Drop the waist low, fringe it forward, jazz it art deco and you’ve got Gucci Spring 2012. Frida Giannini turned out 20s in Milan, and she was not the only designer to do so this fashion week – think Marchesa, Temperley London, Carolina Herrera and others. However, in a remarkable coincidence (?) in which Giannini insists she was merely musing over NY skyscrapers of that time period, it also happens to be Gucci’s 90th birthday (bust out those calculators, ladies). Touches of the Orient — metallic embroidery, tasseled panels — gave Alice Temperley’s Grecian columns and minidresses an edge.

The presentation of this collection is pretty cool. I hate when designers don’t walk their collections down a runway, because the way the garment moves with the body has a lot to say about the design. But this is acceptable; love the shiny black mannequins. Regardless, the collection is awesome except for those weird leopard headdresses worn with some of the dresses. But overall, I would definitely buy more than a few pieces.
