I met with Sexy Panties and Naughty Knickers designer Pom Lampson at a ridiculously large lingerie trade show being held at the Metropolitan Pavillion, this morning in which she had a booth. The bras and underwear (or knickers as she refers to them) were very flirty and cute. They were thin, sheer and ruffled, so light I imagine you feel like you have nothing on when wearing them. Pom herself was shy at first (it was her fear that the interview would be taped), but very talkative once we sat down.

When I asked why she started designing lingerie she said it was because she “always got the same, white, boring underwear from Father Christmas (aka her mother).” Once she moved to New York, she started buying her own and soon found that the nicer and more expensive things got, the more unbearable they were to wear. As a self-proclaimed “underwear addict”, she thought she had the chops to do a better job, despite having no training. She began making designs for herself and her friends who, according to her, were in need of help in the underwear department.

Now almost four years into it, it has grown to become a much larger job then what her and a few friends could handle. She focuses on a practical basis that makes women feel feminine and comfort is absolutely her #1, while still maintaining a sexy fit and shape. She sticks to all natural fabrics, always testing out the samples herself by washing and wearing them. I asked what her inspiration was and she said “It’s difficult to pin down.” Instead she uses things she sees and jumbles them all together.

Frequent traveling is good for her creative flow she says, not being in the same environment all the time. Beacuse she is admittedly artistic, but lacks any drawing skills, she brings together fabrics and a clear vision of what she wants and leaves the construction to her factory. Often times she says they tell her what she wants can’t be done, saying “Nobody does that!” But she pushes until she gets it.

Each piece features a “love tag” (a silver charm) and a paper tag that can be easily torn out, to avoid it sticking out or itching in any uncomfortable areas, but in the end it’s just an extra little feature that makes SPANK so covetted by it’s fans.

Realizing her potential to change the way women expericence knickers Pom introduced a mens line that doesn’t forget about the boys. Her unique boxers are her second best seller, with their silk lined fly, seamless back and an extra inch of length to nix the problem of rubbing.

Her other best sellers include her “James Bond Knickers” inspired by the thick banded bottoms in the famous white bikini scene, and her original high-cut briefs, the first item she ever produced. Pom loves where shes at and is thrilled to keep expanding and getting recognition. What’s next for this designer on the cusp of global stardom. While she’ll always be devoted to knickers, her newest inspiration… socks. Guess your feet will soon get the same SPANKable appeal that her panties already garner.
