Coachella wasn’t the only fashion-forward festival going down this weekend. On the other side of the pond industry luminaries — ranging from Tom Ford and bff Stella McCartney, to Diane von Furstenbreg and Dolce & Gabbana and Natalia Vodianova and Rachel Zoe – regaled attendees of the inaugural Vogue Festival with advice and anecdotes on a series of panels during the two-day event. After the jump, a few highlights.

Link Love: Vogue UK

Tom Ford on personally test driving his beauty collection: "I put every single thing on -- I don't wear it down the street, but I want to see how it covers, how it works. When you put your name on something, you want people to know you believe in it."

Tom Ford on his incredible shyness: "I'm the face of the brand. With Chanel, you feel that Karl Lagerfeld's personality has really melded with Coco's - but not everyone knows yet who I am, so that's why I'm in the pictures. I don't like having my picture taken but it helps people to respond. My real life's not like the fantasy Tom Ford world - with naked girls pouring perfume everywhere. It's more staying in and watching Friends on television."

Tom Ford on why he eschews the runway: "The reason I present in a small controlled way is that so much of what makes my clothes special is the cut, the stitching, the lining -- things that would be lost on the catwalk. On the catwalk you have to exaggerate, almost."

Natalia Vodianova on dieting: "The only diet I have ever done is the blood type diet -- I have done it for five years now. The big contracts go to the girls who are healthy - they need to have a sparkle in their eyes and you can't fake that if you're unhealthy."

Natalia Vodianova on negativity: "I think it's really important to say no in this industry actually, it's more important than saying yes. I believe it is very much about saying no, and fighting for what you think you deserve."

Eva Herzigova on being a 90s super: "It's a different time now - [the supermodel phenomenon] was a trend," she said. "The woman was much more feminine then, and we took longer to build up our careers. Modelling is very much based on experience."

Jourdan Dunn on healthy body image: "I've learnt to accept my flaws - I hated being skinny and lanky growing up. I think I'm fine so I've decided that no one can tell me otherwise. OK I'm skinny -- what's next, let's move on!"

Diane von Furstenberg on independent women, part 1: "I was on an early flight one morning and I was the only woman on the plane. On the same day, I'd managed to make it onto the cover of the Wall Street Journal -- which I had bought for the journey. There was a man sitting next to me on the plane and he kept staring at my legs and nudging me in the way someone does when they want to talk to you, but don't know what to say. So instead, the first thing he said to me was: 'Why would a girl like you be reading Wall Street Journal?' I looked at him like 'you jerk'. I never said to him, 'look you idiot, I'm on the cover!' Of all the satisfactions I've ever had in my life, that was the biggest."

Diane von Furstenberg on independent women, part 2: "I didn't know what I wanted to do, I just knew the sort of woman I wanted to be. I wanted to be independent, I wanted to have my own money and be able to stand on my own - not the type of woman that waits for a man to call."

Stella McCartney and Kate Hudson on Keith Richards:

"We met at the VH1 Fashion Awards. I saw her -- she was so cool -- standing in this doorway with Keith Richards." - Kate

"I always carry Keith Richards with me in my handbag so I look cool." - Stella

Stella McCartney on counterfeiting: "Part of you thinks, 'that's really annoying - we worked really hard on that. But my CEO came in one day so happy and said: 'My mum just saw a fake Falabella Bag in Marbella!' I suppose it does show you've hit kind of a sweet spot if people are copying you. But with the Silhouette Dress and the Polkadot Dress last season, we did have to send a few little letters reminding people that maybe it's not a good idea."

David Bailey on Cecil Beaton: "I mean, I was always a big fan of Cecil - but he was the most terrible middle-class snob."

David Bailey on feminism: "I had a terrible time with feminists in the Seventies. They hated me, those women. I think they hated everything."

Stefano Gabbana on Domenico Dolce: "We are in love. It's a different kind of love, but we love each other. It's a difficult word to explain, but there's no real difference in the way we work together. We have a better level of understanding and tolerance maybe since separating romantically. People are jealous of what we have: still being in love and being able to make something interesting - we are strong and that's disturbing to some people. Domenico is like my family - even though we're not a couple any more. I have a brother, a mother, and Domenico... it has been a 20-year love affair."

Domenico Dolce on underage models: "People say: 'Models are so young, they're so skinny.' But Mr. Balenciaga used models at 16 and that will never change. People say they are skinny, but there is a difference between skinny and sick. If someone is sick, they're sick. It's not because of fashion. If I have flu, I have flu; it's not because I work in fashion."

Stefano Gabbana on shuttering the D&G line: "When we decided to do it, the people [stockholders] called us, going crazy - but we need to do it. Chanel has one label; Gucci; Vuitton - why do we need D&G? The people call Dolce & Gabbana 'D&G' - it is the symbol for Dolce & Gabbana, there's no need for us to have two labels."

Stefano Gabbana on Madonna: "We went to see her on the Blond Ambition tour, we were big fans. We were watching the show - she was wearing Jean Paul Gaultier then - and I said to Domenico: 'Imagine if one day she wore Dolce & Gabbana.' Then we picked up the paper and there she was, in one of our dresses...She's beautiful, she's mature, she's a mother - like Isabella Rossellini or Monica Bellucci. She's a real woman."

Rachel Zoe on one of her fave jobs-well-done: "Anne Hathaway at the Venice Film Festival 2008 was a really good one. She wore an Atelier Versace celadon green gown and she looked just like the quintessential movie star. Literally - I gasped for air."

Rachel Zoe on avoiding wardrobe malfunctions: "One of the things I'm most militant about is proper undergarments. Dress transparency can be a real issue! I photograph my clients in their dresses from the front, from the back, from the side, inside, outside, under hot lights... it needs to be an outfit that looks good from all angles and where potential disasters are kept to a minimum."

A gasp rang throughout the FashionIndie office when we opened the red satin covered box housing Dolce & Gabbana‘s Ruby Collection for Holiday 2011. Containing five crimson-hued Classic Cream Lipsticks, peach Blush and a refined smokey Eyeshadow Quad, each golden compact is adorned with a ruby to represent the fiery spirit of the collection. Inspired by Stefano’s birthstone and the 1960s Alfa Romeo Spider driven by Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate, Dolce & Gabbana talk about the collection after the jump.

The ruby is a personal treasure to Stefano Gabbana - he wears his own, set in a gold ring, every day. “The ruby is my favorite precious stone,” Gabbana said. “It represents fire and passion, two things that characterize me quite well, and it’s my birthstone too.”

It also conjures memories of the Italian racing red color of the 1960s Alfa Romeo Spider driven in The Graduate. “The nostalgia of that glamorous, liberated era is always inspiring,” Domenico Dolce said. “A casually elegant man driving a sensual, carefree woman in that red sports car. The wind is playing with her hair, she’s wearing vermillion lipstick: that image for me is so modern and powerful.”

Creative Advisor Pat McGrath understands Dolce & Gabbana’s legacy, and always mixes luxurious details with sophisticated hues to convey the brand’s message. “Don’t you just love the jeweled compacts and lipsticks?” McGrath said. “But when you open them up, you get these wonderfully classic and chic colours to play with. I love that kind of duality– it’s so Dolce & Gabbana.”

Once upon a time, not long ago, Madonna and the design team of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were as thick as thieves. They outfitted her for tours, she appeared in their ads; everyone was part of a big old fashion family. Now it seems there’s a little strife in the household.

Grazia Dailly reports that in an interview with Gabbana in The Times, fashion editor Laura Craik brought up Madonna’s new lifestyle brand — and it did not go over well:

Asked about Madonna (the day before we meet, WWD announces that she is to launch a new clothing collection), Gabbana becomes unusually un-chatty. What does he think of the news?

“Good.”

She’ll be ringing you up for a bit of advice soon.

“No”

Oh, OK then. Why not?

“No, she knows many things. She has a style. There are a lot of pop stars making fashion collections – Kylie and J.Lo, Puff Daddy and Kanye West.” He pauses for a beat. “Maybe next season, we should sing a song.”

What could have caused this apparent rift? After all, it’s not like Madonna’s line is going to be in direct competition with Dolce and Gabbana. And even if it was, I think we all know who’d win. No, there’s something else happening here…mayhaps it’s time for the Hardy Gays to investigate.

Admittedly, we’ve been too busy getting sloshed on tequila sunrises to solve any further mysteries, but this case is right up our drunken alley. [Grazia]

As New York Fashion Week comes to a close, I am in need of a serious makeover. With cooler-weather wardrobes coming into full swing, I’ve turned to the fall 2011 runways for beauty inspiration. But when it comes to making a lady look her best, nothing does it better than Dolce&Gabbana Make Up. For the brand’s fall beauty collection titled “Sweet Tempations,” Creative Advisor Pat McGrath collaborated with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana on a palette that is playfully sexy and incredibly luxurious. To show you what I really mean, check out my before and after photos after the jump.

We gave the Dolce & Gabbana mens show high marks. Keep reading to she how the sister label’s D&G Spring 2012 show did.

From this collection, Prada, & Burberry show, one can deduce it is going to be a print heavy S/S season for men.

While the Dolce & Gabbana show focused on neural tones; D&G brought the spice. The prints conjure up images of clothes from the 70?s and vintage Versace. I have said it again and again but next season every man should have at least one printed trouser in his closet. (Just to make a statement)

The duo also focused on denim in this collection. While many thought the whole denim trend was getting trite this collection breathed new life into it. The blue denim waistband on the bottoms add a certain underground feel which contradicts and complements all at the same time.

When on the topic of denim, D&G has stamped it’s approval on “The Canadian Tuxedo.” Denim on denim can many times appear sloppy or just trashy but with the right proportions and washes it can look expensive.

The D&G collection overall was very strong. The prints and designs are ridiculously inspiring. Now the question in the fashion world’s mine is will the womens collection live to the hype?

Mens Fashion Week has officially begun in Milan. What better way to celebrate than by reviewing one of our favorite mens label, Dolce & Gabbana.

The Italian design duo sent down their Spring/Summer collection, called The Net, earlier today in Milan. Besides the latest fashions, the show displayed that the brand is has a great grasp on social media. Besides live streaming their show (9AM EST) they also broadcasted comments from online with a screen above the runway.

The designers also thought out of the box when it can to the garments. The show started off with a classic Dolce & Gabbana suit but what followed had me caught of guard. Apparently for this collection it was all about what appeared to be nets. (Hence the name)

The designers incorporated these nets in as many pieces as possible.By many I mean: tops, pants, shorts, jacket, and even shoes. It was interesting to see the different materials used in the same way from the perforated leather in the footwear to the material that shaped the tailored blazers.

My favorite piece, believe it or not, wasn’t a garment. In fact I have become obsessed with the mirrored sunglasses showcased on some of the models. They will surely be on more and more faces next season

Domenico & Stefano definitely have a hit collection on their hands that will be very hard to top the rest of the week. They managed to take what one would consider glorified mesh but with the neutral colors and sheer innovation of this collection the outcome became something totally different.

- A recent study in The Journal of Applied Psychology confirms what I’ve been saying for ages: skinny bitches run the world. On average, thin women make $22,000 more than their “average weight counterparts.” [Refinery29]

- Target‘s CEO Gregg Steinhafel still living down that Gaga gaff. [The Cut]

- Some people just shouldn’t have kids. People like me or Amy Winehouse or Anthony Weiner and of course Botox mom. Recently added to that list: Sarah Burge, who gave her seven year old daughter, Poppy, a £6,000 voucher for breast augmentation surgery as a birthday present. That is unless she develops juicy melons all her own. In that case she’ll just use that money for therapy. [Styleite]

- The sky is falling! The sky is falling! At least that’s what Chicken Little would have said if she (he?) was shopping at Forever 21 in Times Square. But she/he’s more of an H&M gal/guy. [Racked]

- Michael Jackson‘s iconic jacket from the “Thriller” music video is going up for auction with an estimated value of $400,000.
- Duran Duran‘s supermodel-stuffed music video for “Girl Panic” is quickly approaching. Jonas Åkerlund directed the clip featuring Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Eva Herzigova, Helena Christensen and Yasmin Le Bon. Also aboard were Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana who styled the ladies for the video, which will also serve as a photoshoot for Harpers Bazaar UK.
Rising and shining early on a Saturday morning can be a difficult task, unless you’re doing something incredibly fabulous. When I heard Pat McGrath, cosmetic visionary and Creative Advisor for Dolce&Gabbana The Make Up, was going to be at the Saks flagship to debut the brand’s new Italian Summertime Collection and Animalier Bronzer as a sunny start to the weekend, I jumped right out of bed. Over a gorgeous brunch, Pat demonstrated the products on two lovely models, talked about her vision for the iconic brand and shared her makeup tips with the room of wide-eyed editors.

After sharing her cosmetic expertise, Pat answered a few of our burning questions.

On how Dolce & Gabbana’s collections inspire her for The Make Up: It’s incredible because there are so many Dolce & Gabbana collections to pull inspiration from. I work with Domenico and Stefano researching the archives to choose some of our favorite colors for the collections. I use elements I know they are inspired by – rich, Italian color and bright, bold design.

On choosing perfect colors for the collection: For me, when it comes to cosmetics, it’s not about right, it’s about love. Do I love that color? We test each hue multiple times on different models to make sure it works for many diverse looks. But over time, you have a sense of what is right and wrong.

On the must-have makeup trends for summer: I love that brows are back – we’re grooming them and making them fuller. I’m fond of the play on lips this season with the all-or-nothing mentality. You saw everything from the super strong colors all the way to nudes on the runway. Also, using blush and bronzer everywhere – eyes, cheeks, temples, chin and body – for a maximum summertime glow.

I also got to try the infamous Animalier Bronzer and Classic Cream Lipstick in Venere while I was there. One word covers both products – obsession. If these won’t make you feel like summer is here, nothing will.

You can shop for these Dolce&Gabbana The Make Up products and more on Saks.com.

- Our little girl’s all grown up! Supermodel and high school senior Karlie Kloss went to her prom with this adorable little cherub, childhood friend Gabe Smith, who at 5’6 is half a foot shorter than her. Gabe, ever the gentleman, insisted on buying Karlie’s ticket and chauffeured them to the prom and in return he gets to flaunt to his friends for the rest of his life that he went to prom with a supermodel. Sidebar, I’m glad that even at prom that girl is at work. [STL Today

- Porno producer Steven Hirsch was so taken with Pippa Middleton at the Royal Wedding that he's offered her $5 mil to appear in "just one explicit scene." After "racy photos" of Pip in nothing but a bra and panties surfaced, Hirsch was inspired to write a letter to the Duchess of Cambridge's younger, spotlight-stealing sister. Short but sweet -- if "sweet" means kind of douchebaggy -- Hirsch also offered James Middleton (whose own scandalous pictures also leaked recently) $1 mil if she "would like to bring [him] along.” But hey, Hirsch is a class-act! There will be no royal incest on his watch because that mil is for a “separate scene.” [TMZ]

- Whitney Houston has apparently fallen off the wagon yet again — and knowing Whit she probably hit a few other wagons on the way down. The legendary singer has entered rehab for a third time for drug and alcohol treatment. My heart is breaking so, clearly I need to ask you, Whitney, where do broken hearts go? [People]

- Stefano Gabbana apparently leaked Penelope Cruz‘s Vogue cover on his Tumblr after receiving an advanced copy with the Oscar winner in a Dolce & Gabbana dress. Then Anna Wintour swooped down from on high, shut down the internet and removed said leaked cover from said Tumblr. Gabbana was later found quivering in the fetal position, clutching a piece of lace under the soothing spritz of his shower. [Styleite]

- Looks like someone’s been bitten by the diva bug. Pint-sized popper Justin Beiber was a brat while on the set of CSI filming his multi-episode stint, according to co-star Marg Helgenberger. Speaking on a French radio show, Helgenberger remarked: ”I probably shouldn’t say this, but he was kind of a brat….He locked one of the producers in a closet…and he put his fist through a cake that was on the craft services table.” Bieber, never one to sit back while his good name is dragged through the mud of network television responded like only an adult could — via Twitter: “It’s kinda lame when someone you met briefly and never worked with comments on you. I will continue to wish them luck and be kind.” Which basically translates to, “I don’t know or care who you are but I could buy you.” [Refinery29]

In a tête-à-Tweet with a friend, the G of D&G had this to say (in Italian, natch):

Fabio Viscovo - I LOVE Stella McCartney!
Stefano Gabbana – who ??????
Fabio Viscovo – ahahaha! You don’t like Stella McCartney?!
Stefano Gabbana – Who ????? The daughter of the singer ?????
Fabio Viscovo – Yeeees! Stella McCartney, the designer !!!!!
Fabio Viscovo – Stefanoooooooo, please !!!!! You don’t know Stella’s a stylist ?????
Stefano Gabbana – What’s she known for?? What’s her specialty??
Stefano Gabbana – What sort of style does she do? What’s so special about it??
Fabio Viscovo – She makes a lot of minimalist sequined dresses… … .. they’re really feminine. They’re perfect for a nude look!
Fabio Viscovo – Come on! You’ve just got to have seen them! And although she’s really famous … she’s still an upcoming designer!
Stefano Gabbana – Yeah, she’s upcoming after 15 years doing nothing!! Hahahaha
Stefano Gabbana – Aaaaaaa …… I see you appreciate nonentities!! Bravo!

“She’s upcoming after 15 years doing nothing.” ME-OW. Someone’s got the claws out.

Come on, Stefano Gabbana has to know who Stella McCartney is. They both have huge celebrity followings, including mutual BFF Madonna.

After all these years, Gabbana must have run into McCartney. Perhaps in Rome. Perhaps in Paris. Perhaps in a bathroom stall…It’s a small world after all.

Particularly with all those egos taking up so much space.

Even if Tom Ford’s A Single Man had been bad (boring, dumb, poorly-acted) it would’ve been beautiful to watch. Any designer with an eye like Ford’s should be able to translate their vision across different mediums fairly well. Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce are going to help uphold that theory.

The trailer for Quando, Quando, Quando dropped today and the alleged forthcoming feature length film is like eye-candy. The trailer, above, looks like their recent ad campaign come to life. (Probably because their fall ad campaign, starring Madonna, looks like old Italian film stills.)

A wide variety of men — sailors, suits, blue collar studs — turn their heads to gawk at a black lace (Dolce AW10?) clad woman on the street. The trailer mentions Dolce & Gabbana Motion Pictures and the movie’s website features a blurry image of a woman's legs and a countdown to September 7th.

But does Madonna have a cameo?

Scuffed boots, dirty, faded slacks and jeans, thermals, wrinkled vests and old-school newsboy caps were just some of the pieces ruminant of those agriculturally devastating days. On the other, more elegant, end of the spectrum were a series of velvet suits and some oversized, ribbed jacket-like sweaters.

6-year-old Romeo Beckham went to dinner with Mommy Posh and his brothers (oh, and Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana) Thursday night in Milan. He jailbaited it up in a pinstriped suit, brown shoes, and slicked-backed hair — just like Daddy! Photos from The Daily Mail.
