This is For Charity: The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary
Ok, glamettes listen up because this is for charity. We all know that only thing more glamorous than an amazing pair of heels is if the proceeds of those heels go to people in need. Yes, I have an inner Audrey Hepburn. This particular event is very exciting though, it involves the 70th anniversary of The Wizard Of Oz, the world’s best shoe designers and The Elizabeth Glazer Pediatrics AIDS Foundation.
I usually make it a rule to write all of my own posts word for word. However, I will make an exception this one time, as I want to make sure I convey all of the information correctly.
So, from the official website: http://www.rubyslipperauction.com/ here is the information, feel free to peruse the website and bid on your own pair of ruby slippers. xoxo
From Beverly Hills to Berlin; from big screens to home screens, Warner Bros. Entertainment has for the past year been celebrating the 70th anniversary of an iconic American classic The Wizard of Oz with spectacular festivities spanning the globe. As part of this celebration, Warner Bros. Consumer Products in partnership with CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements invited the world’s top shoe designers to reinterpret Dorothy’s iconic Ruby Slippers for modern times.
“If Dorothy were living in the 21st century, what would she wear?” was the question answered by The Wizard of Oz Ruby Slipper Collection, a creative re-interpretation of one of film’s most iconic and revered symbols which has captured the hearts and imaginations of people the world over. Designers, including A. Testoni, Abaete, Alberta Ferretti, Betsey Johnson, Botkier, Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Giuseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Lisa Pliner, Manolo Blahnik, Moschino, Oscar de la Renta, Roger Vivier, Sergio Rossi, Stuart Weitzman, Tibi, and Tuleh, were granted creative license and access to unlimited CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements to re-imagine Dorothy’s design with their own modern vision of the sparkling Ruby Slipper.
Since its debut one year ago in New York City to kick off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, the Collection has toured more than 20 prestigious destinations around the world, including Los Angeles, Miami, Paris, Tokyo, Dubai and Melbourne. The Ruby Slipper Collection and original design sketches will now be auctioned online by Charity Folks beginning 10:00 AM EST on September 10 to benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. The public has one final chance to view The Ruby Slipper Collection in entirety at the Swarovski CRYSTALLIZED™ flagship store at 499 Broadway in New York City from September 10th — 23rd; the exhibit will be run simultaneously to the online auction.
Also featured in the auction are select pieces from The Inspirations of Oz Fine Art Collection which premiered during the highly anticipated and revered Art Basel Miami Beach 2008. An acclaimed array of artists were among the chosen few selected to re-interpret The Wizard of Oz through their own unique visions and artistic mediums. Included in the auction are one-of-a-kind interpretive works of art including painting, drawing and sculpture from esteemed artisans Angelo Aversa, Romero Britto, Nelson De La Nuez, Todd White and Yakovetic.
The auction will culminate at 10:00 PM on Thursday, September 24, with the Warner Bros. Entertainment Emerald Gala, a glorious event at Manhattan’s historic Tavern on the Green hosted by its owner and CEO Jennifer Oz LeRoy, granddaughter of The Wizard of Oz producer Mervyn LeRoy; introducing Warner Home Video’s new benchmark The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition Blu-Ray release on September 29th.

DESIGNER TO KNOW: Julie Eilenberger

Danish designer Julie Eilenberger draws inspiration from early science fiction and old hollywood movies, creating a unique blending of eras and styles that one would not immediately associate. Black Swarovski crystals and foam shoulder pads accent Eilenberger’s sheer body conscious designs. Already showing at Berlin Fashion Week, Eilenberger still has two more years of design school.

IN CASE YOU CARE: Jacko’s Concert Costumes

Dennis Tompkins worked with Michael Bush to create an “over the top” wardrobe for the tour:
1. A THRILLING JACKET: Costumers Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins re-created Jackson’s iconic looks for each of the 26 songs he was to perform, but the singer asked, “How can we take it to the next level?” Bush recalls. The solution? Fiber-optic lights sewn onto his red leather “Thriller” jacket, for a surprise light show timed to the music.
2. OLD FAVES: Jackson was going to back his signature crystal glove and socks, which caught the light — and assured that even fans in the back could see him dance. “He was so excited to perform,”says Bush.
3. A MILITARY SALUTE: For the star’s rendition of “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” Bush and Tompkins created a “regimented, military” look.
4. BELTS AND WHISTLES: Tompkins had to make sure items like this jeweled belt would fit Jackson’s slight 27 3/4 inch waist, but says his weight was not an issue: “He was a bit smaller, but he was always thin.”
5. MAJOR DANCE MOVES: Jackson’s new Billie Jean suit held 7.5 lbs. of Swarovski crystals and 60 lights, so the star made sure he could do a spin before signing off. “The dance came first; costumes were secondary,” says Bush. “And his moves were sharper than ever.”

QUOTABLE B Akerlund (Lady Gaga’s Stylist) on Chanel Wheelchairs

“Gaga called me and said she wanted to be in a wheel chair. She wanted me to design it and not the prop department. I took it upon myself to drive to East L.A. and exchange the wheels for some low rider ones. I ordered some Gucci fabric and handed it over to my genius friend/designer Michael Schmidt so he could embellish it with Swarovski crystals. Originally, we made a metal logo that read “Gaga” on the wheels, but she disliked the font and we ended up exchanging it for the Chanel logo.” B Akerlund on Gaga’s vehicle of choice for her Paparazzi Video.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Balmain Fall 2009
Christophe Decarnin’s Fall 2009 Balmain collection had me singing “Night Fever” throughout the entire duration of the show. Swaroviski crystals bedazzled nearly every look, from the skin tight micro dresses to the quilted leather mini skirts, giving off a disco ball shine. Favorites included the front-slit silk pants, skeletal print drapey tees and the always appreciated, über dramatic, über shoulder-padded jackets. Overall, the collection was fun, yet glamorous, 70’s nightlife array of items…unfortunately, creativity seemed to run low as pieces from the collection repeated themselves.

TRENDSPARK: Swarovski Bikini Wax

So I was a tomboy until like age 19. Now I can’t get enough of sequins and boys and smelling my hair, and whatever else it is girls like.
However. I feel the line must be drawn somewhere.
Completely Bare’s Opulent Bikini Wax gives your girl quite the treatment. A full, standard bikini wax, plus “a 24-karat gold spray” (shiny!).
And if that doesn’t make you just itch, they hand-apply Swarovski crystals. Yes. There. For Valentine’s Day Completely Bare will offer a heart of red Swarovski crystals, or the initials of your lovey.
Oh, and just because they’re such sports, you can also choose a broken heart or skull & crossbones.
Apparently they’ve been doing this for years.
What the heck happened to chocolate for Valentine’s Day? How about a fistful of flowers? My heart hurts.
From Spoiled Pretty.

Collab Ho: Kathrine Baumann and Bling Beverages
The Dubai Series, a Swarovski-covered collaboration between couture accessory designer Kathrine Baumann Beverly Hills and Bling Beverages. Each corked glass bottle is completely adorned with 10,000 hand-applied crystals (which puts the price tag at $2500) and then hand-delivered in a display case, along with white gloves to prevent unsightly smudges.
“I conceived The Dubai Series because I didn’t feel that we had reached the pinnacle of exclusivity for Bling H20,” explains Bling’s Kevin Boyd. “Dubai [the place] is at the forefront of extravagance. They’ve raised the bar on luxury to levels beyond belief, and with The Dubai Series, Bling H20 is doing the same thing for bottled water. Again.” Purchasing info at Blingh20.com.

The World Yet Again Dazzles
After a four-year absence from Air New Zealand Fashion Week, World again set out to dazzle the crowd at the opening show. Forward to the finale: there were six show-stoppers so heavily encrusted with Swarovski crystals they gave off more glitter than a room full of disco balls (all below).
The highlight was the head-to-toe crystal-studded tuxedo, which was sent to Austria to emblazon at a cost of $30,000 (last image). The other five crystal show pieces were done over a period of three months by Denise L’Estrange-Corbet and Francis Hooper, who glued each and every crystal on with their own fair hands. “It was a labor of love,” said Denise backstage after the show, pointing out the duo even did the shoes.
For the rest of the “There is no Depression in New Zealand” collection, World worked its signature tailored separates into winter warmers in cashmere and fake fur. The pool table-green fitted top with exaggerated bow teamed with a fake fur pencil skirt, and the camel pants-suit trimmed again with fake fur are definitely wearable for those not afraid of being noticed. As for the bright cocktail dresses, teamed with crazy lime and pink tights, belts and bow ties – there’s a red carpet with their name on it.
Love the red accents for the men, and the lime green bursts of color for the woman. Yet another amazing collection from World.

Sneak Peak: Sergio Rossi’s Version of the Dorthy Slippers

This is a sneak peak of Sergio Rossi’s version of Dorothy’s famous ruby red shoes, as part of a particularly fashionable commemoration of the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz.
Incorporating CRYSTALLIZED™ Swarovski Elements, Sergio Rossi joins 19 other designers including Betsey Johnson, Christian Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik to reinterpret the character’s iconic slippers as part of a showcase and auction to raise money for the Elizabeth Glaser Paediatric AIDS foundation.
The fruits of their fashionable labour will be unveiled at Saks Fifth Avenue on September 4 before moving to Bryant Park on September 5 for the start of New York Fashion Week. Public viewings are also planned throughout 2009.

Personally, I think this doesn’t at all resemble the original slippers, with the 8 inch heal and sex kitten like swirls. I would have preferred to see an actual updated remake…Now Betsy Johnson should be able to do this no prob!
Thanks Vogue UK

Top 10 Fashion Gadgets
#10 – As a lethal beauty, Agent 99 couldn’t resist Chanel’s weapon-wear for the runway. It’s fashion and function in one…IF you’re a spy.
#9 – Skooba’s Skreener Bag wouldn’t fool modern-day X-ray machines, but looks like it might. Fashion is all about appearances.
#8 – Dr. Jenny Tillotson constructed this scent dress to mimic the body’s circulation system. An interactive fabric emits a selection of scents depending on your mood to create a personal “smell bubble.” Probably not the most stealth of outfits.
#7 – All you need is love. Literally. The “Embrace Me” hoodie’s logo pattern, made of a silver conductive fabric, is powered when two people embrace: it lights up while giving off a faint heartbeat sound.
#6 – Cleopatra’s iconic gold arm band goes digital with the Nike+ SportBand. Runners can monitor distance, pace, time and calories burned and then plug into their laptop to download the data.
#5 – Charge your iPod Shuffle while you bask on the beach. NYU student Andrew Schneider’s solar bikinis are handmade and specifically designed to fit and flatter your body. A male version, with enough voltage to keep a six pack of beer cool (the original inspiration for the project) is in the works.
#4 – A tiny sensor strapped into the laces of the running shoes in the Nike+ Capable series makes it possible listen to real-time Nike audio feedback wirelessly through to the receiver.
#3 – Keep your data close to your heart and covered in bling with Swarovski’s clever charm with a hidden jump drive for stealing files (or just downloading party pics off friends’ laptops, for us NON-spys).
#2 – Ideal for slope-side sleuth work. Burton’s Audex ski jacket is fitted with enough gear to fuel a private dj station. Bluetooth technology and a control panel with caller ID are hidden in the sleeve, and speakers and a microphone are concealed in the hood.
#1 – Proof that the future is finally here: fashion and comfort have merged. These Mary Janes are just one of several collapsible heels that have hit the market. Go from stilettos to kitten heels in a few clicks.
