Vogue‘s editorial yin-yang Anna and Grace weren’t the only ones to get tranned out for the occasion. Kawakubo-worshipping teen blogger Tavi Gevinson, Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani and other front row staples also got the femme-men treatment for the spread “The Devil Wears Anna”.

If you’re a loyal reader of Candy, and caught one of the 1000 copies of the very first issue, then this news is old hat. That issue was released about a year ago, but these trantastic photos have only just been posted to the interwebs by photographer (and master photoshopper) Brett Lloyd.

Even though she wasn’t even an idea in her parents’ heads when the magazine started–in fact, the magazine folded by the time she was born–Tavi has teamed up with Jane Pratt (founder of Sassy and Jane magazines) to create this generation’s thinking teen ‘zine.

You guys may know how I feel about Sassy. You also may know that I’ve been babbling about how I think our generation should get one, too. Jane Pratt, founding editor and then EIC of Sassy, also became aware, and emailed me, and we’ve met a couple times, and it looks like we’re going to start a magazine for an audience of wallflowerly teenage girls.

The Style Rookie is quick to point out that this won’t be a reboot of Sassy, despite the 90′s being really hot right now. Instead, the publication will “use Sassy as a point of reference for the whole teen-magazine-that-doesn’t-suck thing.” Kudos to Tavi, who’s long kicked Seventeen magazine to the curb, for bringing back the creative, indie spirt that empowered so many girls of the era. An era she wasn’t privy to.

International fashion icon Diane Pernet and 14 year old superstar fashion blogger Tavi have teamed up to find the next fashion filmmaker to be screened at ‘A Shaded View on Fashion Film 2010’, the third edition of Paris’s annual film festival dedicated to Fashion, Style and Beauty. More…

They have created a once in a life time opportunity for all die hard fashionistas and emerging fashion filmmakers to submit their best fashion film feature or short around the theme of Fashion, Style or Beauty and be featured in this prestigious fashion film festival.

The submissions will by shortlisted by the public vote and Diane and Tavi will then select the winning filmmaker to have his/her film screened as part of the next edition of ASVOFF which will then travel around to select cities around the world.

Entries will be submitted and judged via Talenthouse.com

Romantic, feminine, and almost bridal worthy, the clothes seem to take on a life of their own as they drift down a runway lit by candlelight and sprinkled in white confetti.

In a winded article for AOL’s Stylelist (the formerly glorious dotcom’s attempt at hard hitting fashion “coverage”) a fairly jaded New York writer Katie Hintz-Zambrano decides to jump on the Tavi-bashing bandwagon by complaining about the 13-year old’s access to fashion designers, front row seating and overall influence in the industry.

As a blogger who’s often been targeted by larger media publications for my own personal approach to blogging, I found the article to be a double-sided bitch slap. Not only does she put into question the girls age as a factor in her overall value to fashion publishing, but she also does the unthinkable by calling her style was “warrant [of] serious eye rolls”. Oh snap!!!

In the word’s of Style Rookie Tavi, “haters gonna hate” and this article is nothing more than a biased attack by someone who is obviously pissed that even with her years of journalism school student loans, stints at Nylon, and staff position at Styleist.com there is no way in hell she’d ever get front row at fashion week.

Katie realize that fashion is a fickle little beast that is addicted to flavors of the week. The current flavor are over the top style bloggers like Tavi, Bryan Boy and Sea of Shoes, individuals with small readerships (when compared to major publishers) that manage to get attention for looking odd (or fabulous in the case of SeaGirl) and stand out in the streams of black, gray, and weathered which is the traditional garb of old school media types; you know, those overweight, fumpa bellied folks who work at lacking publications like Paper Magazine and Village Voice who for years have taken over the front rows.

These style bloggers are the new celebrities and are cheaper for publicists to book, who often have to push out big dollars for press generating front rowers. Plus, they function much like celebrities in that they gain media attention when money bleeding publications like Vogue, Elle and Harper’s write about how pissed/happy they are at their front row seats.

You put Tavi in your front row not cause she offers a valuable opinion on fashion, you put her there cause that’s the best way to piss off traditional media, which will then write about the “audacity” of a designer to give them seats in second row. In the age of venting what’s on your chest, pissed off writers = more press for fashion brands.

Fashion brands aren’t doing this cause they think Tavi is going to influence buyers in anyway, they’re doing it to piss you off and get you talking, which, big surprise, has worked. Even Anne Slowey, Fashion News Director at Elle has had to weigh in on Tavi’s value when she told New York Magazine: “People in fashion are constantly looking for the next unique boundary-pushing extreme thing to get excited about, but, you know, it’s like outsider art. What am I getting out of a 13-year-old’s opinion about fashion? How does that help me distill the collections? What am I supposed to be buying? That’s what an editor’s job at a magazine is.”

Will this happen again next season, maybe; but with time bloggers like Tavi and the others will be faced with the reality of their own lack of influence. The fact that many don’t offer editorial vision and don’t have substantial readership coupled with the lowering gleam from their novelty, means you will eventually forget about these new players in the blogging world, being left with a new batch of “influencers” to cheer and jeer. Hell, it wasn’t too long ago when Paris Hilton was on the tip of everyone’s tongue, but now she’s been reduced to making commercials for India’s Lottery System. True story.

Basically, many of these bloggers are nothing more than D-List celebrities for fashion brands and publicists looking to understand the blogging world. Their staying power is questionable and most are one-man bands hoping to acquire an endorsement deal or writing gig before the spotlight shines elsewhere (which is exactly what last seasons flavor Susie Bubble did when she took a job with Dazed & Confused). So Katie, don’t freak your shit cause Tavi’s front row. You only sound like you’re quoting lines from Mean Girls. She’ll be there as long as we’re paying attention, so take some joy in knowing that for right now you’re still relevant.

And Tavi, keep up the good work. Coming from someone who knows the harshness of being in the public spotlight; realize that if they’re talking shit about you behind your back, you’re doing something right. At 13, you’ve managed to get the attention of the fashion press. Now you just need start smoking, boozing it up and making out with randoms at after-parties to cement your celebrity status. Cause honestly girl, media loves nothing more than a bright hopeful becoming a trainwreck and eventually making her way back. Case in point, Britney Spears, Drew Barrymore and Tara Reid. Just joking. Remain innocent, it’ll make you fade away a lot faster…

Tommy’s first assignment for Paris Vogue was shooting Tavi for the Une fille un style pages. He flew to her home in Chicago and took some very ‘silly’ photos. “I SPENT THE ENTIRE DAY AT TAVI’S HOME AND WE HAD LOTS OF FUN PLAYING DRESS-UP AND TAKING SILLY PICS.”

I’ll admit that I had no idea who Tavi Gevinson was until this week. I remember seeing the nerdy-looking girl being interviewed at a few fashion shows this month, but was completely unsure of why they were asking a 13-year-old how she liked the collection.

She apparently is a young fashion blogger, who slightly resembles a younger Michelle Williams, that’s caught the attention of people like Kate and Laura Mulleavy, who have started treating her like a muse. She was invited to New York Fashion Week to share her thoughts for Pop Magazine’s website. All of this after only eighteen months of blogging, especially considering the mass amounts of fashion blogs currently out there, it must be some blog, right?

After reading various posts from her blog, I have to say that she does have a whole lot to say and she says it quite well for her age. Although I’m not the biggest fan of her thrown-together, granny-esque look, her commentary on fashion is quite entertaining to read.

Ethan James- Ethan is being seen more and more on the fashion scene (Milan fashion week, H & M, tons of editorial spreads), and has a similar look to Cole. I actually went to high school with this Ford model, and he’s been the most stylish guy I know since he was 15.

Jethro Cave- Pioneered the half-shaved head. LOVE those hanger tattoos.

Fashion Personalities and Party People-

Alexa Chung- Whether she’s dressed to kill or wearing denim cutoffs, Alexa Chung is always on top of her game.

Chloe Sevigny- Great designer, great style icon. I’m in love with her buckle booties, which she is seen wearing a lot, paired with skinny pants or cute dresses. Definitely a hipster style icon.  We know she isn’t exactly under 25, but she’s been around for so long as a stylish designer to know, and like our moms, is one of those women that turn 25 every year for the rest of their lives.

Peaches Geldof- This social always looks gorgeous (as do all the Geldofs), for events or on the street with her fake fiance.

Aaron Kolfage- Fashion Indie’s favorite party host and dear friend, Aaron always looks fierce on Friday nights at Ruff Club. He dresses with such creativity, I haven’t seen anything like it anywhere else. This weekend, Aaron was wearing a giant tulle bowtie with a brooch in the middle, and I was mad jealous. Aaron gives us Midwesterners hope for being incredibly stylish, he’s from Michigan!

Fashion Bloggers-

Pelayo of Kate Loves Me – This guy, and his girlfriend, both have killer style. He wears some of the craziest things I’ve ever seen (including Louis Vuitton mesh tights!), and has perfectly coiffed hair at all times.

Lovisa The Intern- Lovisa Drever is all over Lookbook.nu, but I know her from Waffles + Falafels (who even briefly carried a shirt with her photo on it). She’s got a killer sense of style and can pull anything off, plus adds to the crazy personalities of W + F, who are some of my favorite people.

Six Six Sick Girls- These hosts and bloggers DIY matching outfits for their events, which include everything from red wigs to elbow gloves. They not only have a crazy (and matching) sense of DIY style, they also post some (literally) sick stuff on their blog.

Kirby Marzec- Fashion Indie’s own managing editor, Kirby not only knows everything about every designer, and what’s going to be hot next season, but she also isn’t afraid to pull it off. Whether it’s drop (to the knee) crotch pants, DIY ripped tees, or metal vests, you can be assured that Kirby will wear it, and she’ll wear it damn well.

Jazzi McG- We had a half hour long talk the other day about how much we love Jazzi’s blog, and her style.  A queen of DIYing and always dressed perfectly for the occasion, she’s definitely one to watch.

Tavi of Style Rookie-  Tavi is no rookie, maybe in the way that ‘Rookie of the Year’ becomes a professional baseball player, Tavi dresses better than some veterans of fashion.

Camille of Childhood Flames- Another not-even-legal fashion blogger showing that you don’t have to have a career to be fashionable, this sixteen year old is a pro at mixing designer goods with things we can afford, and is also taking advantage of the DIY world.

Lucas Logan- This 18-year-old from LA is all over the internet, model/blogger (Stylish Kids In Riot)/designer, Lucas is California’s newest ‘It’ Kid, braces and all.

The Veronicas- I’ve followed The Veronicas since I was in high school, and their style has definitely evolved into rocker chic. They always look good separately, and even better together, on stage or off, and aren’t afraid to take risks.

His name is Arlo Weiner, and his dad is no other than Matt Weiner, the man responsible for the ever so famous Mad Men. Little Arlo is just 8 years old, and says he plans on getting into designing as soon as his mother buys him a sewing machine.

Are you kidding? This kid totally rules. Though he isn’t always spot on with his looks, isn’t that what fashion is all about, trials and tribulations. So Arlo, start working on your sweet talk and start commenting on Tavi’s blog, who knows you two could become the mega couple that saves the fashion industry.

By now everyone who knows online fashion should know who the infamous Tavi is. For those of you who don’t, she is a cute little 12 year old girl who blogs about her daily fashion choices. Her blog is Style Rookie.

She is hip, she is cool, and it is no surprise that more people are trying to ride her coat tail to success. Caroline the Hipster is one particular character who is trying to be her own little version of Tavi, and I am completely serious that her blog, video, music, and website in general makes me want to jab railroad spikes into my eyes and hang myself with fishing line. You may that think this is a bit much, but she is an embarrassment to the fashion world, and possibly even the hipster nation (yeah, it’s so bad that I feel bad for hipsters).

Everything Tavi has done, this girl has negated it. She is a self proclaimed hipster from Upstate New York, who gives tips on a lifestyle she doesn’t even seem to know anything about. She even goes so far as saying her dream goal is to model for American Apparel, and more or less name drops the company every other sentence that comes out of her mouth. Caroline, it’s really bad when you are giving a company that much publicity and Dov Charney still wants nothing to do with you!

I am done giving this girl undeserving press, and I hope everyone reading this, after watching the video, is just as angry as I am right now. I would love for Caroline to comment or e-mail me or something, so I can figure out how much I have to pay her to never write or videotape herself again. “Do, Do You Got A First Aid Kit,” for her face! This Danity Kane singer is always wearing to much makeup and not enough clothes. Aubrey O’Day used to look good, but she has really been a tranny mess of late.

Amy Winehouse used to be such a cute innocent girl from England. She used to dress well, and fairly conservative too. Now she is a cracked out drug and alcohol abuser who spends more time “powdering her nose” than getting dressed (if she event puts clothes on).

She started out as a “Heroine Chic” hipster forerunner. Now Cory Kennedy is just a heroine user who just blends in with all the Williamsburg hipsters. She has become surprisingly unoriginal, and could seriously use a shower.

I can’t stand the fact that Rihanna is tricking the impressionable minds of the American youth that leather leggings are fashionable. Since her boy toy Spencer came out and said how he gets paid to go places and gets all this free stuff, we can’t help but think that the disgusting clothes Heidi wears were free. Heidi is exactly what fashion shouldn’t be. Her style is terrible and as fake as her chest…and nose…and hair color…and reality show!

Well Tila Tequila does dress right for the job of being the biggest MySpace whore of all time. She is the only one with bad enough style that both guys and girls don’t want to date her.

This self proclaimed “trendsetter” couldn’t be any further from that in my eyes. When you show up to red carpet events in graduation gowns and turbans claiming to be fashionable you know you have a problem. You know you aren’t looking so good when every other poorly dressed person on this list is complimenting you, and every one on the best dressed list is laughing at you from a distance. I will say his best accessory is his little “mushroom cut” rocking friend Anna Wintour, but only because it dumbs down his awfulness. Fashion should be different and outlandish at the time, but practical at the same time. Andre doesn’t have that.
