SHOP Lanvin | Pilot Sunglasses, $350
Maybe I should just quit fashion and get my pilot’s license because, as of late, anything somewhat aviation related has tickled my fancy. I’ve got a feeling that these tortoise, stainless steel detailed, Lanvin aviators would go really well with the 3.1 Phillip Lim bomber I fell in love with last week. Totally obsessed with the double bridge and the big screws.

Lady GaGa Offers Cameo In Video as Reward for Sunglasses

Andy Warhol once said “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” If that sounds remotely interesting to you, here’s your chance to score your 15 minutes.
Apparently Lady Gaga has lost her prized vintage Versace sunglasses and is offering this as a reward for anyone who turns them in…

Trendspark: Round Sunglasses
There’s something about these absurd cartoon-John Lennon-Doctor Octopus sunglasses that I love. You definitely need the right face shape and size to pull these off. I must have them before Mary-Kate gets her pupils on them and continues her monopoly on the round sunglass market.

Collab-Ho: Chronicles of Never & Graz Mulcahy
Chronicles of Never’s Gareth Moody has joined forces with sunglasses maverick Graz Mulcahy to design a line of stylish shades. And, from the look of things, the debut collection is set to be a hot commodity for the sunny days of summer.
Under the label Graz, the spring/summer ‘08-’09 collection (autumn/winter for us in the Northern Hemisphere) is a perfect mix of Moody’s signature androgynous looks and Mulcahy’s refined eyewear aesthetic. Each unisex style comes in black or tortoise shell, and is handcrafted from acetate to resist any inevitable wear and tear. The lenses are scratch resistant and the frames boast oversized hinges to ensure that the pieces last as long as their timeless appearance. Plus, with three shapes to choose from, these sunglasses are sure to look good on everyone.

A Shaded View of Fashion

David Yurman

Tom Ford

Now let’s not get off on the wrong foot. I love sunglasses, nothing better than picking out the perfect pair of shades to complete an outfit that’s going to tear up the streets; however, the amount of designers manufacturing sunglasses nowadays has been getting absolutely insane. I mean come on, I don’t even know if there is enough room for all of them! The shades keep piling in, stores are stocking up, and designers simply can’t get enough of their unstoppable “creativity”. I understand that if you see someone else with bills flying through their fingertips you’re going to want a piece of that success, but let’s think of some alternate ways keep the cash flowing in. Designers need to stop producing eyewear just for the hell of it.

Giorgio Armani

Roberto Cavalli
Thakoon and Jeremy Scott? Really? Everyone please stop allowing them to think this is okay! We’re going to get to a point where designing sunglasses is a leisure activity. Their loosing their edge, their unpredictability and ultimately, the desire they use to attract their consumers. The amount of shades are making them too accessible and completely boring. Sorry to report the newsflash designers, but not everyone’s got the skill to craft shades; please, leave it to the professionals.

I’m On it: Bernhard Willhelm & Linda Farrow’s Sunglasses

Since I just wrote an article on how much I hate nerdy glasses, I figured I would find a cool pair and push them as a trend for the masses. So, hope you guys like these, cuz I think they are pretty cool. And also, I got a lot of hate mail for my review of Bernhard’s latest collection, so I’m repenting and giving him some love.

Kanye’s Shade Fetish
I have nothing against sunglasses when worn in the sun or at least during daytime hours.
But I find it a tad pretentious when people wear them indoors for more than 15 minutes, (just in case they forget to remove them). Even more so when you are having a conversation with a person and they fail to remove their unnecessary eye-wear out of respect. What ever happened to eye contact!?
Well, here is a text book case of a pretentious, cocky, eye-wear whore…
Mr. Kanye West.

I wonder if he has a room just for his shades…

This could just be a phase, possibly a disease… an ego disease, that is. Whatever it may be let’s hope he doesn’t try to take credit for the popularity of sunglasses or even worse, create a label!
