It was partly for the happy young couple but also for a thoroughly pretty collection heavy on bugle beads, sheer fabrics and flowery embellishments. Mazel to the kids!

<span

In the May issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Subkoff recounts her life-altering struggle, opens up about how the harrowing recovery has changed her, and shares her lifestyle resolutions.

Plus, she reveals her plans to revamp her clothing line and talks about her upcoming movie appearances.

On the future of her clothing line, Imitation of Christ: “While I’ve been recovering, I’ve decided to bring back IOC in its most basic incarnation: easy-to-wear staples with an edge. I’m calling this line just “Imitation.” I’m inspired by Coco Chanel and her use of jersey. I’d like to do that with Imitation. I want something effortless as a T-shirt, but in dress, trench, and jacket shapes.”

On learning to appreciate life: “Life is so fast, it feels important to stop and freeze and appreciate the now. Even if the now is being stuck in hideous traffic with a flat tire, I bet if you look there’s a doughnut shop across the street. So just before I lose control, I take a breath and try to remember that there’s always something sweet just around the corner.”

On her transformation: “I started working in this industry when I was so young and such a little punk. I was discussing stuff I wasn’t mature enough to understand, and some of the things I said were so silly and controversial. But I’d like to think I understand it all a little better now. What can I say? I’m in a much different place, and I’d like to apologize to anyone I offended in my brash days.”

On her reaction to the need for surgery: “How could I possibly afford this? I didn’t have health insurance. I’d always had Screen Actors Guild insurance, but because I had been focusing on fashion design and living in New York, my policy had lapsed.”

The May issue hits stands April 27th. But the fashion world isn’t immune from adversity as Imitation of Christ designer, Tara Subkoff has been recently diagnosed with a potentially fatal brain tumor. Doctors say that such a tumor, if not operated on, could prove deadly to the 36 year-old designer. Friends of Subkoff are doing all they can to help cover the cost of her surgery and recovery, but they are looking for artwork donations, to be sold at a silent auction on Wednesday, July 15th, and monetary donations. If you are interested in donating or attending the silent auction, please see the press release, provided below.

Fashion Indie’s thoughts are with Tara, her family and her friends during this trying time.

WHAT: SILENT AUCTION TO BENEFIT TARA SUBKOFF -
<p

While benign, it will be fatal to her in approximately two years if not operated on. Recuperation from the necessary operation may take as long as a year. During this time it will not be possible for her to work. We are writing in the hope that all of you can help.

<p

The tumor has exceeded three centimeters, which places extreme urgency on removal and rules out radiation and less invasive methods of treatment. There are eleven specialists involved, due to the extremely delicate area around the tumor. All proceeds from the benefit would go towards covering the remainder of the costs of the operation, and possibly to the care that will be needed afterwards.
<p

We want to put together a really terrific array of artworks for a silent auction. Tara is donating her collection of 200 pieces of Imitation of Christ couture, also to be in the auction.
<p

In today’s economy, such altruists may be few and far between, but rest assured, that someone exists in Pankaj Shah, the founder and CEO of Tonic. With a heart of good intentions and luck in his back pocket, Shah stumbled into the fashion world, collaborating with designers Luella Bartley and Tara Subkoff on t-shirts promoting non-profit organizations and social good.

Though Shah pegs himself to be fashion-senseless, his overall worldly awareness mission recently snagged Donna Karan and her charity, The Urban Zen Foundation, for the most recent of Tonic’s collaborations. Starting today, a variety of eco-friendly t-shirts, sold exclusively on Tonic.com, go on sale to promote and support four main causes: Well Being, Save Our Planet, Preserving Cultures and Future For Our Children.

10% of each shirt sold will go to both, The Urban Zen Foundation and The Tonic Foundation, helping the Karan and Shah’s teams take one step closer to change. Each shirt sells for $65 and is made of a bamboo, organic cotton blend. Help aid two amazing charities, support a designer on a mission and raise awareness.

<img

Now we find out it’s only for publicity…Guess we should have known that these desperate celebs would stoop to anything in order to get their names into the newspaper one more time!
