COLLAB HO: Anna Sui for Target

Anna Sui is set to be designing for the Designer Collaborations program at Target, and follows in the footsteps of Alexander McQueen. This is separate from Target’s Go International range which uses up and coming designers such as Luella and Proenza Schouler.
Sui’s inspiration for the range is Gossip Girl, Sui told WWD:
“I have always been a fan of designer partnerships with mass retailers, I think it is a great way to bring fashion to everyone. I love Go International and was intrigued with Target’s new take on designer partnerships. It’s a fresh approach. I was able to select a muse or source of creative inspiration to focus the collection around. It is an exciting challenge to try and interpret my aesthetic into a mass-produced product with a specific inspirational source as the focus. I liked the idea of creating a collection reflective of each characters’ style, sensibility and unique approach to fashion. By combining the elements of art, city, spirit, punk and glamour, we created a collection that exudes New York City fashion.”
Available Sept 13th.

Thom Browne Is In Trouble…

Thom Browne’s CEO Tom Becker and CFO Thomas Cunningham decided to leave the company, according to Browne’s spokeswoman Miki Higasa. “Thom Browne had been thinking a lot about restructuring, and they decided it was time to leave to pursue other interests,” she said. Browne is running the company all by his lonesome and may bring on other executive types to help him. (Higasa says he’s in the “thinking stage.”)
Although Higasa refuted rumors that Browne is close to filing for bankruptcy, she confirmed that Browne is still looking for a financial partner and has been looking for one for three years.
Maybe he should venture into some lower prices collaborations, like Target…

SNEAK PEEK: Matthew Williamson for H&M

Info on Matthew Williamson’s line for H&M has been emerging slowly over the months.
The collection debuts in stores April 23, and the latest updates are some sneak peeks at a few of the pieces, as well as a scan from Dutch ELLE. There are several silk pieces — blue silk suit, tan silk jumpsuit, and a silk dress — along with a sequin minidress and a peacock-print dress.
The jumpsuit, above, follows Alexander McQueen’s McQ for Target capri jumpsuit, but is more safari/resort and less utilitarian than McQueen’s. It’s more fashiony and less punk.
We’ll have to wait a bit to see how all the pieces fit — Williamson’s Solve Sundsbo-shot campaign (featuring Daria Werbowy) debuts in May.

DSquared2 Fall 2009 Reminds Me of Mary Kate

So if you took Mary-Kate from four years ago and designed an entire collection around it and then added a couple of trucker hats, you’d have DSquared2 Fall 2009 collection. Leggings, leopard and Starbucks cups make this collection seem dated in the worst kind of way. While it is a collection that imitates many existing trends, it just doesn’t offer much in the way of something new and exciting, which means its the type of collection that you’d probably find at Forever 21 and H&M right this second.

Further Signs of the Recession: Target Attire

Lo Bosworth is wearing a Target skirt that I was actually going to pick up yesterday as I was looking for early signs of McQueen. Gotta admit, for $27.99, this skirt looks really cute, especially paired with a plain black tank and flats (of course, the outfit isn’t complete without the Chanel bag, but that you cannot pick up at Target).

INTER-VIEWS: Alexander McQueen

How did you approach designing the Target collection differently from your McQ line?
Well it is actually not so far away from how I design the McQ collection; I started with a feeling, a girl and her spirit, and ran with it. There are elements which are naturally “me” which stayed the same, the design details and the edge, for example.

McQueen Set To Show Some Valentines Day Love

That’s right people February 14-15th Target will be doing a pop up shop from noon-10pm for their new Target x McQ collaboration. The warehouse is located at the St. Johns Center (330 Washington St. @ W. Houston), and it will be giving city dwellers the chance to get their hands on the collection almost a month before it is set to hit shelves. Can anyone say mob scene? I have a feeling there are going to be way more broken hearts (and other body parts) on Valentines Day this year.

McQ Alexander McQueen for Target

Is-Mental got a hold of some lookbook images for Alexander McQueen’s upcoming McQ for Target collection.
Priced from $20-130, the collection is the tamer side of McQueen — structured pieces with a slight edge (short black trench, studded leather vest, zipper leggings).
I’m just dying to know where the shoes are from.
