Putting on the Ritz With Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry

Gucci has multiple grounds for celebration. The iconic Italian house is celebrating its 90th birthday this year and just entered into a three year partnership with The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Museum. Last night, in the treehouse-like loft of Cipriani Downtown, Gucci presented its latest jewelry and timepiece collections, including the exclusive pieces designed especially for the GRAMMYs. While the best Bellinis in town were passed around the room, I got a chance to learn about all of the chic accessory collections on display and the stories behind them.

GRAMMY Collection - Designed to celebrate the three-year partnership between Gucci and The Recording Academy , these gorgeous watches and dog tags will be seen on countless recording artists. Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry is the first partner to help the GRAMMY Museum support the preservation of a recently discovered, historical Muzak archive including more than 20,000 never-released master recordings of American music dating back to 1934.

1921 Watch Collection - Designed by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini and housed under the Coupé collection, this iconic designs fuse classic and contemporary. The sophisticated square shape of the timepiece references the aesthetics of the 1920s while creating a modern look. With four designs for women and two for men, these classic pieces will last a style lifetime.

Bamboo Silver Collection – Gucci originally introduced Bamboo in the 1940s as an innovative solution to the lack of raw materials during World War II, and it has become one of the brand’s most distinctive icons. Today, the sterling silver collection features handcrafted bamboo wood ‘stones’ that adorn necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets. Up close, this fusion of contemporary and classic is truly spectacular.

Diamantissima Collection – This collection is at the heart of the Gucci archives, featuring an exclusive fabric design tied to the brand’s storied legacy – its distinctive crisscross pattern was the original signature print of the Florentine House. The elegant and subtle design has now been incorporated into an 18kt gold jewelry line featuring rings, earrings, bracelets and a modern interpretation of the lariat necklace. Simple with a luxurious twist, you will never want to go without these intricate pieces.

Horsebit Collection – Now a symbol of Gucci’s glamour, the Horsebit first gained prestige in 1953 when it adorned Gucci’s classic loafer, recalling
the horse-riding world of the aristocracy and high society in Florence. Unexpected combinations of colors, such as black onyx, black diamonds on black synthetic corundum secured by 18kt pink gold Horsebit links, offer glamorous reinterpretations of the Horsebit icon. Extremely glamorous and chic, this collection is definitely a favorite.

Origins Took Train to a Better Earth

Origins rocked Earth Month last night as Grammy winners Train headlined a lineup of whopping new talent: singer/songwriter Nikki Jean and English band Treetop Flyers. And they were all talking about the environment.Origins is greening the world with all natural, completely vegan beauty products. They’re planting trees, recycling tons and leading the industry by example. And they’re rocking out while they do it.

Price of admission: One Earth Pledge.

Goodie bag: A tree is planted in each attendee’s honor.

Before bringing the house down with a Drops of Jupiter encore finale, Train’s vocal virtuoso Patrick Monahan walked singing through the crowd with a mic and a security guard, giving hugs and spreading love to Marry Me. Before that, he brought the audience to a hush as he sang a cappella, sans microphone, turning Webster Hall into a true theater. With Soul Sister came the involuntary sing along, and Meet Virginia struck a deep chord toward the start. In betwixt all of this, he called up eight young ladies up to be the Trainettes, making them rockstars for a moment. Needless to say, their new single Save me, San Francisco drove the audience wild, like every one of their singles that get stuck in our heads indefinitely.

Opening for Train was the stunning Nikki Jean. Down in her core she is a songwriter with a nostalgic soul. Her new album took her around the country to write with some of the greatest living songwriters like Bob Dylan, Carole King, Burt Bacharach, Carly Simon and many others. What was gained is a young songstress now evolving with the wisdom of the legends of our time. There were notes of those greats in the atmosphere as she serenaded the audience on the ivory keys.

Right before Nikki Jean took the stage, the winners of the Origins Rocks Earth Month Green Artist Search Treetop Flyers haunted the audience with tickling guitar riffs and voices smooth as honey. Chaps from England have a way with music.

Before any of this went down, FashionIndie caught up with Train on the Green Carpet as they entered. We asked them, how do they take the green initiative upon themselves?

Pat Monahan: “We haven’t just woken up to hey, take care of the earth. And this isn’t, take care of the earth. The earth will win. It’s take care of the future children we want to have. Love your job and the other things will come. We love our job and it makes us want to be more helpful, and do events like this.“

Scott Underwood: “We’re reducing our footprint as a band. We used to use lots of bottles of water, and we’re trying to fully eliminate it. We’re trying to green our bus, but we’re not always there in there.”

Jimmy Stafford: “We did the John Mayer tour, and bands like us, come in requesting the venues to be green. We’re making those demands now, but it will become more common.

See who else was on the Green Carpet:

Kelli Tomashoff (L): Known from NYC Prep, she’s just released her single Gave Up On Love. She’s trying to be greener by using fewer water bottles, and her own shopping bags.

Dalal Bruchmann (R): This young musical phenom just dropped her new single Taste The Night and has written songs for wildlife charities to save the world.

Julissa Bermudez: Co-host on BET’s 106 & Park, she looked sizzling in Kimberly Ovitz.

Jane Lauder: Global President & General Manager of Origins has so many ways to be green, I don’t think it’s possible to name all of them here. She’s planting trees, recycling tons of used makeup containers, and continuing to ensure Origins is completely natural.

Jeff Miles: The night’s MC from 95.5 PLJ moved to NY from Dalla, TX, so for him going completely carless is a huge step in greening his life.

Givenchy Haute Couture Made Wacky Appearances at the Grammys

Swans, leopards, all of the animals were let loose at this year’s Grammys. Florence Welch and Nicki Minaj wore Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci Spring-Summer 2011 to the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, and they looked a little more than goofy. The proportions, the cut-outs, nothing is working for me as I observe their red carpet photos. But decide for yourself – what do you think of these over-the-top Givenchy outfits?

I Just Died: The 2nd Barbra Streisand Edition

Barbra Streisand will be performing at the Grammys this Sunday, finally giving me a reason to tune into that sham of an awards show.

Kris Kristofferson, Babs’ co-Star Is Born, will dig himself up from wherever he’s been hiding to introduce the legend, who is nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, Love Is the Answer.

Streisand joins Cee Lo Green, fellow Oscar-winner *choke* Gwyneth Paltrow, Mick Jagger, Justin Bieber and Arcade Fire on the list of performers for the 52nd Annual awards show.

Do you think Babs has the Bieber Fever? What if they do a duet to “Enough Is Enough” and Bieber sings the Donna Summer part? Meanwhile, this already sounds better than that Stevie Nicks-Taylor Swift debacle from last year.

The Grammys will ruin your evening on Sunday the 13th on CBS at 8 pm.

Well, Katy Perry‘s nominated for album of the year. I realized there was no god last year when Taylor Swift won that alleged honor. Now I’m convinced that not only is there no god, but that the Grammys are actually the devil. If you care, there’s a list of nominees after the jump.

If you’re at all like me (read: drunk), then you’re probably wondering “Where in gay hell is Robyn?” Well, luckily (or not depending on your view of winning a Grammy) our pop maven from Sweden is nominated for Best Dance Recording for “Dancing On My Own,” i.e. “The Best Song of 2010.”

The Grammys really don’t reflect what’s going on in music today therefore they don’t matter. Hell, I can’t remember the last time then was the Grammys did matter?

Giorgio Armani Red Carpet Retrospective

Last night, Randi and I attended the Giorgio Armani exhibition of exclusive dresses worn by celebrity actresses and musical artists at red carpet events. Every dress matched perfectly to the women who were wearing it: Lady Gaga with the futuristic gown for the Grammy, Anne Hathaway with the amazing blue gown for the 2009 Golden Globes Awards and the Black gown worn by Penelope Cruz at the 2010 Golden Globes Awards.

The exhibition will be there for three weeks at the Armani store on the 5th avenue.

ON THE LIST: The Grammy’s Style Studio

This week was The Grammys Style Studio in West Hollywood. I attended the Event with Jeremy Fall (editor-in-chief of Cliche Magazine) and got to see what the nominees were wearing to the grammys before they wore it. The evening was filled with top designers and 300$ champagne and clothes that i wanted to steal before they could be bought. I was eyeballing these belts from designer Melamed and was hoping she would just give them to me but failed. (two pictures above)

MIA’s new born son is already making his way into the fashion headlines thanks to his baby Henry Holland outfit, which is modeled after the one his mother wore to the Grammys! I hope I can do the same for my kid some day!

As you already know, M.I.A gave birth to healthy baby boy just hours after her performance at The Grammys on February 11th. Sadly enough, that baby boy still remains unnamed! So, what should should the singer name her little bundle of joy? A.W.O.L? S.O.S? Possibly Henry after Henry Holland, the designer of her infamous Grammy dress? What do you think!

Remember that little number by Henry Holland? Ever what it would look like on a pregnant woman who could explode at any second? Check out this video of M.I.A performing with (soon to be jail bait) T.I, (the ass of our generation) Kanye West, (the socially accepted, talentless junkie) Lil Wayne, and (the 95 year old “gangster”) Jay-Z at the Grammys last night. Sorry M.I.A but this may have been the worst opportunity to wear you House of Holland gear, or dance like you normally do.
