. The drama was lacking, the clothes were disappointing, and the decor was overdone…as Carrie kept trying to keep the “sparkle” in her marriage, I struggled to find sparkle in the movie. On top of that, unnecessary cameos were forced on the viewer, including an old Liza Minnelli (who Saynt insists was rocking a computer generated body), an annoying Miley Cyrus, and an overacted (and yet still underused) Penelope Cruz (who should have just played herself).

Each character dealt with her own issues: Charlotte with her husband enticing bra-less Irish nanny, Miranda with her woman-hating boss, Carrie with an aging Big and the prospect of a 5-day love life, and Samantha, who was trying to overcome menopause and trying to keep her labia luscious. All in all, the drama was about as flat as Carrie’s puns and tired jokes.

A gay wedding, a trip to Abu Dhabi and the reappearance of an old fling just couldn’t give this movie the dose of “Sex” most woman have come to expect from this movie series that, like Big and Carries marriage and Charlotte’s kid, has hit the Terrible Twos. Hopefully, the girls take this chance to hang up their Louboutin’s and give this series a rest.

I’d say skip this, unless of course you’re just going for the clothes, to which I’d suggest a healthy dose of 5th Avenue window shopping. It’s cheaper and will take less time than this 2:20 window into a future lush with menopause, camel toe and sexless nights.

HOMBRE: The Men Of Sex And The City 2

I just finished watching Sex and the City 2 and I loved it for what it was. If you really need a reason to go just do it for the men. Keep reading to get some more info on the hot guys in the flick (Don’t worry no spoilers here)…

Australian World Cup Rugby Team

The first dish on this buff buffet. They only have a brief cameo in the movie, but boy is it one to watch. They are staying at the same hotel as the girls and decide to take a dip after a rough practice. It was a 30 second montage to speedos, crotches, and homoerotism.

Nicky (Noah Mills)

He plays Mario Cantone’s younger and straight brother. This Italian stallion has eyes for Samantha who of course couldn’t pass up the offer. He plays no major role in the movie, but leaves the audience with a great back shot of him naked.

Rikard Spirt (Max Ryan)

Do you really think Samantha Jones would only have one boy toy during the entire movie? Meet Rikard, a Danish architect whose worldliness only matches his sex appeal. He snaps Samantha right out of her dry spell in the Middle East. You get a great shot of his business through linen pants and end to the movie with a bang. (Pun intended)

Mr. Big (Chris Noth)

Don’t let this bad screen shot fool you. Mr. Big still has it after all these years. He’s shirtless a few times during the movie and you could tell he put down the doughnuts from Law and Order, and picked up the weight for SATC 2. No matter how he looks with his shirt off everyone wants their own Mr. Big who will shower them with charm and presents.

Aiden (John Corbett)

The one who got away comes back in this sequel. How and why I can’t tell. (I kept my promise of no spoilers) He doesn’t disrobe, but he’s still dreamy to look at. If your disappointed you can always watch U.S of Tara on Showtime and watch him have sexy time with Toni Collette.

The new poster for Sex and the City 2 features a photoshopped beyond recognition version of Sarah Jessica Parker [click for video]looking out into the desert with a pair of glasses that are reflecting the Empire State Building. My answer. Aliens.

I can only assume that in the movie an ancient alien race inhabits the body of Carrie, causing her eyes to unnaturally radiate and her face to turn to stone. Either that or her doctor prescribed oxycotton to deal with the pain caused by injecting twenty gallons of botox into every crevice of her body. Cause we all know that if you really want a twinkle in your eye, the only way to get it is through an oxy fix.

Sex and The City 2 Casting Recap

Our friends at Women’s Mafia hit up the Sex & The City 2 Casting Call in New York and came back with this report. By Elisha Dang.

What started out as an idea to cover the story for the Women’s Mafia ended up as a fun-filled adventure through Chelsea’s Metropolitan Pavilion for the “Sextras” casting call. Dressed up in cute dresses and high heels, we took off for the event, which garnered lots of press coverage for the past few days, and waited in line for two hours with fashionistas from all over the tri-state area. SAG and non-SAG hopefuls waited in the heat, with powder puffs and lip gloss in hand, for the chance to make their way around the block to spend all of ten seconds in front of a table for a quick headshot.

We were smart and decided to arrive early. Not too early mind you, but early enough to skip the afternoon not that long and moved quickly. It stretched from the middle of 18th Street and Sixth Avenue around the block to the middle of 19th Street between Sixth and Seventh. Admittedly, crowd scanning was fun. People were either really dressed up or wearing ripped shorts and Birkenstocks.

The route was covered with photogs and press taking pictures and interviewing folks everywhere. This was definitely a marketer’s dream gathering and people could be seen all over the line handing out business cards and fliers. I think one of my favorite sightings was a cameraman on the ground filming shoes as they walked by.

Once we made it inside the Metropolitan Pavilion, the cattle pull began. Thousands made their way through crowds waiting to get through a small opening to yet another room to wait on another line. Thankfully it was a little cooler inside and by the time we made it through to have our picture taken, most of us were not suffering from the heat anymore. “Leave the building after your picture is taken!” we were told. And we did.

Overall it was a lot of fun and fingers-crossed one of the mafiosas will get a callback!

Loved their coverage and thought this video from New York Magazine was genius. Love that dude…
