Giant Graffiti Style Louboutin Takes Over Sunset Strip

Beverly Hills’ Sunset Strip just got a little bit cooler. Neiman Marcus has commissioned LA based street and graffiti artist Galo MAKE Canote aka LoveGalo to paint this awesomely large mural for Christian Louboutin as a gift for their 20 years of glamour. Scheduled to be up for the next month, if you’re on the west coast be sure to drive by and check it out.

Culture-bots all over NY have an opinion about their favorite spots to oggle street-art and this zeitgeist reporter is no different. This year has been an especially exciting time for the country’s most controversial canvasses. Between the Banksy documentary, news that graffiti mecca 5 Pointz will be closing, and the “Art in the Streets” exhibition at LA’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the walls and buildings in the five boroughs have been getting just as much attention as any runway during fashion week. We’re here to help you feel included in the conversation – to make sure that you can throw down with an avenue (or two) that boasts tags, colors, and something truly special or unique. In the spirit of the museum round-up we presented a few weeks ago, here are some noteworthy spots to view urban Picasso’s throughout New York.

New Zealand Uses Street Art To Recruit The Youth

Obviously the government of New Zealand knows it’s our arts and culture month because they’ve started using Banksy-esque street art to get young people to recruit into the police force.

Otis Frizzelli is the artist behind these pieces. He depicts four true NZ police stories and stencilled each one on a wall near the site where they actually occurred.

This is definitely a innovative and beautiful way to both serve as a memoriam for a tragic event that occured and advertising tool.

Would totally love if this kinds thing started popping up in US streets.

Dublin-born photographer Niall O’Brien was raised on skateboarding and hip-hop, and his work captures the fleeting moments that occur in those fast-paced cultures. O-Brien currently lives in London and is celebrating his first solo show, titled “Good Rats.”

O’Brien’s work is unpretentious and gritty, and really captures raw emotion. The artist recently sat down with Dazed Digital to discuss his work.

Dazed Digital: Can you tell us a bit about your background as a photographer?
Niall O’Brien: I grew up skateboarding and I decided to pick up my dad’s camera and take pictures of my mates. That kind of progressed into taking pictures for skate magazines and some of my images got used on board graphics, I was actually quite successful (laughing), I started off making money and every year it gets less and less, I’ve whittled it down to minus money! I was quite commercially minded when I started out, which I think now has changed due to an acceptance of the situation I’m in. My work is developing, getting closer to being 100% my own, rather than trying to be like anyone else.

The luxury retailer gets some unwanted attention from a street artist possibly commenting on blaxploitation. Wonder if Kanye West’s recent stint as a designer for the brand has anything to do with this? Click the post for the full photo.

This was spotted in the Meatpacking District. Still can’t figure out the message, but I’m guessing it has something to do with black musicians uncanny love for Louis. Louis Armstrong, you are thouroughly missed in this age of autotune.
