Ever since the tanning tax was instated a couple of weeks ago, salon owners have been praying that the extra cost wouldn’t cut the number of their sales. Well, long story short, those dreams just haven’t come true. The new 10% tax has already caused a huge dip in the tanning population. Experts, referring to the issue as the tanning “genocide”, have projected that the loss will result in over 9,000 lost jobs by the end of 2010, along with 1,000 business closures. Guess they’ll have to find a safer line of work!

If you were ever thinking of getting some botox, now there’s yet another reason to reconsider. Reportedly to make up for the immense health care issues, some folks over at the Senate Finance Committee were considering adding a 10 percent surtax onto cosmetic surgeries and procedures. Though they think it may be a great solution, the tax isn’t expected to follow through.
