Stella’s Nude Is Safe

A couple weeks ago we told you all that Ali Hewson of Nude Cosmetics was suing Stella McCartney for use of the word nude in her latest fragrance. But today we hear that despite Hewson’s attempts to ban the sale of the perfume, the fragrance will still be released on time in the UK this Saturday. Good decision, I found the whole thing a bit ridiculous.

StellaNude Getting Caught In Some Risky Business

Stella McCartney seems to be at the center of her very own lawsuit! The designer’s fragrance has caused quite the stir among beauty folks as a result of the “StellaNude” name. Ali Hewson and Bryan Meehan of Nude Skincare are allegedly suing McCartney for using the word “nude” in her product name. I see what Hewson and Meehan are thinking, but at the same time, it’s the word nude! Such a widely used term, so let’s not get crazy here people, I’d let it slide.

SPREAD UM: Alexa Chung for Marie Claire

In the September 2009 issue of Marie Claire, Alexa Chung models some casual looks that are great for fall. The styling is young-looking without being stuffed with trends; Alexa rocks her trademark tomboy style in Alexander Wang, Wren, Stella McCartney, and Luella.
She also names some of her essential basics for fall, including Topshop skinny jeans, American Apparel minis, and pretty much anything H&M.

AD-DICT: Stella McCartney Fall 2009 Campaign

I almost started to like Stella McCartney until I caught wind of these ridiculous ads for Fall 2o09. The Bambi characters take away from the fashion and are a nuisance, at best. First the blow-up dinosaur window display and now cartoon creatures in ads? That’s two strikes McCartney, two strikes!
Thanks Fashion Copious!

MAG HAG: Cintia Dicker for City Magazine

Cintia Dicker is the covergirl for the Summer 2009 issue of CITY Magazine. This Issue #64 marks a new era for the New York mag, which is now, according to their site, “bigger…a new look and feel. Yes, it’s sexy as hell.”
Shot in Brooklyn by Zack Gold, Cintia wears Stella McCartney and, um, fangs — presumably to take “a new bite” out of that big apple.

Ben Westwood Brings Celebrity Spawn Worship to Hollywood

Enfant terrible son of Dame Vivienne Westwood, Ben Westwood, is creating an American version of his Spawn: Bound exhibition which will open in New York in September 2009. Subjects will include Paris Hilton, Liv Tyler, Gwyenth Paltrow and Kate Hudson, “all ?bound by the umbilical cord of their parents fame”,? says Ben.
The British version of Spawn:Bound is currently showing at the Bodhi Gallery, 214 Brick Lane in London until the 10th June where his subjects include Sting?s daughter Coco Sumner, Rod Stewart?s daughter Kimberly Stewart, Sir Paul McCartney?s daughter Stella McCartney and Sir Mick Jagger?s offspring Jade & Elizabeth Jagger etc.
Finally some art I actually care about. Wonder if he’s working on all celebrity spawn in the US. Nicole Richie and Miley Cyrus definitely need to be bound.

FASHION QUOTABLES: Pink

Apparently Pink recently got a little annoyed by Kanye’s affinity for wearing fur. She sat near him at the Stella McCartney show in January, and noted…
“The entire time Kanye was going, ‘They need more fur in this show.’ He just wouldn’t shut up about how much he loved fur. I mean, he’s saying this to me, the PETA guy and Paul McCartney!
“I was just grossed out by him. I’m like, ‘You’re an idiot’. There are so many people who are a waste of skin and he’s up there. I should wear him. Go on, donate yourself Kanye. People can wear your fur.”
Hm. Would you wear some Louis Vuitton logo-embossed Kanye skin? How overpriced would that be?
Can’t wait for Kanye’s official blog response.

STREET HERO WOULD SMILE BUT SHE’S STARVING
Above is Julia Frakes from Bunny Bisous & Paper Magazine standing in front of Popeye’s, weird choice for a photo considering how thin this girl is (just look at her legs).
”Julia’s vegan though, and is actually carrying a CHANEL vegan satin bag, with a scarf also from CHANEL. She’s wearing a lovely white and green PROENZA SCHOULER dress with FALKE leggings and black and white heels from STELLA MCCARTNEY, and a cute LANVIN pearl bow necklace.”

QUOTABLE: Stella McCartney

“I love a jumpsuit. I wore one last night, at the Met event, and I had to have a girlfriend take me in and out of it every time I had to go to the bathroom — so it does have its drawbacks, but I love them because they’re just so effortless. I think that pretty much sums up my brand.”

Singing The Blues: The Stella McCartney Quartet
I really don’t understand the hype about Stella McCartney’s crew at last night’s Met Costume Institute Gala. Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson and Kate Bosworth, including the designer herself, all wore what many critics claim to be “glamorous” and “stunning” McCartney pieces. Well, I hate to break it to the fashion world, but there is nothing glamorous or stunning about funerals, $30 prom dresses, hanky panky jumpsuits or your dead grandmother’s closet:
Probably the best of the bunch, Kate Bosworth looks like she is bound for a 1920’s themed funeral with that full length black dress and sheer paneling. Just throw on a big black sun-hat and move over Angelina Jolie, Bosworth is ready to steal your role in Changeling.
In digression, Kate Hudson looks frighteningly like the girl who went with the disco ball to my senior prom. The golden shimmer is nauseating and the halterneck dress, well, I owned a dress like that 3 years ago.
Moving further down the totem pole is miss Stella herself. I’m all for jumpsuits, but when you’re wearing what appears to be an envelope of lacy underwear, that’s where I draw the line. And besides, is this even formal enough for a Met Gala?
And taking the prize for the McCartney crew reject is Liv Tyler, wearing a sparkly blue gown that I swear I saw for free at The Salvation Army. The sleeves, front pleat, sparkles and waist high slit make for a sleazier version of a a grandma gown.
Thanks Catwalk Queen!

Project Blue

A new, limited-edition recycled denim collection, arriving just in time for the Earth Day fuss, has united Alexander Wang, Bottega Veneta, Derek Lam, Rodarte, Rogan, Stella McCartney, Versace, and Ann Demeulemeester.
Last summer Barney’s New York collected recycled denim, which these top designers have fashioned into outfits. The exclusive designs, now in a window display at Barney’s, will go up for auction on eBay April 30, starting at 99 cents each. All proceeds will benefit Oceana, “the largest international advocacy organization focused 100 percent on protecting and restoring the world’s oceans.”
ELLE has even chipped in with a David Armstrong-shot editorial in their May 2009 issue.
Project Blue is working on the stat that less than 2% of clothing thrown out in the US is actually worn out. Alternatives, of course, include buying and giving away used clothes, or re-fashioning and re-purposing old clothing, as these featured designers have done.

TRENDSPARK: The Pantsuit
With the New York weather forecast looking more promising and the sun shining a bit brighter, it’s time to plan those noontime brunches, swanky restaurant reservations and classy cocktail parties to celebrate the arrival of spring. But why wear another sun-dress when you can push the envelope and your daring masculine side with a boyfriend inspired pantsuit? The androgynous trend is full speed ahead and the pantsuit, with voluminous shoulders, double-breasted lapels, high-waisted pants and deep pleated pockets is all the go. The pantsuit, available in an array of colors, styles, lengths and shapes, is the perfect versatile outfit for any casually classy occasion. Grab a fedora, some platform heels and a billowy pattern blouse, and you’ve got yourself the ‘best dressed’ award for the night.

High End Fashion’s Retreat from Moscow

The most expensive city in the world, Moscow has seen a downgrade in its available fashions. Once a home to all big luxury retailers, the time has come for many to move on.
Designers are closing their Russian outposts and retreating from Moscow after months of disappointing sales, with Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood among those forced to pull down the shutters. This includes other Euorpean designers such as Dior and Chanel.
