Hudson’s emotional performance was one of several poignant moments during the telecast, including Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt paying tribute to the late Etta James and Amy Winehouse‘s parents accepting their daughter’s trophy with Tony Bennett for their duet, “Body and Soul.”

While Adele had to hitch a U-Haul to her limo to take home her six trophies, the Foo Fighters walked away with five including Best Rock Album for Wasting Light while Kanye West won four, including Best Rap Album for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Best Rap Song for “All of the Lights.”

Last but certainly not least, one Ms. Diana Ross was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, her first Grammy after 800 years in the business. The supreme diva took to the stage in a cloud of hair at the end of the night to present Adele with her Album of the Year award. And while the show featured countless moments that would best be forgotten — I’m looking at you Katy Perry and Taylor Swift — the symbolic passing of the torch from Whitney to Jennifer and Ms. Ross to Adele made this a night to remember.

Though this list is kind of arbitrary — earnings are based on pre-tax income and don’t include management/agent fees — one cannot deny the global phenomenon that is Lady Gaga. The Swedish superstar’s Body Talk series was one (or rather three) of the best albums to come out last year and her epic ode to the self-samba, “Dancing on My Own” has yet to leave my iPod rotation. It warms what’s left of my heart to see her getting some much-deserved attention, especially after being snubbed this year at the Grammys.

Sidebar: I mean, really, Teenage Dream? But I promised myself I wouldn’t get too upset about it, especially after that incident last year with Taylor Swift.

Joining Robyn in Elle‘s “Music Issue,” out April 12th, will be the Messiah also known as Beyoncé, Florence Welch (of the Machine), hair-whipper Willow Smith, American Idol judge and apparently-still-a-”singer” J. Lo, the baddest bitch in the rap game Nicki Minaj, multi-hyphenate supermom Gwen Stefani, blue-eyed soul songstress Adele, Oscar and Grammy-winner Jennifer Hudson, the incomparable Stevie Nicks and the Queen herself, Aretha Franklin.

That’s quite the line-up and the cover is quite a get for Robyn, who will also be performing April 11th as part of  Elle‘s second annual “Women in Music” event at the Music Box in Hollywood.

So West Coast gays, I expect you all to rally in support. After all, good pop music must be treasured and nurtured like the sequin-clad bird of paradise that it is.

Last Monday, I packed my best workout drag and hoofed it over to David Barton Gym’s Chelsea location for one of their new Spring group training classes, Muscle Playground. From the name alone I thought, ”Ooh, fun! I get to workout on a jungle gym and maybe play on a swing!” Well, color me wrong. Painfully wrong.

First of all, the gym was exquisite. My shitty neighborhood gym has nothing on David Barton’s luxury health facilities — this is haute couture fitness. Walking in, I was struck by how unlike a gym it feels and then I was struck by the giant chandelier hanging in the lobby. Even the locker rooms were well-appointed.

This high-end concept is the result of a design process that David Barton himself calls “excruciating,” between Studio Sofield and Barton. Being very involved in the design, look and feel of his gyms, Barton revealed, ”Sometimes I’ve spent months just choosing a paint color for the ceiling.”

Once changed, I headed to the studio for my workout. Muscle Playground may sound like all fun and games, but little did I know that when I left work that night, my actual work was just beginning. The class promises to help you “tune into your body and connect to your muscles like never before.” I can easily say that my muscles and I have never been closer…though my legs were not on speaking terms with me for a few days afterwards.

The playground consisted of a series of lunges, squats, and what soon became the bane of my existence, wall-sits, which completely annihilated my lower half. All the while, our super cute trainer (I mean, that’s reason enough to join if you ask me) kept encouraging us to dig deeper, squat lower and not succumb to the urge to drop dead on the hardwood floors. As an extra motivator, or punishment depending on how you view it, he would stand on the thighs of some of the wall-sitters, prompting me to hope that for the first time in my life a hot guy would completely ignore me.

I can see why Muscle Playground is one of Barton’s favorite classes. He claims they help people “come to terms with their fear and loathing of weights.” And once all was said and done and I had dropped about 3 lbs of water weight from sweating, I was filled with a sense of accomplishment. I made it through and despite the pain, I felt great. Furthermore, I learned some new exercises to incorporate into my own workouts.

Muscle Playground was really one of the best and most intense workouts I’ve had in a long time and my gams have never looked better. David Barton Gym offers a plethora of other great classes, such as Six Pack Attack, Pain and Pleasure and Cycle Clinic to help you burn off those winter pounds. But remember, you can’t lose weight if you’re eating gross food all the time. Like David said, “Carbs are your mortal enemy.”  He suggests they don’t exceed more than 40% of your daily caloric intake. But like my other mortal enemies — Taylor Swift, polyester and religion — I want absolutely nothing to do with them.

Right before Fashion Week “officially” commenced Fashion Indie was invited to the THEIA Fall 2011 presentation.We were treated to a lovely presentation of the collection by Creative Director, Don O’Neill. The collection was inspired by the Greek god Theia who possessed  the incredible power of light. You can see the inspiration of this through the glimmering designs on the dresses. All of the dresses from the cocktail frocks to the full length gowns were giving a sense of beauty, elegance, and pizazz. The girl who wears a THEIA dress is bound to be noticed the second she steps into a room.

The best part of the presentation had to be seeing the original sketches of the collection. It is completely fascinating to see how a dress goes from paper to real life.

From the looks of the collection it wouldn’t be surprising to see a lot of the dresses hitting the red carpets this season.

Kris Kristofferson, Babs’ co-Star Is Born, will dig himself up from wherever he’s been hiding to introduce the legend, who is nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, Love Is the Answer.

Streisand joins Cee Lo Green, fellow Oscar-winner *choke* Gwyneth Paltrow, Mick Jagger, Justin Bieber and Arcade Fire on the list of performers for the 52nd Annual awards show.

Do you think Babs has the Bieber Fever? What if they do a duet to “Enough Is Enough” and Bieber sings the Donna Summer part? Meanwhile, this already sounds better than that Stevie Nicks-Taylor Swift debacle from last year.

Sure, why not? It seems tweenaged girls are dictating the shape of this year, four days in, meaning that 2011 has already nosedived straight into hell.

While we’re at it, let’s just oust Obama and elect Bieber as President, Taylor Swift can be his VP, Katy Perry as Secretary of State and the cast of the Jersey Shore can make up the rest of the Cabinet.

One nation under Bieber, indivisible, with jeggings and Twitter for all.

1. Wear more fur. I want to be on PETA‘s “Most Wanted List” in 2011. Hell, I’d kill a family of chinchillas, skin them and wear them if I could. Nature is going to shit anyway, so why not put those endangered species to good use? Drape me from head to stiletto in fur and if possible, blood diamonds — I will single-handedly ruin what’s left of this world.

2. No more jeggings. This is a hard one. I officially own more pairs of jeggings than I do of actual jeans, but the trend is already becoming horribly outdated. Still, on a bloated day, there’s nothing more comfortable than breathable cotton. Except maybe breathable cotton and a pint of Mint Chocolate Chip iced cream. I mean, you’re already bloated, might as well go down with the ship.

3. Find shoes that actually fit me. Yesterday I found a bit of blood in my socks from my combat boots digging unmercifully into my heels. And my pinky toe is all but dead from being constantly wedged into vintage shoes. But sometimes you have to pounce on a Cuban heel and suck it up for the sake of fashion.

4. Learn to tie a bowtie. Right now I only (sadly) have one bowtie, a clip on chambray from American Apparel. However, it behooves a gentleman to know how to properly affix a bowtie. That, and to mix a proper cocktail and to properly kiss another man with tongue.

5. Rely less on H&M. Gaga knows I love those damned Swedes. The majority of my wardrobe derives from Hennes and Mauritz, but as my style and tastes develop, I will inevitably have to stray from the flock. However, if they continue with their all-star collaborations, I might have to throw this resolution under the bus, much like the year I decided to “cut back on drinking.”

6. Bring back the ascot. This has been a resolution of mine since I was about 14 and why not?, it’s a perfectly reasonable neck accessory that doesn’t at all remind people of hapless, blond, teenaged snoops.  Over the years, I’ve periodically worn ascots to varying degrees of success. Once, I wore it on a job interview and I like to think it had nothing to do with my not receiving a callback.

7. Get photographed by The Sartorialist. This is partly just me stroking my own vanity. Okay, it’s completely just me stroking my own vanity, but dammit, do you think I’m walking around in capes, sequins and harem pants for fun?! Okay, I totally am, but I would at least like it documented for posterity’s sake.

8. Find a practically-sized day bag. When traipsing about New York, I like to be prepared for any and everything, thus I carry a man purse that would put Mary Poppins’ magical carpet bag to shame. More than once have I pulled out a coat rack from the depths of my tote, but no longer! I’m actually contemplating a stylish backpack (suggestions, anyone?), or a medium-sized tote for my everyday travels. And that’s what I like to call “progress.”

9. Find a good tailor. A good tailor is absolutely essential — not just to let out one’s clothing after gorging on holiday fare, though that in itself is god’s work — but sometimes the perfect pair of pants can be a bit too big or a bit too short. Enter a tailor and for a few bucks, those Cheap Mondays look a little less cheap.

10. Shop more. The bottom-line to all this resolving and promise-making is that I need to step up my shopping game. That means I’ve got to throw around more plastic than an Ultimate Frisbee championship, roll out more dough than a pizzeria and carry more bags than Oprah‘s eyes.

It’s a tough job, but in order to truly make a change in 2011, it’s necessary.

Maybe I’m just in a bad mood after reading the Grammy nominations heavily featuring another talentless, completely overrated pop star, Katy Perry. Oh, and also Rihanna.

Maybe I’m just bitter that the entertainment industry is at an all-time aestehtic low where mediocrity is awarded, nay, championed.

Maybe I’m just annoyed that at 20 years old, Taylor Swift has achieved so much for doing SO little, while other artists with far more talent who are far more interesting will continue to toil and struggle, sustained only by the passion for their craft and a healthy drug habit.

But whatever it is, I have absolutely no faith in pop culture anymore. I, who was your biggest fan. How could you, zeitgeist? How could you turn so violently? And who is to blame?

9/11, that’s who.Everything started sucking hardcore after that. The economy, Washington D.C., pop culture. It all went to hell in a knock-off Chanel handbag.

Don’t you see? By supporting the Taylor Swifts, Rihannas and Katy Perrys of the world, we’re just letting the terrorists win. Won’t someone just think of the children?

If you’re at all like me (read: drunk), then you’re probably wondering “Where in gay hell is Robyn?” Well, luckily (or not depending on your view of winning a Grammy) our pop maven from Sweden is nominated for Best Dance Recording for “Dancing On My Own,” i.e. “The Best Song of 2010.”

The Grammys really don’t reflect what’s going on in music today therefore they don’t matter. Hell, I can’t remember the last time then was the Grammys did matter?

Oh, that’s right:

A bang is great for concealing a large fore- or fivehead, just ask Megamind understudy, Tyra Banks.

They’re also good for covering a bald spot or for testifying at the Hague, both useful to Tyra’s archnemesis, Naomi Campbell.

The China bang is the most severe of bangs, straight as a pin and twice as sharp. Katie Holmes traveled to the Far East and brought back a bang that did what Tom Cruise and his team of Scientologists couldn’t: gave her some personality.

Then there’s the sloppy bang that’s more playful and is favored by many a soccer mom, such as this mother of two, Jennifer Lopez, who is on her way to pick up the twins in the minivan.

Rihanna‘s career was founded on a bang. After she bobbed it, she side-banged it and her career took off under the aegis of an Umbrella-ella-ella.

Lea Michele (#5), Kristin Stewart (#7) Taylor Swift (#8) and Olivia Palermo (#9) somehow all made the top 10. I know this is Teen Vogue, but let’s raise the bar a little and maybe swap ‘em out for Emma Watson (#16), Keira Knightley (#20), Chloë Sevigny (#18) and Freida Pinto (#21).

Though I will say that I am glad that Kelly Osborune (#25) made the list. She’s really come into her own style, plus I love her with Joan Rivers on E!’s Fashion Police. If only they would get rid of that damned orange skeleton, Giuliana Rancic.

Meanwhile, three out of four Gossip Girls made the top 50: Leighton Meester (#19) and Jessica Szohr (#32), however (non-teen) Vogue‘s Best Dressed cover girl Blake Lively has to settle for #23. Surprise surprise, Taylor Swift has decided to develop a perfume. Seems like it was only a matter of time. The singer has linked with Elizabeth Arden to develop a scent set to hit store shelves next fall. This can either be really good or pretty unfortunate. I’m going to hope for the former, but I can’t help it be a little skeptical.

Who Do You Wanna See Next on Dirty Little Secrets?

My niece went to see Taylor Swift (and also Justin Bieber, Kellie Pickler and some other people I forget at the moment) and she said Taylor Swift put on an amazing show. She tells a story about a breakup as she performs her songs, and apparently swings her hair around A LOT. Of course, the first thing I asked was if she wore her hair curly or straight. It was curly, natch.

But at the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night, Taylor changed it up and hit the red carpet with her hair super sleek and straight, parted to one side. She also wore a makeup look she tends to favor: dramatic cat-eye liner. Taylor’s dress was by Galliano with Lorraine Schwartz hoop earrings and Christian Louboutin for 3.1 Phillip Lim sandals. I am not in love with the color or style of the dress, but it’s cute and age appropriate, so I also don’t totally hate it. But I really love her hair and makeup. Overall, I think she looks amazing.

I personally favor the look on Taylor. It just seems to suit her better, style-wise, and I also like how her headband matches the piping in the dress. Carmen’s boots should never be seen in public, especially with this outfit.
