The Blessed: Dakota Fanning

When did this happen? When did Dakota Fanning grow up? Here she is at The Secret Life of Bees premiere looking stylish and age appropriate. A surprise considering it is Hollywood. At the tender age of 14 she’s already been in a Marc Jacobs ad campaign. She is well on her way to becoming a fashion icon before she’s even legal.

The Blessed : The Anti-Gap Loves the Anti-Anna

Although the spring fashion issue of New York mag has been tarnished by the image of a Marylinesque Lindsay Lohan and an even more self-flagulating image of Andre 3000 (apparently the Outkast best known for dressing like an idiot thinks he can design clothes. see more after the jump), there are some glimors of hope in what is seasonally my favorite read. Namely the Anti-Anna article on French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld. With photos by Hedi Slimane, the article goes deep into the life of the editrix who’s been responsible for providing the European world with a good shot of take no prisoners, make no apologies style. Probably the best part is hearing of their distribution rate, 130,000 copies, which technically means that Fashion Indie gets more readers than French Vogue!!! Good to know, good to know.

Here are some snips from the interview from the woman that put Andre J on the map and mocks Wintour, a bit.

Roitfeld On Getting Older:
“I follow an advice of Tom Ford: When you get older, you have to get blonder. It is my surfer look.”

Roitfeld On Fellow Editors:

“Some editors, they have that, they know all the designer from the beginning of the nineteenth century. They know this is triple cashmere, this is simple cashmere. Maybe they went to fashion school. Me, I don’t. I just get a feeling about what is exciting. It is all just from feeling. So I don’t know”—she pulls her lips into a pout and gives one of those poufy little French exhales—“I think maybe I have a talent.”

Roitfeld On Personal Style:

“The American editors are very, how you say, slick,” Roitfeld says. “Very perfect. Hair is perfect, they have a manicure. They are very clean, they follow fashion. I don’t think they take many risks. They do the total look of Prada. Me, I wear a lot of Japanese piece mixed with a bit of classic Hermès and Prada. Even though jeans suit me, I never wear jeans.”

Roitfeld on Anna Wintour:

“Like Anna, she becomes so iconic that she becomes like a puppet. I don’t want to be like that, I don’t want to wear this uniform, I don’t want to be just an envelope.”

Roitfeld on Her Future:

“I never wanted to be what I am today, and I will not die in the position.”

Roitfeld On Fashion:

“Right now I think that fashion in the world becomes a bit boring. There is so much money, and I feel a bit when you go to shows they want to sell so many handbags, and for me, well, I do not like handbags. I do not wear handbags. It is not a nice look, to carry a handbag.”

Roitfeld On “The Scale”:

“So people always say that I weigh my staff, and it is totally wrong. All my girls are very skinny and very chic and very beautiful. And if they are not beautiful, well, then they are very charming. So people always say that I weigh them, but no. I don’t weigh my girls.”

But when you look behind the scenes into the people actually running the shop you quickly realize how “un-indie” it is.    Hi Rachel - It seems like you have an issue with me. You should give me a call at THINK PR. I guess if I am so uncool I guess I wouldn’t be organizing fashion shows, working the lounge backstage at the tents or organizing 3 events for Style 360. Also when you post something you should get your information straight since I guess I am not just Staten Island trash but also Brooklyn trash because it turns I lived most of my life in Brooklyn so I guess I am not just Staten Island trash but mainly Brooklyn trash. You should call me and let me know what you actually did during fashion week to know so much about fashion.

Style Bubble’s Susie Bubble

For nearly two years the fashion blogosphere has been delightfully entertained by the stylish musings a bubbly character from the UK. Susanna Lau (Susie Bubble as she’s called by her readers) is one fashionista who knows a good look and isn’t afraid to share it. Known for snapping photos of herself in over the top get ups from some of fashions most prolific designers, Susie has developed a cult like following all looking to her for her daily word on style.I caught up with little miss Bubble to ask her about her style, her inspirations, and which city has the hottest looks.

LG: How long does it take you to get dressed in the morning?SL: It depends on where I’m going but somewhere between 10 and 20 minutes. I don’t tend to try on different outfits as I have a fairly fixed idea of what I’m going for in my head as soon as I’ve woken up.LG: What do you consider a fashion faux pas?SL: I don’t really believe in the that phrase. Or at least I think it’s used in a very silly way. There is no such thing as a faux pas if you wear everything with conviction. So I guess the faux pas is wearing something without conviction?LG: Do you feel a person should dress age accordingly?SL: I don’t really believe in age-appropriate dressing as it really depends on the person. I’ve seen 50 year olds rock studded shoes mixed with Aztec printed dresses perfectly well. I don’t really guess people’s age that well either so if they’re wearing a non-age appropriate outfit, I probably wouldn’t know!

LG: What is one thing every girl/guy should have in their wardrobe?SL: Something that makes them feel invincible when they walk out of the door. For me, it’s my pink Miu Miu Pop platform shoes. It might be something entirely different for someone else.LG: Who do you consider fashion icons?SL: Would it be entirely wrong if I said I don’t have one? ‘Fashion Icon’ is a heavy title that I don’t use lightly so for me, I haven’t really found that person.LG: Who/what do you look to for inspiration?SL: The weather, my collection of historical biographies, countless stacks of magazines, Etsy, Ebay, countless number of blogs, fabric stores, films, the streets of London

LG: Who is your favorite designer?SL: I love so many designers work, it’s very hard to name one favorite but I guess the work that I’m constantly intrigued by is Olivier Theyskens.LG: Favorite fashion capital/ For what reason?SL: London because I know it the best and because I like seeing new and exciting talent emerge from the place which I know so well. Though Paris comes a very close second.

LG: Which has better fashion Hong Kong or London? How do they differ?SL: London has a much more diverse array of fashion both in street style and what is available in shopping. Thought he style aesthetic of style in Hong Kong is perceived as being more outrageous than it is in London, it’s quite limited and very one-dimensional for me.
