The ruby is a personal treasure to Stefano Gabbana - he wears his own, set in a gold ring, every day. “The ruby is my favorite precious stone,” Gabbana said. “It represents fire and passion, two things that characterize me quite well, and it’s my birthstone too.”

It also conjures memories of the Italian racing red color of the 1960s Alfa Romeo Spider driven in The Graduate. “The nostalgia of that glamorous, liberated era is always inspiring,” Domenico Dolce said. “A casually elegant man driving a sensual, carefree woman in that red sports car. The wind is playing with her hair, she’s wearing vermillion lipstick: that image for me is so modern and powerful.”

Creative Advisor Pat McGrath understands Dolce & Gabbana’s legacy, and always mixes luxurious details with sophisticated hues to convey the brand’s message. “Don’t you just love the jeweled compacts and lipsticks?” McGrath said. “But when you open them up, you get these wonderfully classic and chic colours to play with. I love that kind of duality– it’s so Dolce & Gabbana.”

Grazia Dailly reports that in an interview with Gabbana in The Times, fashion editor Laura Craik brought up Madonna’s new lifestyle brand — and it did not go over well:

Asked about Madonna (the day before we meet, WWD announces that she is to launch a new clothing collection), Gabbana becomes unusually un-chatty. What does he think of the news?

“Good.”

She’ll be ringing you up for a bit of advice soon.

“No”

Oh, OK then. Why not?

“No, she knows many things. She has a style. There are a lot of pop stars making fashion collections – Kylie and J.Lo, Puff Daddy and Kanye West.” He pauses for a beat. “Maybe next season, we should sing a song.”

What could have caused this apparent rift? After all, it’s not like Madonna’s line is going to be in direct competition with Dolce and Gabbana. And even if it was, I think we all know who’d win. No, there’s something else happening here…mayhaps it’s time for the Hardy Gays to investigate.

Admittedly, we’ve been too busy getting sloshed on tequila sunrises to solve any further mysteries, but this case is right up our drunken alley. [Grazia]

From this collection, Prada, & Burberry show, one can deduce it is going to be a print heavy S/S season for men.

While the Dolce & Gabbana show focused on neural tones; D&G brought the spice. The prints conjure up images of clothes from the 70?s and vintage Versace. I have said it again and again but next season every man should have at least one printed trouser in his closet. (Just to make a statement)

The duo also focused on denim in this collection. While many thought the whole denim trend was getting trite this collection breathed new life into it. The blue denim waistband on the bottoms add a certain underground feel which contradicts and complements all at the same time.

When on the topic of denim, D&G has stamped it’s approval on “The Canadian Tuxedo.” Denim on denim can many times appear sloppy or just trashy but with the right proportions and washes it can look expensive.

The D&G collection overall was very strong. The prints and designs are ridiculously inspiring. Now the question in the fashion world’s mine is will the womens collection live to the hype?

The Italian design duo sent down their Spring/Summer collection, called The Net, earlier today in Milan. Besides the latest fashions, the show displayed that the brand is has a great grasp on social media. Besides live streaming their show (9AM EST) they also broadcasted comments from online with a screen above the runway.

The designers also thought out of the box when it can to the garments. The show started off with a classic Dolce & Gabbana suit but what followed had me caught of guard. Apparently for this collection it was all about what appeared to be nets. (Hence the name)

The designers incorporated these nets in as many pieces as possible.By many I mean: tops, pants, shorts, jacket, and even shoes. It was interesting  to see the different materials used in the same way from the perforated leather in the footwear to the material that shaped the tailored blazers.

My favorite piece, believe it or not, wasn’t a garment. In fact I have become obsessed with the mirrored sunglasses showcased on some of the models. They will surely be on more and more faces next season

Domenico & Stefano definitely have a hit collection on their hands that will be very hard to top the rest of the week.  They managed to take what one would consider glorified mesh but with the neutral colors and sheer innovation of this collection the outcome became something totally different.

Also aboard were Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana who styled the ladies for the video, which will also serve as a photoshoot for Harpers Bazaar UK. [Fashionologie]

After sharing her cosmetic expertise, Pat answered a few of our burning questions.

On how Dolce & Gabbana’s collections inspire her for The Make Up: It’s incredible because there are so many Dolce & Gabbana collections to pull inspiration from. I work with Domenico and Stefano researching the archives to choose some of our favorite colors for the collections. I use elements I know they are inspired by – rich, Italian color and bright, bold design.

On choosing perfect colors for the collection: For me, when it comes to cosmetics, it’s not about right, it’s about love. Do I love that color? We test each hue multiple times on different models to make sure it works for many diverse looks. But over time, you have a sense of what is right and wrong.

On the must-have makeup trends for summer: I love that brows are back – we’re grooming them and making them fuller. I’m fond of the play on lips this season with the all-or-nothing mentality. You saw everything from the super strong colors all the way to nudes on the runway. Also, using blush and bronzer everywhere – eyes, cheeks, temples, chin and body – for a maximum summertime glow.

I also got to try the infamous Animalier Bronzer and Classic Cream Lipstick in Venere while I was there. One word covers both products – obsession. If these won’t make you feel like summer is here, nothing will.

- Porno producer Steven Hirsch was so taken with Pippa Middleton at the Royal Wedding that he's offered her $5 mil to appear in "just one explicit scene." After "racy photos" of Pip in nothing but a bra and panties surfaced, Hirsch was inspired to write a letter to the Duchess of Cambridge's younger, spotlight-stealing sister. Short but sweet -- if "sweet" means kind of douchebaggy  -- Hirsch also offered James Middleton (whose own scandalous pictures also leaked recently) $1 mil if she "would like to bring [him] along.” But hey, Hirsch is a class-act! - Whitney Houston has apparently fallen off the wagon yet again — and knowing Whit she probably hit a few other wagons on the way down. The legendary singer has entered rehab for a third time for drug and alcohol treatment. My heart is breaking so, clearly I need to ask you, Whitney, where do broken hearts go? [People]

- Stefano Gabbana apparently leaked Penelope Cruz‘s Vogue cover on his Tumblr after receiving an advanced copy with the Oscar winner in a Dolce & Gabbana dress. Then Anna Wintour swooped down from on high, shut down the internet and removed said leaked cover from said Tumblr. Gabbana was later found quivering in the fetal position, clutching a piece of lace under the soothing spritz of his shower. [Styleite]

- Looks like someone’s been bitten by the diva bug. Pint-sized popper Justin Beiber was a brat while on the set of CSI filming his multi-episode stint, according to co-star Marg Helgenberger. Speaking on a French radio show, Helgenberger remarked: ”I probably shouldn’t say this, but he was kind of a brat….He locked one of the producers in a closet…and he put his fist through a cake that was on the craft services table.” Bieber, never one to sit back while his good name is dragged through the mud of network television responded like only an adult could — via Twitter: “It’s kinda lame when someone you met briefly and never worked with comments on you. I will continue to wish them luck and be kind.” Which basically translates to, “I don’t know or care who you are but I could buy you.” [Refinery29]

In “Paul and Stella McCartney, Gabbana who?,” father/daughter duo flip the bird to Stefano Gabbana. Really, how does Gabbana not know who Stella McCartney is? Are you living in a little Italian bubble over there?

Come on, Stefano Gabbana has to know who Stella McCartney is. They both have huge celebrity followings, including mutual BFF Madonna.

After all these years, Gabbana  must have run into McCartney. Perhaps in Rome. Perhaps in Paris. Perhaps in a bathroom stall…It’s a small world after all.

Particularly with all those egos taking up so much space.

The trailer for Quando, Quando, Quando dropped today and the alleged forthcoming feature length film is like eye-candy. The trailer, above, looks like their recent ad campaign come to life. (Probably because their fall ad campaign, starring Madonna, looks like old Italian film stills.)

A wide variety of men — sailors, suits, blue collar studs — turn their heads to gawk at a black lace (Dolce AW10?) clad woman on the street. The trailer mentions Dolce & Gabbana Motion Pictures and the movie’s website features a blurry image of a woman's legs and a countdown to September 7th.

But does Madonna have a cameo?

Helmut Lang sent in a passport photo, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana by Terry Richardson, Vivienne Westwood by Juergen Teller, Ralph Lauren by Bruce Weber, and Karl Lagerfeld submitted a self-portrait. Alber Elbaz, Azzedine Alaia, Donatella Versace, John Galliano, and Tom Ford are the others.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have launched 5 fragrances for their D&G line, targeted not at specific demographic, but a personality and based off of properties found in tarot cards.

For instance, of the more masculine scents, L’Amoureux, No. 6 (the lover’s card) has peppery top notes and a hearty wood finish, while Le Bateleur, No. 1 (the magician’s card) starts clean and citrusy before developing into a warmer, more heady blend.

The colognes launch exclusively at Nordstrom next week. $65 each, at Nordstrom.

6-year-old Romeo Beckham went to dinner with Mommy Posh and his brothers (oh, and Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana) Thursday night in Milan.

He jailbaited it up in a pinstriped suit, brown shoes, and slicked-backed hair — just like Daddy!
