From sandals to booties, Shoes of Prey gives us the chance to design every aspect of the shoe, down to the last strap.  We had to check this out for ourselves, so we went ahead and made our own super exotic booties.  Pony hair, snakeskin, and leather in all sorts of patterns and colors were so much fun to play with before picking our final favorites.  Here’s what we came up with:

A couple clicks and a few weeks later, a stunningly luxurious package showed up at our door. Wrapped in all black with a beautiful note inside, this particular pair of shoes were packaged to be incredibly special.   Not to mentiohey were great quality and shockingly comfortable for a 4.5″ heel.  Custom shoes would make a perfect gift

Update the look: The wedge trend may not have gone out of fashion, but there’s no doubt that the style has morphed somewhat since last year. Adapt your choice of wedge to suit this year’s key fashions, which include marine motifs, bold prints and sorbet colours. You can get the look on the high street, with stores such as Next boasting a range of wedge women’s shoes to rival designer offerings.

When to wear them: The great thing about wedges is that you can wear them pretty much everywhere. They make your legs look longer and thinner, instantly slim thick ankles and are appropriate for every occasion from the beach to a wedding. If you want your wedges to be extra versatile then go for a pair that can be worn with a range of outfits. Those diamante straps might be perfect for clubbing, but for day wear they’re a no-no.

Just add jeans: One of the best ways to wear wedges is to dress them down with your favourite jeans. Wedge shoes look great with skinny jeans, but team them with a loose top if you want to avoid the beanpole look. If you’re keen to work this season’s 70s-inspired trend then you could also match wedges with flared jeans – but the default style to wear with wedges is bootleg.

Scintillate in a skirt: Wedges can give a subtle boost to a casual outfit, but they can also give the ‘wow factor’ to a going out ensemble. By allowing you to opt for skyscraper height without impairing your ability to dance, they have established themselves firmly on the list of desirable going-out wear. Wedge shoes look fantastic with slit-skirts, a la Angelina Jolie, and with mid-lengths.

If you're more of a platform kinda gal, try these with the cutout ankle space and peep toe. Hopefully the giant wood doesn't intimidate your man.

Riding boots

From tweed skirt-suits to Barbour jackets the English country scene has enamoured the fashion greats this season. In keeping with this aristocratic trend, leather, knee-high riding boots are an absolute must. Not only are they versatile – they work equally well with a skirt or dress as they do with skinny jeans – they are practical winter shoes insomuch as they keep your feet warm and dry and with a colder than average winter on the horizon these could be just what the doctor and fashion police ordered. Straps and buckles add interest as do contrasting coloured cuffs. Warm browns, deep burgundy reds and jet black are your main colour options. If you can’t be without heels, there are a few versions with mid-height chunky heels.

Snow boots

Not that the UK really gets enough snow to warrant full-on snow boots, the fashion industry has deemed them necessary this season. Fleece and fur-lined with sturdy rubber soles, hook-up laces and plenty of natural materials make these boots not only on trend, but incredibly comfortable. Think of a cross between walking boots and snowboarding boots, add some class and razzmatazz and you are bang on the money. Some boots are knee high, whilst others are merely ankle boots; you have a huge amount of choice within this trend. Colours are natural once again, but the odd bit of Navajo or Aztec detailing won’t go unnoticed.

Shoe boots are the perfect compromise between the elegance of a heeled shoe and the practicality of a boot. Perusing High Snobiety we noticed these Mickael Flat men’s boots by Christian Louboutin (launching in October).  The mid height buckled boots are beautifully designed, but it made us wonder what the purchase psyche is behind wearing a flat, semi normal looking Louboutin.  Wasn’t the prime reason (besides their wild designs) behind paying the sky high prices mainly for the always visible, status symbol red sole? Jimmy Choo’s third NYC outpost opened this morning in the West Village between Zadig + Voltaire and Marc by Marc Jacobs.   Bedecked with chandeliers, mirrored furniture, and overstuffed seating, the designer shoe brand’s founder Tamara Mellon told Women’s Wear Daily that the shop “evokes the feeling of a Forties boudoir“.  The boutique carries the full range of Choos for women, as well as bags, leather goods, sunglasses, and the Choo 24:7 line, giving downtown fashionistas another place to exercise their credit cards.

This Boutique Critique is about the amazing designer vintage store, 1 Of A Find.  Curator and self-professed shopaholic Honey Moon goes on buying trips all over the world seeking out beautiful, unique, impossible-to-get-your-hands-on Hermes, Chanel, Gucci, Lacroix, and Lanvin to satisfy her international clientele.  She used me as a Barbie doll and transported me into worlds I only dream of.  Best part? The Mod Squad would have adopted me in a heartbeat in this Montaldo Op Art dress.  I fell in love with the digital print, it was so eye catching and well, trippy.  Bubbled sleeves and a high neck are hard to pull off without looking like Julie Andrews, but this psychedelic wonderland of a dress with slim cuts made it utterly chic.  I fell in love with the leather wedges and actually scooped them up for myself (sorry shoppers!).

I never thought I could pull off a Blair Waldorf headband until I found this gem of a velvet headband.  So sweet and a little schoolgirl, it matched perfectly with this lace dress from the 60′s. The chunky heeled shoes kept the look 100% vintage, and the hand painted wooden purse kept a touch of fantasy in the mix.

1. Walter Steiger: The most groundbreaking shoe in existence at this moment is the Walter Steiger Ishi, or as I like to call it – the inverse platform. Instead of the typically shaped heel that places all of the pressure of your body onto the ball of your foot, this downward slope places your weight mainly on the heel and arch, leaving your balls and toes just chillin’. That is until you roll forward and stand on point.

**The first time I saw these shoes they were drawn on a napkin. I found myself in an in depth conversation with someone at the Timo Weiland after party during Fashion Week in February about the state of shoes on the market. I had been searching tirelessly for a pair that didn’t exist. I explained to this person what I’d been looking for – a giant walk-through-puddles height platform that rolls forward at the toe, with solid ankle support. Excitedly, he reaches for napkin and pen and draws this. This person was Paul Steiger, Walter Steiger’s son. At the sample sale he invited me to that followed Fashion Week, I got these platforms and have since worn them to bits and pieces (they even survived a Bassnectar show, as they are now my favorite shoes to dance in). Then this morning, I went to the showroom and previewed the Fall collection where I got to try on dance in Spring’s #1:

2. Prada: Colorful striped elastic bands that hold your foot tight call for attention. The rubber sole gives you stability.

3. Alexander Wang: Zip it, flap it, lace it. You’re still showy in nude.

4. Rodarte: Engraved leather, whittled heel. That totem pole commands a look.

5. Modekungen: Black and white platform – a nod to Prabal and your dual personality.

6. Jeffrey Campbell: Arch support, who needs it? Just chop it off and leave a wooden cutout in its place.

7. Emilio Pucci: A Pucci print catches the eye, no matter what. These could make even a LBD psychedelic.

8. Julian Louie for Aldo: The ikat draws the eye and reminds of peaceful tribes.

9. Carmen Raffia: The color will blend in with your leg, thus transforming your platform incognito. Plus, the flat lean-to front sole begs the on-point stance.

10. Two Lips: The lime straps off the spine will stack you up jazzed.

11. Giuseppe Zanotti: Gold plated thick strapped flats can enhance your look without the height.

12. Balenciaga: The striped platform will hypnotize.

13. Opening Ceremony: Strapped salmon on a heel/platform that will make people wonder if you’re wearing it upside down.

14. Jeffrey Campbell: JC makes the list twice not only for its glorious affordability, but these are freaking mary janes sitting on a rainbow!! These have the capacity to alter your state of being entirely.

15. Alexander McQueen: These will actually alter your soul. The heel is a flutter of gold leaves from a coral reef deep in the sea of dreams.

16. Lanvin: Tanned fringe layered over a wooden wedge burns in the spotlight.

17. Opening Ceremony: The brightest cheetah is the boldest, and his bootie is tied with leopard chiffon. Two cats are better than one.

18. Opening Ceremony: OC is back with the  most bizarre loafer I’ve seen in my life. Made purely of woven leather strands, they are one of the few flat conversation starters.

19. Fendi: Tri-sole platform makes a new covetable shape.

20. Pierre Hardy: A red patent strip in the back makes passersby do a double take.

Find shoes that will start the conversation and you’ll stand taller. The flashier shoes you have, the more you’ll be able to repeat your fabulous layering basics.

And that’s why we took to the West Village this morning, following model Anne V. to the international annual One Day Without Shoes Barefoot Walk. Curious press and vehement TOMS supporters alike marched along the Christopher Street Pier, toes to the world, picket signs raised in rally.

And it’s happening all the way across the globe. Even in Norway where there’s still snow on the ground! All over the country from LA to Dallas, to Chicago, to Newark, Delaware, people went on shoe-free walks and stayed barefoot all day long today. How does it raise awareness, you ask? Well, when one walks barefoot in the middle of… anywhere that’s not a beach or a yoga studio, people wonder why. And then it’s our job to tell them about the plight of the shoeless and what TOMS is doing to help.

Nothing says I’m a naughty gamer like purple platforms with tadpole-like fringe. Rumor has it you must own at least three Hello Kitty jeggings to buy this pair.

Barring the Pokemon figurine and hideous video-game cubby, you could almost make a case for tolerable. But no.

Hightop sneaks with built-in CD player would be a hit. If it weren’t 2011. Where’s the mp3 player, playa?

These Nike hightops made entirely from computer parts get my internal processor buzzing. But I’m afraid the comfort level is a system fail.

Sister to the hightops above – electronics-made heel accompanied by cute bow tie. I’d pay $5 to smash them to pieces with a hammer.

You must look closely to see what’s really going on here. That’s a dual speaker with built-in bass; comes equipped with volume control, power adapter, and a whole lot of “punch me in the face because I’m a loser.”

SL:  The wide legged trousers! The long skirts! These beautiful trends are finally back, but I’m barely breaching 5 feet tall and often look completely overwhelmed.  What is a girl to do?

GB:  Keep it tonal. Wear long wisely.  As soon as you start to break up the silhouette, it can be really difficult. There’s nothing sweeter than a girl in a gorgeous long skirt with a simple fitted top, like Lanvin showed, or a summer sun dress with flat shoes.  Come winter, it can look a bit like you are dusting the floor with your skirt and I think I would just advise caution in how you wear it.  For example, my team are wearing very slim silhouettes with wedge shoes that anchor the look to the ground.

SL: We also try to hide our short stature by wearing giant shoes.  What do you think about the new flat-platform look?

GB:  My girls are already wearing it.  It is a new way of moving on from the wedge. I have huge samurong wedges which i’ve been wearing a lot but i’m feeling for a daintier shoe.  I like to run so i kind of welcome the idea of having a more refined, elegant heel seems so right for right now.

Tom Gunn uses the finest Italian leathers and exotic skins. They did study the craft at the Ars Arpel School in Milan, after all. They’ve created an array of heights from the disco-clog-platform sandal to the flat jazzy lace ups. The creamy pumps have an angular jut of color, and the heel is cut like a diamond. The skin sneaking cutouts at the bottom lean a little gladiator, but they seem to look future-ward rather than back.

I think Tim Gunn would approve of what’s going on here. Carry on.

Heelarious lets you school your kid in style straight out th’ womb. Child-approved, they’re made of crib-friendly fabric so your baby won’t have to soak its feet in the tub after a long day in heels. And if you thought things couldn’t get any more cute overload, the first baby stiletto lines were named after the founders’ own little girls.

If Rupert Sanderson is right about Asians having “differnt” feet, the company may have hit upon an insane business opportunity. Think about it. Home to 1.5 billion people, China is one of the most populous places on earth. All those people have feet. All those feet need shoes.

The store was founded out of co-owners-and-designers Matthew Murphy and Kirk Beattie’s desire to create a launching pad for London’s young fashion, art and design sphere by featuring collections that complement their line of original shoes. Their selection is a mix of the in-house b Store brand clothing and shoes, fleshed out with a host of new designers you’ll be first to hear about.

The women of b Store are “Leaving Dreamland” within this teaser of a moving Spring 2011 look book. She’s waiting, searching, longing for something, as her look shifts from a glint of joviality in the black and white prints and silhouettes, but moves to a more severe box cut.  I feel like her as I must content myself to watch, wait, and long for that patterned jumpsuit, tweed bandeau, high waisted short shorts, and reinvented denim skirt.

London belongs to the b Store man as he begins in a strobed out trip, smoking and stripping between a sharp collared shirt and a shapely jumper. Night blends to day in a working man’s irreverent casual, napping in his loose sweater over dress shirt, jeans rolled, socks exposed. Day fades to night, he presses the club  in that same swinging layer over a spotted shirt. He darts into sharpness, fleeing in a blazer, back to the trippy London fog.

1. Wear more fur. I want to be on PETA‘s “Most Wanted List” in 2011. Hell, I’d kill a family of chinchillas, skin them and wear them if I could. Nature is going to shit anyway, so why not put those endangered species to good use? Drape me from head to stiletto in fur and if possible, blood diamonds — I will single-handedly ruin what’s left of this world.

2. No more jeggings. This is a hard one. I officially own more pairs of jeggings than I do of actual jeans, but the trend is already becoming horribly outdated. Still, on a bloated day, there’s nothing more comfortable than breathable cotton. Except maybe breathable cotton and a pint of Mint Chocolate Chip iced cream. I mean, you’re already bloated, might as well go down with the ship.

3. Find shoes that actually fit me. Yesterday I found a bit of blood in my socks from my combat boots digging unmercifully into my heels. And my pinky toe is all but dead from being constantly wedged into vintage shoes. But sometimes you have to pounce on a Cuban heel and suck it up for the sake of fashion.

4. Learn to tie a bowtie. Right now I only (sadly) have one bowtie, a clip on chambray from American Apparel. However, it behooves a gentleman to know how to properly affix a bowtie. That, and to mix a proper cocktail and to properly kiss another man with tongue.

5. Rely less on H&M. Gaga knows I love those damned Swedes. The majority of my wardrobe derives from Hennes and Mauritz, but as my style and tastes develop, I will inevitably have to stray from the flock. However, if they continue with their all-star collaborations, I might have to throw this resolution under the bus, much like the year I decided to “cut back on drinking.”

6. Bring back the ascot. This has been a resolution of mine since I was about 14 and why not?, it’s a perfectly reasonable neck accessory that doesn’t at all remind people of hapless, blond, teenaged snoops.  Over the years, I’ve periodically worn ascots to varying degrees of success. Once, I wore it on a job interview and I like to think it had nothing to do with my not receiving a callback.

7. Get photographed by The Sartorialist. This is partly just me stroking my own vanity. Okay, it’s completely just me stroking my own vanity, but dammit, do you think I’m walking around in capes, sequins and harem pants for fun?! Okay, I totally am, but I would at least like it documented for posterity’s sake.

8. Find a practically-sized day bag. When traipsing about New York, I like to be prepared for any and everything, thus I carry a man purse that would put Mary Poppins’ magical carpet bag to shame. More than once have I pulled out a coat rack from the depths of my tote, but no longer! I’m actually contemplating a stylish backpack (suggestions, anyone?), or a medium-sized tote for my everyday travels. And that’s what I like to call “progress.”

9. Find a good tailor. A good tailor is absolutely essential — not just to let out one’s clothing after gorging on holiday fare, though that in itself is god’s work — but sometimes the perfect pair of pants can be a bit too big or a bit too short. Enter a tailor and for a few bucks, those Cheap Mondays look a little less cheap.

10. Shop more. The bottom-line to all this resolving and promise-making is that I need to step up my shopping game. That means I’ve got to throw around more plastic than an Ultimate Frisbee championship, roll out more dough than a pizzeria and carry more bags than Oprah‘s eyes.

It’s a tough job, but in order to truly make a change in 2011, it’s necessary.

Where to begin? Black fringe, silver studs and mini-lockets, oh my! CLEARLY, none of these elements belong on khaki-colored converse. That is – unless you’re 6-foot-ten, 250 and respond to “The Hammer.”

Apparently for Lanvin’s Spring 2011 presentation, only a handful of wobbly girls could manage to keep the agony from showing in their faces, forcing Alber Elbaz to make a last-minute switch to flats on the runway.

That won’t stop Lanvin from selling the overpriced torture devices, of course, and the heels will be available for purchase this spring. Yay! Another pair of unworn shoes to sit at the back of our closet.

If you’re looking for something pretty outstanding to stare at, then the shoes in Anastasia Radevich’s Biofuture 2010 collection are certainly the thing. I wouldn’t recommend throwing these on for a night out on the town because something about the heel doesn’t appear too wearable or comfortable, but they would look pretty amazing!
