Naomi and Veronica of Modistiskt are from Sweden, so I can’t exactly read anything on their site, but they’ve got some great photos of products, shopping trips, and street style. Check it out, and if you can read Swedish, you’re really in luck!
DESIGNERS TO KNOW Wes Gordon

On May 25th Atlanta native Wes Gordon got the great privilege and honor to close the world famous Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design womenswear fashion show with an amazing and innovative collection.
The seven pieces shown incorporated one of the most unique design elements seen on the runway to date: blown glass. Gordon worked with Peter Layton to create 7 expertly blown glass pieces which Wes used as oversized collars, sleeves, a bodice, and epaulettes.
Other CSM alums who have previously closed the womenswear show include John Galliano, Stella McCartney, and Alexander McQueen.
There is no doubt that Wes Gordon will continue to make a large impact in the fashion industry in America and Internationally.
Be sure to check out his website at www.wesgordon.com and become a fan of his on facebook.
RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Acne Fall ‘09

Swedish brand Acne launches their new line of menswear-inspired jackets and pants, perfectly structured, and paired with sky-high platforms. I’m not so keen on the plastic pants, but I suppose they pair well with the space-age silver platforms. I’m sure the Olsens will be running out to get theirs ASAP.

Designer: Frida Ringstrom
Frida Ringstrom is a Swedish designer who found the inspiration for her new line from stuff she ran over with her car, yeah we’re talking roadkill. Frida recently sat down with some folks over at Dazed Digital, and this is what she had to say about her new line.
“I became interested in the stiffness and all these crazy angles their dead bodies had,” says the 25-year-old, who designed an overall as a template for all the pieces in the collection, using the same pattern over and over again and moved it around to distort the arms, legs and back by sewing them in unusual directions. The whole collection is knitted, and Ringstrom worked with washed-out colours to get a used, pale feeling. “I make all the materials myself for the collection by using hand knitting machines and I sew it together by hand. I wanted the collection to have that handcrafted feel.”
Where are you based?
I’m studying at the Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm, although I’m originally from Gothenburg.
Why menswear?
At the moment I find men cooler to dress. I feel more free when I can’t use myself as a point of reference.
How would you describe your style?
Fun, weird and at the moment my work is a lot about simplification.
What inspired you to put teddy bears heads in the collection?
I don’t like the whole model/catwalk thing so I thought it would be fun to do something different.
What inspires you at the moment?
Paper artworks you did when you were a child, like snowflakes, cut-outs dolls and garlands.
Who are your favourite designers?
Oh, there are lots of people to admire, but at the moment Im more interested in what artists do. But Ive always been a fan of Patrik Söderstam and Henrik Vibskov.
Can you ever see yourself having your own label?
Yeah! But I’d prefer to start something with someone, I think it gets more interesting if you collaborate.
What are your plans for the future?
Finish school, get an apartment and work all over the world. And realize all these projects I have in my head.
Are you involved in any outside projects in other fields?
I’m doing an art project in collaboration with Hanna Lindblom, which is an ongoing project. Right now its about developing a method of making clothes in a new way and not work with traditional pattern cutting or draping.
Thanks to Dazed Digital for the amazing content.
Runway: Acne Jeans, Spring/Summer 09
Everyone knows how great Acne Jeans are so there was no suprise when they rolled out another solid line of denim. However, the true suprise for me were the amazing leather items. The big leather duffles and colored leather boots (I need them!) are what caused me to drool on my laptop. Inspired by the 1950’s, the subtle grays and navys create an elegant stylish feel.

Runway: J. Lindeberg, Spring/Summer 09
Here is another feature from Fashion Week Stockholm. J. Lindeberg’s SS 09 looks are evry conservative and classy. The larger pieces are somewhat unimpressive to me, but the accessories rock. I love the white wingtip shoes and the driving gloves. As a whole I would say slightly disappointing, but J. Lindeberg definately produced some items that will catch the eye of an aquintance.

Runway: Cheap Monday, Spring/Summer 09
Stockholm Fashion Week featured some amazing designers this year, and one that seemed to really be stepping up its name was Cheap Monday. Since they moved into the United States they have been known for their $65 jeans and pants, but now Cheap Monday is trying to move into more high fashion full looks. Although there is nothing like being able to get a full runway look for under $200, I am a bit disappointed with Cheap Monday’s attempt. I love their jeans, but find nothing attractive about the rest of the line.

Swedish Fashion Week

WeAreTheMarket.com gives us an inside peek at Swedish Fashion Week…Stockholm Fashion Week just wrapped, and since the Scandinavian capital is leading the market right now, we thought we’d check out what the top designers are putting out for fall/winter. Of course designers from the land of the midnight sun are obsessed with a somber palette, and gray and black ruled, with color accents. A key item is sure to be the all black suit. Experimentation with shape and volume was an important direction and we saw huge overcoats, oversized bags, and lots of chunky knits paired with skinny pants and slim trousers, an evolved preppy style is important, as are workwear influences. We’ve got pics from Whyred, Hope (pictured left), Velour, Filippa K & Acne.Check this space later for more on Stockholm.photos: Cafe.se
