Varied silhouette shapes, including the bun-flaunting booty short cut, came down the runway in both bright colors and softer morphed tones. “The essence of our collection for Spring ’12 comes from many places in the past, present and future,” say Suzanne Vallely, Volcom Swim designer. “This SP2012 collection can and will take her as far as she wants to go.”

The line will launch as part of his resort collection, but that’s not all that Wang wrote. Later this June, the designer will debut his first men’s ready-to-wear collection, thus ensuring your summer will be chock-full of Wang.

Those four lovely lines written on a wall at the LOFT summer 2011 preview last night helped me forget about the treacherous New York City winter and took me to a hammock on the sandy shores somewhere between Westhampton and Montauk. The young and glamorous LOFT girl can feel carefree while looking elegant and polished in this collection full of airy knits, bold prints and big, beautiful jewelry. They think that summer dressing should be effortlessly beautiful, and I couldn’t agree more.

May is my absolute favorite. I really do want this for wear on a regular basis this summer.

Photographer Olaf Wipperfurth appropriately titled this spread vertigo since any one who see this might pass out after seeing the tightest abs in the world. This beach surely makes the snow in NYC feel ten times worse.

Poko Pano swimwear Summer 2010 collection isn’t the one that grabs attention. It is simple, I would even say ‘plain’. Nothing interesting or sexy. But it would serve its main purpose perfectly.

 The shoot is too banal and cheap. Girl posing somewhere in bushes can look great only on amateur photos. Something more exciting should be tried here.

You know when you shave your shaft and after a few days it starts growing back, leaving you with a prickly cactus like manrod? I’m guessing this is what Sterone was going for with these undie prints. Also, come one guys, Cowboys? Brokeback is ancient.

Nothing says “Serial Fucker” better than an anatomically incorrect life-sized Barbi knockoff. I’m guessing she’s about to to bash his head in with her heel for smudging her bronzer.

I feel this company is desperately trying to make these undies appeal to both gays and straights, but it’s hard to imagine he really wants anything to do with this chicks ass when he’s wearing pink zebra print. Could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure he’s just admiring her tattoo and considering getting one for himself.

Nothing says “Fuck Me” better than raw fish. Wonder where he’s hiding the wasabi?

The most appropriate undies in the set cause just like a grenade this Zoolander wannabe probably blows his load after one pull…

According to Lolo, “swim seems to be dominated by an L.A. aesthetic, and our collection brings a New York attitude to it.”

Refinery29 has described the line as “big bows that look like it was made of discarded trash bags” and compared it to a “first-year fashion school project”. We’d have to completely disagree.

The look is very Wang meets swim, with a good dose of sheer and sheen. Definitely a downtown girls bikini.

Bizarre swimsuit’s seem to be everywhere this season. Remember last weeks leather one-piece that kept the wearer out of the water? No word if you can swim in this one, but you definitely can’t lie on your stomach to even out your tan. Despite the suits impracticality it is certainly on-trend. Complete with a studded inflatable ring, this dangerous swimsuit is the creation of Rio Maddison, a fashion student at Northumbria.

Katarina Ivanovska gets sexy for the June 2009 issue Elle Italy in “Temptation Island.”  David Burton heats up the beach with this shoot, which contains more variety in swimsuits and cover ups (with everything from t-shirts, to shorts, to vests) than I’ve ever seen in a single shoot.  Ivanovska looks gorgeous, and this shoot makes me super excited for summer…that is, after I hit the gym.

With designer Amir Slama leaving Rosa Cha, a lot of speculation over who would step in was swarming the interwebs. Well it’s just been announced that Alexandre Herchcovitch will be stepping in as creative director, taking the reigns of Amir’s 21 year old swim label. Amir is off to start his own swimwear line and Herchcovitch, to the delight of scenester fashionistas everywhere, will continue designing his own label.

The  swimwear collection resembles the Marc by Marc Jacobs clothing line, utilizing bright colors, youthful patterns, ruffles, bows, buckles and buttons. From the looks of it, the line looks mobile enough for a surfer but fashionable enough for a tanning queen. Although we don’t know prices yet, Marc by Marc Jacobs is a less expensive line and one would assume his swimwear will follow the same price-lines as the actual collection.

The Aerin Rose line of separates allows women to find the perfect suit that fits everybody and every body…With bra sized separates (from AA to DDD and even G) in many different styles and designs, you need to look no further when finding the perfect suit.

The moment you slip on an Aerin Rose swimsuit, you will see the superior construction on the inside, allowing for great fit and functionality.  The suits start by incorporating the basic elements of a well-fitted bra (cup depth, specially lined fabrics and strap width). Then, rigorous testing and fitting sessions ensure that the designs on the outer silhouette create a clean and contemporary look around the foundation garment that lies within. The final result is a swimsuit that uses a slim back line, formed cups, bracing and underwire that enhance your natural curves and make you look as great as you feel.

Take it from a girl with big boobs, it’s hard to find a suit these days, with so many skimpy ill fitting styles, the Aerin Rose suit is a miracle. I’ve never found a suit that fits so well (my fave, the one I ordered, is above), and still looks girly and beach ready. Forget Victoria’s Secret, with their overpriced, cheaply made suits that only look good on Gisele (that would be photoshop), and order from the experts of bathing suits…

Here in good ole’ Kent, OH, the weather forecasters are predicting a chance of snow in a few days. This makes me want to slit my throat just in time for Dia de los Muertos, so I thought I’d uphold the masochism by talking about bikinis.

Women started wearing bikinis at stylish resorts as early as the 1930s. The first two-piece consisted of a bra top and modest, trunk-like bottoms. Today, the bikini represents a social leap that emerged during that time period, one involving moral concerns, sexual attitudes and body consciousness. The first time that one was seen at a fashion affair was at a poolside show in Paris at the Piscine Molitor on July 5, 1946.

Though popular in postwar France, the bikini was considered too risqué in America until Hollywood starlets like Rita Hayworth and Ava Gardner were photographed wearing them. The first suits in the early 20th century were made from wool and terrycloth until the 1930s when Lastex and nylon were developed. Early suits were boned and cupped before the 1960s when the string bikini was designed. But probably the most controversial style was Rudi Gernreich’s monokini introduced in 1964. Thin straps were connected to the bottom brief leaving the torso completely exposed. Women were actually arrested on beaches for wearing it.

We have so many choices today regarding bikinis and swimsuits in general, but it’s hard not to be a little jealous of those fashionistas living on the edge. “How was your vacation?”

“Oh you know, got a tan. And was arrested for being avant-garde and fabulous.”

1.) Know your body type. Be honest with yourself about what your best features are and what parts you shouldn’t accentuate or highlight. Just like a pair of pants or a dress, certain fits will make your body look better than others. For instance, a bandeau top is typically more flattering on women with smaller busts. Larger breasted women should use an under wire top or something with extra support.

2.) One-pieces are great for plus size women, but just because you are not a size 2 does not mean you must shun a two-piece. If you have larger legs and a smaller torso or if you have very broad shoulders a one piece might actually emphasize your flaws. Don’t automatically assume a one-piece bathing suit is more flattering than a bikini.

3.) Pay attention to detail on the suit itself: Colors and patterns are very important and can make your body look better or worse. As an example, a solid color usually draws less attention to the rear. Conversely, if you are small busted and self conscious about it you can play up your bust with a swimsuit top that has bold patterns and colors. Playful suits with ruffles, logos, or really bold designs in certain areas can help draw attention towards one area of your body while masking others.

4.) Fit is everything. Just like a business suit, a wedding dress, or a pair of jeans, the fit of the swimsuit is the most important item. Don’t worry about what size you are wearing. Too many women get hung up on trying to “fit into” size X because they don’t want to be in a size larger. If a 10 fits better than an 8, even if you are usually an 8, get the 10!

5.) Find a suit that does not pinch (you should not get bulging above and/or below any of the straps or material). Go up a size if you feel pinched.

6.) The swimsuit bottom should not be baggy in the front or the back. You want the bottom to contour your rear without pinching and without sagging. Women who would like to elongate their legs should wear a tie side or a thin hipster bottom with a high arch. Tie sides make the legs look longer.

7.) With the top, always do the bottom strap first as tight as possible (don’t lose circulation!) and then tie the top around your neck. This has a dramatic effect on how the top looks

8.) Women who want to de-emphasize their butt should wear less fabric. The less fabric you have the smaller the target for peoples eyes. The more fabric, the bigger the butt will look. Also, another tip to draw the eyes away from the buttox would be to wear a top that is eye catching. It can be more colorful, have jewelry, have a pattern or anything else that would catch attention. Then pair this top with a solid darker color .

9.) State of mind is important: Do not go swimsuit shopping after a long day of eating or shopping or after a hard day at work. You will think NOTHING looks good because you are already in a tired, possibly negative state of mind. If possible, try to go swimsuit shopping in the morning or early afternoon after you’ve exercised and drank lots of water (no sugary soft drinks!). Your body always looks its best after a workout and ample water.
